Been rewatching Pirates SMP. Denholm brothers but from my flightless birds au where everything is pretty much the same except they also have small bird wings. These two are great blue herons :)
So I finally caught up on The Flight (as a Scott-only viewer, sorry I don’t have time for more streamers and I've been watching this stupid blue man basically since I started watching Minecraft YouTube), and with the recent events, I have a small angst idea...
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD***
so this was basically their entire dynamic on Bannerfall right
"Scott's a 3 time winner if you count Double Life" but we don't. Why would we count Double Life, the win Scott explicitly says is Pearl's? Why would you erase Scott's sacrifice to give him another win. You missed the whole fucking point. Why would you do that.
Oh I have thoughts on this! Generally, I agree but as a very headcanon-y person, I also disagree for various reasons/situations.
Firstly, I love the idea that Double Life by nature is meant to have two winners. It was intended to have a double victory, and Scott's choice to make Pearl the sole winner is just another reason why the Watchers hate him.
Also, I enjoy messing with that sacrifice because if we go with the whole "only victors remember" thing, then it puts the idea that Scott tried to make Pearl the sole winner so he wouldn't remember Double Life, or to ensure that she would remember everything. Either it was because he was seeking to avoid the pain himself if we go with a "winners only remember their games" route, or he didn't want to risk Pearl not remembering.
Maybe his victory did count, maybe he will always remember how he treated Pearl and only he knows the huge difference between him and Pearl in Last Life and Double Life. Maybe it didn't count, and he doesn't remember Double Life, so Pearl enters the winner's lounge thinking that the Scott she meets there is the Scott she knows, because Double Life was formed with a double victory near guaranteed, but it isn't. But he doesn't remember her from Double Life, he knows a completely different version of her and it was that version he'd chosen. There is another world where they were a happy team together, but it wasn't hers.
Also, I swear I saw a stream clip from after Past Life where cc!Martyn mentions that he isn't the first to get a double victory, that it was Scott back in Double Life. He might've been meaning Simple Life, because I'm pretty certain the CC's count those as viable victories while parts of the fandom doesn't. Although I'm not certain, because I cannot for the life of me find this clip again T-T
Oh, and if the "Scott said it was just Pearl's win" counts as changing the implied victory style of the game, then Grian's "no matter what happens, we can count this as a double victory" in 3rd Life also counts, which means Scar's been a winner since 3rd Life.
I'm not so much "missing" the point as I am taking it and throwing it aside for my purposes of inflicting angst upon myself and sometimes others.
I should clarify! I'm not saying that Pearl isn't the... agreed upon / confirmed sole winner of Double Life! She is. I just like to play around with implications and parallels and stuff. I'm looking at this mainly from a character/lore standpoint, taking out-of-lore statements to mess with things.
I wonder if the reason why tf!Pyro hates/hated/disliked tf!Scott is because Scott snitched. Pyro did something wrong, against the rules or something and as kids it never mattered. But they are 15 now, and (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong bc their backstory is still a little bit of a mystery to me) Scott is the adopted son of Tegrith's leader. He's supposed to, although controversially(?), inherit the leadership after his parent and maybe that pressure leads him to snitch on Pyro. It gets Pyro in trouble and sparks the rift, OR it finalizes it. Either way, a result (short or long term) of it is Pyro leaving Tegrith.
I wonder if the reason why Scott has been so quiet and complacent, even mildly participatory, about the thievery he witnessed is because of Pyro. I wonder if, in seeing how willing everyone around him in the Vulpes are with breaking the rules, and also because of Pyro's presence, he's staying quiet. He's scared of losing everyone, losing Pyro again when their relationship isn't quite as strained. He makes friends with the guards because he hopes he can kind of get them off his new friends back in the same way he'd get his parents and Pyro's off of his and Pyro's backs as kids. He lets them do stuff he doesn't agree with, even discouraged at first, because he doesn't want them to turn on him.
And I wonder if that's why Pyro's been so insistent that Scott isn't what he seems. Because to Pyro, Scott is just getting close to the rule breakers, learning their secrets and hiding places so he can go tell on them. Just like he did before, just like he did when they were 15. Maybe that's why Pyro lets him, maybe some part of him hopes that it won't happen and they can be the pair they used to be. Maybe Pyro doesn't even know why he lets Scott join them. Maybe Pyro is more careful to keep his shenanigans lighter when Scott's nearby, because he remembers when he trusted Scott with the heavier stuff and got betrayed.
I wonder.
fanservice is so good when I'm the fan being serviced
Bannerfall Harpy Express... this is so important to me
There’s clearly a lot of personal hurt on Scott’s part when it comes to Pyro and how abruptly he left Tegrith 8 years ago. Which is made more understandable when you observe the circumstances from Scott’s perspective. Going off what we know so far of course.
