The turn of events that this conversation took surprised Briar. The last thing she expected to do when she arrived at his place today was telling him that she loved him. Briar was not one to admit to having feelings with someone. It never ended well for her, admitting when she cared about someone, let alone when she admitted to being in love with someone. The only hope she had was how big the smile on Finnâs face. It made her feel like she wasnât putting herself out there just to be hurt in the end. Then he spoke and Briar felt as though her entire body was tingling as they sunk into her. âIt would help a lot if it were true,â she finally spoke aloud and moved to kiss him fully on the lips. âSo weâre in love, it seems.â It was too hard to deny the teasing.
Finn honestly wasnât sure how the two had come from him being old and Briar bullying him, to the two of them finally saying that they loved each other for the first time but he was happy that their conversation had taken this turn. Heâd been feeling it for a while, that had been obvious to anyone who had been around them recently he assumed, but he hadnât really known when the best time to say it would be. Was it good for a man to say it first? Would she panic and run away if it was too soon? Honestly, he was glad that he would never know, and Finnâs lips capture hers in a passionate kiss as she leaned in towards him. âIâve made you all soft and sappy and in love. How does that make you feel, mhm?â
Pleasantly surprised by this rational decision-making coming from Finn, Tori smiled more easily. Given, he still seemed too happy to pack away more, but it would probably be fine. Although she definitely would lean toward getting Finnâs girlfriend involved rather than his brother. Well. Her brother too. This wasnât the time to delve into that. Hopefully she could get Finn up herself, and if anything, nudge the situation into getting the responsible brother out of the picture even if it meant Finn getting made fun of. That was a price that Tori was willing to take. No offense, Finn. âGreat. Glad weâre agreed that I wonât have to pretend I donât know who you are the next day when Briar rips you a new one. Now, do you want to chase that with some of that funky little drink most people call water, or should we head straight out?â She stood up herself, and stretched her arms.
âBriar likes you. Weâre friends, she likes you and trust you. Did I tell you that we told each other we loved each other? That was a huge step. Just after she called me old, you know!â He spoke, rambling off at Tori without even realising. âWait, what? Oh, water! Mhmmm...â He mused before then shaking his head. âNah, I donât fancy any. Lets just go, hopefully the fresh air makes me feel better, and not worse.â
âCome on man!â Finn replied to his cousin, turning around and pulling the best pose that he could, one that he believed made him look like Tom Cruise out of Top Gun. âYou cantât honestly tell me that these sunglasses look bad on me. Nah, I look amazing! Better on me than on you!â
ââŚRidiculous as it sounds, I think thatâs surprisingly realistic. Iâd love to see what happens if the owner of the kidnapped clothes recognized the bit of attire.â Shaking her head in disapproval, Tori watched Finn closely to make sure that he wasnât going to do anything too reckless. She was not sure what could go wrong and did not want to find out. âAs much as Iâd love to wax on about what our hopeless case over there found in his stolen pants pockets, why donât we make this the last drink?â She didnât think anything bad would happen if they kept going, but she wanted to keep the night fun and chill, and this seemed like peak chill Finn.
Finn started to laugh harder, and he ended up having to wipe tears away from his eyes at this image of a bloke sitting in the laundrette with a skirt on waiting for his trousers to dry - obviously heâd had a little too much to drink that night. When Tori suggested that they call it a night after this one, he nodded in agreement, picking up the glass which he had about half left in, and took a long swig. âThatâs a good idea. I donât want to wake up in mess and have to call Noel or Briar to come and get me.â He screwed up his nose at the idea. âNo, itâd be Noel. Heâs a good brother. Heâd get me out of spots like that. Briar would make fun of me.â
This was not going to go well Mira just knew it. She had talked to her other brother, Noel about talking to her oldest brother and he gave her a bit of a hint how Finn had felt after she left without much notice with Deacon. Mira sighed and waited outside the vet clinic waiting for him to get off work. She knew if she didnât do this now she was never going to do it. Mira heard his footsteps and took a deep breath. âHey big brother.â She said trying very hard to make a smile that didnât look forced. âWanna go get dinner?â She shoved her hands in her pockets and looked up at him.Â
Finn wasnât sure what his plan was when he left the vet surgery that night, as he knew that Briar was doing something with Atticus. Perhaps he would order a Chinese or something, and play some Fallout, or watch a movie - he wasnât sure - but what he hadnât been expecting was the small brunette standing outside looking a little uncomfortable, Slipping the keys back into his pocket, Finley looked over at the youngest Thompson, and raised his eyebrows slightly. âYou know, most people wouldnât want to go to dinner with someone who ran away with his kidnapper.â He began, before softening his expression and taking a couple of steps towards her. âBut youâre lucky Iâm such a nice big brother, whoâs missed you and wants to make sure youâre okay.â He let out a sigh and pulled her into a quick hug.Â
