i am sick of people mistreating their hermit crabs so this is a PSA about how you should be looking after your crabs and the standard you should hold yourself up to, anything less is animal abuse. hermit crabs are not first-time pets you can just stick in a bowl and laugh at for 2 weeks until it dies. hermit crabs are complicated and very sensitive creatures! they require a lot of work, maybe even more so than some reptiles and snakes. if you are thinking about getting a hermit crab please consider all of this information beforehand.

This is off the Island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean! And actually it’s not really a waterfall, it’s the underwater sediment/minerals and sand that is being swept off the continental shelf into the epipelagic waters  by some pretty strong currents, creating a sort of illusion that the water itself is rushing over into a waterfall. It’s a pretty cool illusion though! 

There aren’t ever such things as underwater waterfalls or rivers that are just made out of water since water is technically all the same density (besides fresh and saltwater) and the only thing that separates it would be the salinity and/or the thermocline!

But when water is actually mixed with something denser, such as hydrogen sulfide or perhaps salt water crashing with fresh water, it can actually form underwater rivers such as the one in Mexico!

We are going to lose one of the worlds most truly precious gems to a temporary and damaging “solution”. The Great Barrier Reef will no longer exist because of Abbotts desire for CSG export income. ‘Brinicle’ Ice Finger of Death - BBC

As sea water freezes to form surface ice, the remaining brine sinks, being much denser and colder than the surrounding water. As it descends, the surrounding water freezes upon contact, creating a ‘brinicle’, a frozen sheath of ice that grows downward towards the sea floor. When it touches the sea floor, it kills anything it touches, encasing them in a tomb of ice.
