This Ring quest will have two hobbits. Maximum.

Then they all get to Rivendell and have somehow multiplied into four hobbits. And it's like. Okay. Maybe the others are right.

Maybe this is too many hobbits.

We have as many hobbits as we have not-hobbits.

But damn it, you just don't want to get rid of any of these hobbits. Screw it! Everyone can deal. Four hobbits. This is a four hobbits problem.

So away you go.

And things go bad in the worst possible way.

Over and over.

Honestly I should talk about the ace experience more. I don’t see enough. Like–obviously it’s dehumanizing to be repeatedly compared to robots or aliens but uh…sometimes it feels like that??

as a subtitler im incredibly biased as i say this but. shoutout to forms of fan labor other than fanart and fanfiction. fanart and fanfiction are awesome, don't take this as a dig at those, but i have a big appreciation for fans who provide closed captioning/subtitles/translations of works out of love n passion; fans who recap and explain aspects of the original work; fucking SPEEDRUNNERS, holy shit, shoutout to speedrunners and challenge runners in video game communities. lots of things that fall outside the scope of what comes to mind when people think of fanart/fan labor are integral parts of a healthy fan ecosystem

i guess basically i just feel a whole lot of love for people who work to find out and share everything they can about the thing they love and make the thing they love more accessible. people who take the time to add captions/descriptive audio to an auditory/visual work, record an audio version of a written work, adapt a work into a different language, explain the historical cultural context in which a work exists, rip and publish the files of a work, and uncover and share details that are easy to miss. everyone who, in their way, is saying "i love this thing so much. i want to know everything about it, and i want everyone to be able to participate."

I deeply love people who write in depth game guides. I like gaming but my brain can't stand not finding everything and finishing every detail (I am that person who found every korok in BOTW despite knowing the reward was... less than impressive), so the people who make guides and interactive maps are heroes to me.

Also huge love for the people in kpop fandoms who provide translations for everything from social media posts to old videos that didn't have official captions. They're the best too.

being anti ai is making me feel like in going insane. "you asked for thoughts about your characters backstory and i put it into chat gpt for ideas". studies have proven its making people dumber. "i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects. "youtube is impletmenting ai based age verification". my work has an entire graphics media department and has still put ai generated motivational posters up everywhere. ai playlists. ai facial verification. google ai microsoft ai meta ai snapchat ai. everyone treats it as a novelty. every treats it as a mandatory part of life. am i the only one who sees it? am i paranoid? am i going insane? jesus fucking christ. if i have to hear one more "well at least-" "but it does-" "but you can-" im about to lose it. i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to avoid the evil machine. have you no principles? no goddamn spine? am i the weird one here?

In the last month alone SEVERAL high profile examples of AI Psychosis have cropped up (r/AISoulmates, Kendra who fell in love with her psychologist, a 60 year old man who gave himself BROMIDE POISONING on ChatGPT’s advice). If the idea that AI is destroying society, communities, the earth, and your own MENTAL CAPABILITIES isn’t enough for you, then how about the idea that the reasons you use AI for could destroy your mental and physical health?