âOkay, Iâll drop it and wonât ask about it again. Youâre not that person anymore,â Briar spoke softly as she regarded him out of the corner of her eye. The last thing she wanted to do was make Finn feel like shit about it all and then getting irritated with her because she was curious. Briar had zero judgement towards him when it came to all of that because she didnât know the situation. Plus, if he had gone through with it they wouldnât be in this moment and Briar wasnât sure she wanted to know how her life would go without Finn in it. âI donât think your master plan was as solid as you thought it was going to be. You found me but you lost Noel and Wyatt for months.â While she loved having him around in purgatory, Briar had never wanted him to wind up in there with her. He had to go months without his family and they were so close she knew deep down it hurt a lot. Even though Finn was now thirty years old and their age difference may make people raise their eyebrow, Briar wouldnât change a single part of it. She would be twenty-five next month so it really wasnât that big of a difference. âAnd yet you adore it, so really who is in the wrong here?â Briar teased him as their lips met. When he picked up on her words, Briarâs entire body froze and she debated how quickly she could bolt from the room without him being able to catch her. Yet, as they pulled back and she caught the grin on Finnâs face, Briar realized that this might not have been a terrible thing to admit. âI think your hearing is going bad, Finley. Would I admit that I am a hundred percent positive that I am in love with you? Does that sound like me at all?â Briar expected no response in return because that wasnât what she was after by saying it. Hell, she didnât realize she was ready to say it until it was already leaving her lips.
âThey werenât lost without me though.â Finn shrugged, knowing that even though his siblings had missed him, it would have been much different if it was the other way around. He would have gone just as mental if one of them had been taken as he had been with Briar, they were much more rational and could keep their emotions at bay. âThey were fine. I just needed to make sure you were.â He murmured softly, his lips touching her forehead before he pressed a kiss to it softly. His lips had moved whilst they were talking to capture hers in a short kiss, and the broad smile that had taken over his entire face wouldnât be one that would be dropping any time soon. âMhm, no..â He replied softly, peppering a short line of kisses from her lip along her jaw, and gently down her neck. âWould it help if I admitted to you that Iâm madly in love with you too?âÂ
âI donât think we can just force her back,â Noel looked at Finn as if he had two heads. Yeah, Wyatt they could convince to come back when they needed her safe but Mira wasnât like that. He knew their little sister would do whatever she wanted and would reappear eventually. Thatâs why Noel wasnât worried about her. Mira was much more capable of taking care of herself than even himself or Finn. âI believe Artemis will call her back and she canât refuse her. I doubt Artemis cares about this whole war between Zeus and Nyx and wonât want one of her huntresses involved in it the way that Mira is.â He knew that Finn wanted to get her as far away from the Nyx kids and Noel would never blame him for that. Noel just didnât know how to go about getting her back without pushing her away further.
âWell we have to do something.â Finn huffed, standing up from his seat on the sofa so that he could pace around the living room in his brotherâs home - pacing was a good thing, it helped him think better, and helped him calm down. When Artemis was mentioned, he turned to Noel, nodding his head. âThatâs true, she will call her back at some point. Do you think if we... I donât know, made an offering of some sort, sheâd do it sooner?â He asked, Noel obviously being the one who could be more rational in this sort of situation.Â
Worried that Finn would notice that she was trying to stage a drink-based intervention, Tori winced when he swatted at the tabletop. Okay, apparently he had not noticed her slow efforts just yet. âOh no, thatâs rough for our buddy over there. I like that development. Laundry is a surprisingly dramatic twist. How do you go to the laundromat if you only have one pair of pants to wear?â
âPerhaps...â Finn trailed off and let his eyes gaze around the room for moment, trying to get some inspiration for his next stab into this mans metaphorical life when his eyes settled on a woman in the background with a short skirt on. âHe has to steal clothes from other peopleâs dryers, and wear them whilst heâs waiting for his own to dry. Heâs a clothing thief.â
Tori was a little less far gone than Finn, which meant that she had fewer inhibitions and a willingness to make up stupid stuff. âI think he works the night shift, but he hasnât slept in literal days, so heâs feeling the effects at the moment. He drinks to make himself feel something other than exhaustion, even if that something is confusion.â Pleased with this story, she decided it was maybe try to take Finnâs drink away from him. It wasnât a sisterly instinct- he just needed help.Â
