This is beautiful. Is this the same lady that learned the iron fireworks technique too?
I'm posting this here because yes it's visually beautiful, but more importantly it shows the process of learning. It's not easy. It's scary. There's not a lot of people doing it.
It's beautiful because of the effort, not in spite of it. I feel like we don't value the effort of learning in social media posts, and this was incredibly done.
"Wheatfield". Ed Perkins. Oil, impasto.
I pull up my slide show. The first slide says “I do not want to financially support the Church of the Latter Day Saints in any way”. There are murmurs of agreement and approval from the room
Next slide. “Brandon Sanderson is a member of the LDS”. The muttering has changed tone
“It’s not a very big amount of money though.” Someone in the audience pipes up. “His cut is only a small fraction of the cost of the book, and then-“ my next slide shows an income breakdown, it is titled ‘a small fraction of $10,000,000 is still a big number’
I’m sweating. The following slides explain tithing rules. The vibe of the room has shifted. I start to doubt I’m getting out of here alive
you’d think that telling people to expand their music tastes would be pretty cut and dry but then you tell someone to listen to jazz and they call you eurocentric
you’d think that telling people to expand their music tastes would be pretty cut and dry but then you tell someone to listen to jazz and they act like you're trying to mind control them
In response to the replies on this post about finding jazz to listen to and maybe not enjoying classics like Miles Davis:
Maybe easier jazz to get into would be something closer to current mainstream music. with a singer? like Nina simone.
Sinnerman is a really cool album and the song Strange Fruit is very culturally important, I encourage you to find out what it's about. The song Feeling Good is a classic. Also the album Nina Simone and piano is my faaaaav but that is almost all just voice and piano so maybe a slightly less easy listen??
In a totally different direction, Thundercat's music is jazz influenced, probably could be argued to be modernday jazz. Either way he's a jazz bassist and singer. His first album Drunk is soooo cool, lots going on, sometimes serious, sometimes funny. I like the songs But In These Streets and Them Changes.

Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113°. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116°-118° (47°-48° C) for a week straight.

am I the only one who sees the fact that we've been given an apparently one-sided Krusie dynamic to wallow over for at least a year as like. a very intentional gift to Krusie shippers.
