ghostling:
H O R R O R . P R O M P T S
āI just got back from the cemetery.ā
āI swear I just saw someone⦠or something looking in my window.ā
āI know I closed the damn closet door, but it keeps opening! Please tell me this is just some kind of joke you keep pulling.ā
āWhatās behind you in these picturesā¦?ā
āApparently like 20 years ago, some girl slaughtered her family in the basement.ā
āI think thereās something about this house that youāre not telling me.ā
āI keep hearing noises coming from the atticā¦ā
āI know what I saw, and whatever is in the basement⦠itās not human!ā
āI didnāt have time to see what it was! I just got the hell out of there!ā
āWhose grave were you bringing flowers toā¦?ā
āThe electricity guy said there was absolutely nothing wrong ā and yet, the lights always flicker on at 2am. Explain that to me?ā
āWhy donāt you spend the night in that house āaloneā, then try to convince me that you donāt believe in ghosts.ā
āY-you donāt understand, he didnāt have a face!ā
āI had a dream that I killed you.ā
āAh, yes⦠the room youāre staying in. Itās a paranormal hot spot, apparently.ā
āI keep hearing whispers at night⦠I-I canāt sleep!ā
āThere was something else in there with me, Iām not going back to that house.ā
āCome on, itās just an urban legendā¦ā
āAre you trying to tell me Iāve been sleeping in a dead girlās room!?ā
āI keep getting the feeling that someone is following me.ā
āDonāt panic⦠but I think thereās someone else in the house.ā
āI can still feel her/his ghost, and itās killing meā¦ā
āThereās something growling in the basement⦠could you, uh⦠check it out for me?ā
āCan you just⦠can you please check the closet?ā
āP-please⦠put the knife down.ā
āI bought this haunted ring on eBay!ā
āNo, no, no ā run!ā
āI didnāt forward one of those freaky chain letters and now I keep hearing the laughter of children coming from my hallways at night.ā
āThe dead are all around usā¦ā
āSheās dead! Sheās dead and yet I keep seeing her, everywhere!ā
āThereās something breathing under the bedā¦ā
āYou canāt tell me you donāt believe in ghosts after all weāve been through.ā
āI saw something I wasnāt supposed to see, something⦠that wasnāt supposed to be here.ā
āMaybe an exorcism is in orderā¦?ā
āI woke up, and it was j-just⦠staring at me.ā
āHe was there, then like a second later he literally vanished! I saw it happen!ā
āI like the ghosts here⦠they keep me company.ā
āYou canāt honestly tell me youāre in love with a dead girl.ā
āWasnāt someone murdered in this house? Why are we here?ā
āIf dying means being with him/her, kill me. Iād be happier that way.ā
āGhosts arenāt real. You need help.ā
āā¦what do you mean we didnāt talk last night? You came over, you were here.ā
āYou saw something you werenāt supposed to see. And now⦠now you know what has to be done.ā
āIām pretty sure my toasterās haunted.ā
āWhatās wrong with you? You look like youāve seen a ghost.ā
āDonāt! Donāt you dare open that door!ā
āI visited his/her grave for the first time todayā¦ā
āSomething terrible happened here, didnāt it?ā
āWh-why do you have a knifeā¦?ā
āYouāre all bloody, what happened!?ā
āYou know that book from The Evil Dead? Yeah, well⦠Iām pretty sure we found something pretty damn similar to it.ā
āYouāre bleedingā¦ā
āHow can you not see itā¦? Iām dead! Iāve been dead for years!ā
āIāve always wanted to see you choking on your own blood.ā
āIām sorry, Iām busy Friday with the⦠funeral and all.ā
āIāll never forget the sound of his screaming.ā
āFrom the looks of it, the afterlife is a lot more fun than this.ā
āLegend has it that you can still hear her crying for her lover in the dead of night.ā
āI want to be dead, too.ā
āWell donāt you look lovely, all covered in blood.ā
āWhoa ā wait! Please donāt go down there⦠letās just get out of here, please?ā
āYou played with a Ouija board!?ā
āMe and some friends played with a Ouija board the other night⦠and things have been a little strange since then.ā
āThereās so much negative energy in this house⦠do you know if someone died here?ā
āYouāre always hanging out in cemeteries⦠and yeah, itās kinda creepy.ā
āThey just donāt believe like they used toā¦ā
āI will haunt you until the end of time.ā
The blunt statement promoted a slight chuckle from the faerie. They were more fond of children than most other humansāthey tended to be more open-minded than adults.
āAh, no, not completely. But I am not entirely sure if I could be called a monster, eitherāit is complicated, trying to define myself in that false dichotomy.ā They reply, brushing damp hair back behind their ear.
ā???ā So this lady wasnāt a human, or a monster...?
Huh, well they hadnāt believed in monsters before they met their friends when they fell. So honestly, who was to say that there werenāt other kinds of creatures walking around? That still didnāt keep the childās curiosity at bay though, so they persisted with their question.
āWhat do you call yourself then? If youāre not a monster or human, miss Ember?ā
"A halfling, or more commonly a Faerie." They smile conspiratorially at the child. "However I am half human, so I find it easier to pass in modern society."
"I am a kaelpieāa sea creature, capable of changing their shape on a whim."
Ember noticed the child watching them, but didnāt think much of it. Many of the inhabitants of this neighborhood gave them odd glances, whether because they appeared too human or not human enough. They didnāt mind. When the little human signed to them, though, they stopped, looking at the other curiously. They knew enough sign language to pass, and the childās questions made them smile. āNo, I am not cold. And a towel would not do me much good - my hair is always at least damp, whether I have been near the water or not. Curse of my kind, I suppose.ā They answer with a shrug. āI am Ember, and what is your name little one?ā
ā???ā Wait, so her hair was always wet? How could that happen, and what did she mean by a curse of her kind-
Oh. Wait...
The look on the childās face went from stumped to slow realization as they stared at Ember a bit longer, before managing to respond. āIām Petals. Youāre...not human are you?ā
A bit blunt, but a bit of that was to be expected from a child. āItās okay if youāre not, most monsters I know just donāt look a lot like people! Except the skeleton brothers, but they donāt have skin and stuff.ā