"Oh!â Finn gasped, gently smacking the table in front of them as to not alert the man that they were talking about him, but loud enough to show his enthusiasm to the woman. âThatâs good! What if heâs here too, because his wife kicked him out so he canât go home after those long night shifts? Add some more depth into him,â He chuckled, leaning back into his chair. âWonât have his wife to wash his now sodden pants.â
âOh please, our mother would never,â she said with a roll of her eyes as she shooed him away. âRemember whoâs taller and makes you food!â She challenged back as she stuck her tongue out at him. âOh please, I was a gift to our family. Youâd have less of us keeping you in line, if it werenât for me,â she countered as she popped a cheese cube into her mouth. She didnât realized how much she had missed these banters until they met up a lot less and when Finn had inevitably gotten himself kidnapped. She remembered how it only took watching a few WWE episodes to whop his ass when he teased her as kids. Poor Noel had to be the one to pry them apart. âAwww, you missed me,â she teased. âSee, you canât live without me. You love me too much.â
âAh yes, a gift wrapped in the package of a pain in the ass.â Finn couldnât help but tease his sister sometimes - his relationship with her was one based on banter, and he wouldnât change it for the world. It was the way that their showed their love to one another, rarely any sappiness between them. âDonât let your head swell up too big, or youâll never be able to leave the apartment again.â He teased, moving his foot over from where it was sitting beside him on the sofa, to gently nudge her in the side. âItâs just no fun without you or Noel around - a bit boring really.â
Caelan was surprised to hear Finnâs voice calling out to him from behind. Spinning on his heels, he grinned at his friend as he waved a hello to him. He was always such a riot to be around and Caelan loved making new friends. It was the best part of so many people being the island now. The joke took a moment to sink into him and before long he was staring at Finn, blank faced before he broke out in a grin. âThat was the funniest joke Iâve ever heard. Though we donât have cows here, just sheep. Do you have any sheep jokes?â
âOh, wait, wait - I definitely do.â Finn replied, and he paused for a moment and waved his hand in the air as he tried to conjure it from the depths of his mind. âIâve definitely got one, I pr-- YE! Right! Who is a sheepâs favourite singer? Baaaaabara Streisand!â
âFinn, you were going to marry Kennedy. Itâs only natural that theyâre going to compare me to her. Iâm not angry about it. I expect it to happen. It doesnât bother me as much as it probably should. Iâm also a catch, just in a different way than she is.â Briar knew they both had pasts, hell she had been married once herself. Not that hers was out of love or even lasted longer than twelve hours before she filed for an annulment and then divorce when that didnât work. âI was curious and you donât really talk about what happened!â Briar exclaimed, giggling slightly at how ridiculous she was. âThough to be fair, you shouldnât have expected anything less than Remi and I googling her at two a.m. after the whole story came out across the island. At least Iâm honest about it and not pretending I didnât. Though itâs not because I donât trust you because I do. Youâre wrapped around my finger and thatâs not a secret to anyone Mr. Yells at the Police,â Briar teased him as she leaned up to kiss his cheek. âAnd what did you mean, Finley?â Her eyes still twinkling with enjoyment from this conversation. She knew it was weird not to be around each other after spending months stuck to the other like glue. She didnât want the only reason their relationship to progress be because of shared trauma. Briar cared about him more than that. âYouâre the new crypt keeper, darling. Can you believe you were six when I was born. Apparently Iâm into silver foxes now,â Briar teased him mercilessly as she grinned from ear to ear. Leaning up to kiss him fully on the lips, Briar mumbled against his lips, though the words she would deny the moment he brought them up. âItâs alright. I still love you, even if you are an old geezer now.â
âWell, yes..â Finn replied, although his words trailed off as he really didnât have anything to say to that. He was going to marry her, and it would make sense that his new girlfriend would worry, even if only a little bit about being compared to her. âWell why would I talk about it? I was a shit, I donât want to keep reminding myself of that.â He laughed dryly, dropping his head back against the couch for a moment, his eyes up at the ceiling as he tried to pus those memories out of his mind. He really didnât like thinking about them, although the soft kiss on his cheek brought him back into the room, and made him smile once more. âIt worked, didnât it? Shouting at the police? I found you.â He answered back in the same teasing tone, twisting the truth to fit his own ideas of what happened perfectly. Letting out a dramatic sigh as Briar bullied him playfully about his age. all he could do was roll his eyes. âYou are mean.â He spoke just before their lips met. However, what happened next caught him by surprised, and Finn pulled back from their kiss with a goofy grin on his face, his eyes gazing into hers. âBriar, did you just tell me you love me?â