Like, you’re an orphan adopted into a very small and isolated community. You’ve known your probably only peer and friend since you both were toddlers. There isn’t a whole lot that goes on in your community, but at least you have each other to hang around with. Then one night when you’re both 15, your best friend leaves in the night (did he even say goodbye?). You are then left behind to deal with whatever emotional fallout that comes from this from the people who care about him, as well as yourself but you can’t think about that right now because people need you, and pick up the responsibilities within your community for an additional person as you transition from a teenager to an adult. Flash forward 8 years later and you see your childhood best friend again and he’s acting like being gone for 8 years isn’t that big a deal. You’re understandably upset at him.
I would like to point out how Scott never brings up his own feelings on the matter, at least not overtly and in the ways he centers others. It’s always about Pyro’s family and their home. Now don’t get this confused with Scott not caring about Pyro, because that’s definitely not the case. This simply communicates how Scott is very much burying how hurt he was (and still is) by Pyro leaving. We see this in the way Scott is glad Pyro is still around even after their tense interactions on the first day. We see it in how easily they fall back into being a good team once they unlock their magic. We see it in how even despite how clearly mad Scott is at Pyro, he still sticks up for Pyro’s character and tells Maddy he’s a good guy (very deep down according to his wording) despite how much Pyro has been rolling critical fails on charisma checks.
He has clearly missed him and they were very close once upon a time. But unfortunately hurt doesn’t fade away just because you’ve made a truce to not acknowledge the past at the moment. I do wonder what will happen in the future with these two
A consistent trait across Scott’s characters (that is very much shared with the CC himself) is that they love to farm crops/cook food to feed everyone and it’s the same thing for The Flight SMP
Scott got so excited seeing the farmers delight mod again only to get sad finding out that the dining hall was already packed with food anyways so there’s really no need for farming or cooking. Only to then once more get excited at how he can give people free ice cream whenever and wherever he wants! Love that for him actually
Once again Scott Smajor has made a character whom I will die for.
welcome back toxic majorscythe
and DRIFT
I know that when Pyro and Scott are vibing together it's bc they're ooc or breaking, but in my heart it's bc they miss each other and forget that they're supposed to be rivals
Just hatched and full of rage
First flight
Thought the moment where Scott flew up super high would look cinematic
The Watchers are actually pretty sweet creatures (if you were to ignore the mild overprotectiveness that usually leads to murder).
They are only present in the Life Series because Grian asked Them to watch over the code so he could participate without having to worry about admin stuff. He is basically the favourite child of the Watchers, he could in theory get anything he wanted from Them.
Martyn's lore is the equivalent of playing heroes v villains with your younger cousin, just with more drama and maturity. They actually find it quite amusing and keep a record of what has already 'happened' to keep up with Martyn. The Listeners are also friendly.
Pearl is the most likely to visit Them because she actually makes free time in her schedule for those things. More often than not they will sit around and have the Watcher equivalent of tea, and gossip about drama They've Seen recently, or the hermits.
Jimmy, surprisingly, is more like the eldest child in a way. He is the oldest so the Watchers tend to show him the more chaotic side of what They See and often let him help sort out the resulting mess left behind. They don't hate Scott, They just didn't trust him around Jimmy at first.
Scar getting stuck in Secret Life was a glitch with the server code. The Watchers split Themselves between helping Grian and Xisuma fix the glitch and comforting Scar. Eventually They realised Lizzie was just chilling in the Void and threw her at Joel, letting the glitch fix itself.
Voidwalkers and Watchers coexist in the Void, the two species generally get along great. Watchers even consider Voidwalkers to be kin due to the vast similarities between the two.
They therefore love hanging out around Xisuma and helping him. Xisuma is about the same age as some of the eldest Watchers so quite a few look up to him. He has even mentored new Watchers on occasion, particularly those who used to be players (Grian).
Most hermits are chill with the Watchers and often drag Them into being cameras when they need both hands for a project. Doc likes to spar with some of the older Watchers that visit the server, They are very calm about losing and don't really care about winning.
.
With Owain and Kitty starting a knight academy for Blue, obvious Red has to do the same. Can't let Blue get the upper hand. I think it would be really funy if Ser Bek started her own knight academy and the war completely turned into a rivalry between the two schools. No more actual battles but loads of unhinged pranks between the students and every year they have a tournament arc that everyone takes way too seriously.
Also, since Owain refuses all forms of formal leadership roles, bf!eloise would become the headmaster of the Blue school. bf!bek would obviously be the headmaster of Red. And all the other Bannerfall characters who stay in (or come back to) Bannerfall would one way or another end up as some kind of teacher at one of the schools.