What is the cutest headcanon you have for my muse?

Petals was a bit puzzled by this stranger at first. They looked like a human, but something felt off about them. Maybe it was the eyes and hair, but the small human had seen people dye their hair all kinds of colors, or wear freaky contacts over their eyes. What was it about this person that made them odd?
Well, the fact that a human was walking through the newly designated monster district of town didnāt make them anymore normal, that was for certain. Most people avoided this place as much as they could.
Either way, they looked very wet, like theyād just gone swimming. But the beach was a few miles away so it couldnāt be from the ocean. Maybe someone had a pool nearby.
āArenāt you cold?ā The child signed as the other passed them, looking curious still. āDo you need a towel?ā

āThe Good Neighbors, Courts of Day and Night, The Seelie and Unseelie?ā Ember seems surprised by his lack of reaction, glancing around quickly before leaning in close. āFaeries.ā They whisper, tightening their jaw as one hand wraps around the iron crowbar hanging from their belt. It burns, but they would rather have that small pain than be left unarmed against the Gentry.
* (Sans leans away slightly when Ember would lean in, giving them a bit of a look.) * (As they whisper, he, too, decides to take on the same volume.)
* faeriesā¦
* what, like fairies? * okay, yeah, i know a few of those. * why are we whispering?
"No, not fairies. Not your happy little beautiful women with bug's wings that fly around singing about friendship and magic. Faeries. The Fair Ones that will buy your soul for a box of pearls but when you open it the next day it is full of mud, the ones that will take your child and leave a stone in its place." They shiver, making a quick gesture over themself. "I am whispering because I do not want them to hear. Those who disrespect the Fair Folk are prime choices to be Taken."

"Ugh, I smell like a human." ~oceans-ember
āThen stay the fuck away. I donāt want your human stink on me, I just bathed.ā
"Your assumption is incorrect, I am not human. However necessity binds me to occasional interaction within society, and thus it is inevitable.
"Some days I find my sense of smell irritating, this is one of those days."
They're so chill, it's almost scary. But nope, this is just how Ember is, chill as ever.
oceans-ember:
āA halfling. Kaelpie, however I have only ever known my human mother.ā They answer promptly. āHalflings are not much loved in either the Courts of the Fair or the world of humans, it is simpler to claim one or the other.ā Often Ember would pick up interesting physical characteristics from those they talked to - being a shapeshifter allowed them to appear however they wanted - but they doubted their ability to take on anything from him. Even if there was something they were particularly fond of. āAh, my apologies. How may I call you? I prefer the name Pearl.ā Giving out oneās Name to anyone was a foolish decision, especially for one Involved in the world of the Others. Ember was careful with their True Name, as any fae or fae-touched human should be, however their pseudonym fit them better than their Name. Pale skin and silvery hair was not often associated with the last dying flames of a fire, after all.
* neat. * call me sans.
* (Sans isnāt retaining half of this information.)
* uh, lucky for you, iām not associated with the courts of the fair or humans. * i donāt know what the courts of the fair even is.