This conversation was just going to get worse. Especially when he explained the entire previous evening to Finn. He could hear him yelling at him that he should have locked her in a room or something already. As Finn didnât seem to think he was telling the truth, Noel allowed Finn to laugh and get it out of his system, though the seriousness didnât fade from his face. âUh, sheâs definitely gone. I got home from being out with Bernie last night to her with a bunch of bags packed and her saying she was taking Deacon and getting out of town until the mayor calmed down. I knew I couldnât stop her so I told her to keep in touch with me. Sheâs an adult, we canât force her to stay in town. Plus, I doubt Artemis will be pleased with her abandoning her post. Hopefully thatâll sway her to return. I know, youâre going to be angry that I just let her leave but she would have either way. At this way weâll know sheâs alright.â
Finn felt the smile fall off of his face very quickly as he realised that his brother wasnât joking - Finn knew Noelâs facial expressions almost as well as he knew his own emotions, and he dropped his head into his hand. A loud groan escaped his lips, almost primal sounding. âItâs just one fucking thing after another, isnât it?â He muttered under his breath. Honestly, it felt like it was never-ending at the moment, with things hitting them left right and centre. Taking in a large breath, he raised his head so that he could look at Noel, shaking his head. âWell, we have to get her back somehow. She shouldnât be out there alone with him.â
Describe your character in a few words.
Funny, amazing, the best -- Finnâs words. I would say charming, friendly, loyal
What do you know about your character that they donât know yet?
Finn is 100% unaware that heâs a big doofus, and he thinks heâs an absolute catch.
What are your characterâs major flaws?
Generally just being a bit of an idiot, not really thinking before he acts, and being overly cautious about certain things.
What would your character give their life for?
Noel, Wyatt, Mira, Briar. Theyâre his absolute world, and Finn would die to protect any of them. @absentialucis @wyatt-thompson @obscuritas-est-luxÂ
What is your characterâs greatest asset?
His charming smile? His bluest of blue eyes? His very small ego? It would probably be how caring he is, when ti comes to any living thing, human or animal.Â
What would completely break your character?
Noel died and heâd never felt anything like that before, like the world was collapsing in on him. The loss of someone he is so close to... no pain will ever be as bad as that.Â
How does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?
Finn likes to portray that heâs a ladies man, that everyone wants him when really heâs just a bit of an idiot and everyone just sort of goes, âOh, itâs only FinnâÂ
What is your character afraid of?
Now donât laugh, but heâs very very afraid of jellyfish. Heâs a son of Poseidon who hates a sea creature, but absolutely no-one knows.Â
Where would your character fall on a politeness/rudeness scale?
Iâd say heâs definitely an 8 in the politeness range - heâs a nice guy after all!
If your character could choose a different identity, who would they pick?
Finn wants to be Batman. Who cares if heâs real or not, he wants to ride around in the Batmobile, wear cape and speak with a really deep voice.Â
In what or whom is your characterâs greatest faith in?
His family, of course. Finn has faith in them all 100%, that no matter what happens they will always have each others back.Â
What was the best thing in your characterâs life?
His friendship with his brother, was always a massive highlight of his childhood. He always had someone to rely on, before Wyatt came around of course that was his best friend.Â
What was the worst thing in your characterâs life?
His mother. Lilith is... a challenge. Letâs just leave it at that, shall we?
What is a favorite flavor or smell of your character?Â
The sea air, the smell of seaweed, it all makes Finn feel safe and at peace.Â
What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
Finn in uncontrollable laughter âNOEL BEING STUCK IN THE TREE... THE CAT... â
What is your characterâs secret wish?
To get away from Icaria, although itâs not a secret to some people. He wants to get those he cares about away from this evil place, and somewhere much safer where gods wonât appear and smite people during charity events.
What is your characterâs greatest achievement?
Becoming a veterinarian - people doubted him because of his party boy attitude, but he was able to pass his exams with flying colours.
What is your characterâs deepest regret?
Not being there when Noel died to stop it from happening, and not being there to stop Briar from being kidnapped. It makes him sick to know that these things happened, and he wasnât there to at least try and stop it from happening.Â
What is your characterâs deepest disappointment?
Being a Thompson by name. It means heâs affiliated to Lilith and Morgana, which heâd rather not.Â
What is your character reluctant to tell people?
That heâs terrified of jellyfish? That heâs also thirty years old and is getting past the point where he wants to be out at 3am dancing, but heâll still do it to keep up pretences.Â
What is your character hiding from themselves?
