"I'm planting Lily of the Valley/C'mon, Jesus Christ, forgive me" - All Sinners by Kevin Morby
I was walking with my dad the other day in my neighborhood and we noticed these Lily of the Valley plants under a spruce bush.
Days later I was driving home from acupuncture listening to Kevin Morby's new album, Little Wide Open, and the song, All Sinners, mentions Lilies of the Valley. I knew I had to go take some pictures of the ones we found and etch the lyric onto them somehow. Through a couple different tries I found the best result was pushing a sewing needle through the back. I'm very happy with the result.
I liked the pleading nature of the lyric and found the act of painstainkingly pushing a pin through a photo was much like the same struggle, thus finding the message and the mode to be the same.
It has been 10 years since a Kevin Morby song, Black Flowers from the album, Singing Saw, inspired me to do an art piece. Thank you, Kevin!