That heâs not 23 any more and has to slow down. He also wants to play it cool with Briar, but inside he really just wants to tell her that he loves her, and wants her to move in with him.
What makes this character angry? What calms them?
People fucking with his family. Donât do it. Just... donât. Noel is probably the only person on the island who can calm him down when heâs that heated, because he knows him so well.Â
List situations in which your character would not have control over themselves.
Anything happening to his family, his friends, his girlfriend or his practice. If someone challenged his intelligence as well because of his personality, that would rile him up.Â
How strong is your characterâs emotions? Controllable? Uncontrollable?
Theyâre quite uncontrollable at certain times, once he snaps, itâs hard for him to calm down. However, being a vet, he knows how to remain calm in stressful situations. Kinda. Well, no, actually, thatâs a lie. That only works with animals and surgery. Heâs a very unstable person.Â
What wakes your character up in the middle of the night?
Briar stealing the duvet - he cannot sleep when heâs cold, heâs a bit of a moaner about it to be fair. He hates being cold when heâs sleeping. Other than that, he sleeps like a log. Someone could break in and he wouldnât hear a thing.Â
Describe a recurring dream and/or nightmare.
The Jellyfish nightmare? Erm, no ignore that, he doesnât want anyone to know about that. Theres another one though. Heâs a puddle that keeps being stepped in by people. He has no idea what he means, but he doesnât like it.Â
Describe your characterâs family.
His mother is the worst mother alive, period. His siblings are the best in the world. His half siblings are great. His cousins are amazing. Heâs got a great, huge family in fact - just removed the previous generation, and theyâd all be better off.
Name your characterâs favourite person and why.
Noel. Sorry Briar, but it is. His brother is his other half, with only a short amount of time between them in age, Finn and Noel are a pair that will never be broken up. He canât remember a time that the two have ever seriously argued, not just over something petty, or in stressful situations. Heâs just his best friend.
How many friends does your character have?
Finn actually has quite a few friends! Heâs a personable person, likes to chat and is generally very open and friendly, so he makes friends quite easily.
How many friends does your character want?
As many as he can get! In Finnâs eyes, one can never have too many friends.
How would a friend or close relative describe your character?
Theyâd probably just sigh and be like... well, heâs just Finn, isnât he?
Who depends on your character? Why?
Do the animals in the surgery count? They aways rely on Finn to be in every day (with Noelleâs help of course because heâd be absolutely lost without her) to feed them and make them better. He likes to think that his siblings depend on him too, but he also knows that theyâre very independent people. @icarialex
Who does your character most want to please? Why?
Obviously Briar - heâs a little bit, teensy tiny bit older than her and wants her to think that heâs a cool guy, and not just a thirty-year old weirdo that has a younger girlfriend. There is a slight worry in his mind that sheâs going to find someone closer to her age and leave him, but he also knows that wonât happen. Probably.
How does your character feel about sex?
Loves it. Here for it, all day, every day. Well, most anyway. Heâs got to get up early to go to work.
How does your character feel about romantic relationships?
Finn loves what he has with Briar. Before realising that he was falling for her, he was all up for sleeping around for the rest of his life following his failed wedding attempt. But she changed things up, didnât she? Made his head do a 180, and heâs fallen hard.
If your character had to live in utter seclusion, what six items would they bring?
Wait, so he canât bring Briar or his family? Then heâs not going. He has to? Ugh, fine. A collection of Agatha Christie books, his hot water bottle (donât even think about judging), a razor (to keep his hair and beard perfect of course), a sleeping bag, his comfiest hoodie (heâll get it back off of Briar), and a guitar. May as well learn a new skill whilst heâs stuck alone.
What is your characterâs most noticeable trait and most noticeable physical feature?
His eyes are pretty blue, theyâre quite striking. And heâs always got a smile on his face, showing that heâs a very open person who is always ready for a chat.
How does your character feel about work?
Finn loves what he does. He gets to spend all day with animals, annoying the hell out of Noelle, and making them better again - heâs an animal hero, whatâs not to love!
Write one headcanon.
Finnâs three favourite movies are Titanic, Armageddon and Mary Poppins. Titanic is so emotional, whatâs not to love, Armageddon has Bruce Willis saving the world, and JULIE MOTHER FUCKING ANDREWS in Mary Poppins, itâs magical.Â
Write one additional thing about your character.
He really does want to get a dog, but heâs worried about getting one because heâs seen what happens when dogs get sick, and couldnât bear to love something and for it to get old in front of his eyes. It makes him sad.
