A bit late but happy ace day y’all!
I think some of you people need to google amatonormativity… and like, think about it.
you can actually desire a traditional romantic relationship AND unpack amatonormative ideas within your mind and life. they are not mutually exclusive!
Sometimes a friend will talk about a person they find attractive, and it is sooo interesting to me because I feel nothing like that. Like I do find some people nice to look at, and i also am capable of telling which people are conventionally attractive, but recently a friend was talking about the way her crush looked at her that was sexy and im just like ????
It is interesting how difficult people find the concept of someone being aroace. Once a good friend of mine asked me "if you did like someone, would that person be a man or a woman?" and was confused when my reply was "fuck if i know"

The jury’s still out on how the show will treat the topic overall but damn if the “I don’t know what it’s like to not be me” line from the Murderbot show didn’t HIT from an aroace and autistic perspective.
Like yeah that’s exactly it. Constantly being put on the spot to explain ourselves in light of not feeling or being all these things people claim are universal. Even when you get a chance to talk about it, you’re pushed to see yourself from a perspective you don’t understand, you’ve been struggling your whole life to grasp. Never experiencing attraction of any kind, but having to present a thesis on the minute differences of every type of attraction at the drop of a hat.
keep seeing posts by asexuals and aromantics on my dash complaining about the centrality of romance in fandoms… have you considered not only do you have a different experience than others, but that others have a different experience than you? not sure why you being aromantic or asexual means people can’t enjoy romance in all it’s forms within their own lives lol. allo sexual people see content we don’t align with all the time in fandoms. reminiscent of pro-censorship in queer spaces and at pride because you’re sex repulsed and therefore pride must be sanitized to accommodate you, or christians telling others how to live their lives. this also speaks to the degradation of fandom etiquette in the last decade. people used to respect and even be friends with people that had different likes than them, now you liking something different than them is “wrong”. romance is a valid way of interacting with characters in a fandom, and so is viewing things through a platonic lens too
"have you considered not only do you have a different experience than others, but that others have a different experience than you?" Yes, this is the point of those posts. They are literally about how our experiences can be so very different from other people's. It can be pretty alienating feeling, surely worth of making a few vent post.
and like, don't worry. A few cranky aros/aces do not posses the power to like take sipping away from you. I'm pretty sure sex and romance are not going out of fashion like, ever.
Also, I don't know what kind of things you like, but the yaoi trenches i've been in for like the past 15 years have always been intense with ship wars, so i don't think people disinterested in shipping have monopoly in the ", now you liking something different than them is “wrong”" -thinking.
you know who else is ace?
YOU, THE READER, FROM REAL LIFE
YOU from Real Life are asexual!
Every week is aro week if you're not a fucking coward
i like someone ?
this isn’t the real you.help is out there
Aroace culture is having your own community exclude sex and romance repulsed people because it hurts the "positive" brand
.
“Asexuality and aromanticism are spectrums. Asexual and aromantic people can have sex and fall in love. They’re not robots.”
Well, it would probably be easier for me to take my robot vacuum cleaner out to dinner and have sex with it afterward than it would be with a sex-repulsed asexual person or a romance-repulsed aromantic person.
So, yes, I agree, they’re not robots.
Stop dehumanizing sex-repulsed asexual and romance-repulsed aromantic people. Yes, asexuality and aromanticism are spectrums but some people seem to forget that repulsed asexuals/aromantic people belong on those spectrums too.
They are valuable people, and even though they don’t do sex or romance, they have hearts. And those hearts can be broken by aphobic and arophobic comments like these.
It just makes me so frustrated when people go “not all aroace people are romance- and sex-repulsed! Therefore it is WRONG to say THIS aroace character is romance- and sex-repulsed even though that is how it is consistently and clearly written!” (“Therefore it is wrong to say any aroace is sex- or romance-repulsed! Don’t you know aros and aces can still have sex and romance?”)
it doesn’t come across as respect for sex-favorable aces and romance-favorable aros, it comes across as a fundamental inability to believe that anybody could actually not want sex or romance.
"aroaces can still date!" like okay?? then have you ever considered that allos can still want to be single as well but i guess ppl don't talk about that for some reason.
imagine if people actually took romantic consent seriously. wouldn't it be fucking awesome. i know they never will, but just. take a moment and imagine it with me
no more "just give them a chance, maybe you'll end up liking them!", no more "if you're going to reject someone, at least apologize to them!", no more shaming people for breaking up/divorcing, no more demonizing people for rejecting other peoples' romantic advances, no more shoving romance in romance repulsed peoples' face on purpose to provoke us, no more "i know we agreed to just be friends with benefits, but i thought you were going to fall in love with me eventually!", no more "i can fix them" when the only thing "wrong" with them is that they want to fuck without dating.
wouldn't it be nice?
people making my post that is explicitly about being aromantic be about asexuality instead, part one thousand
this cant keep happening to me i dont want to have to add this banner to all of my posts
I don’t understand why aroace people shouldn’t tag this post as aroace? It’s about aromatic stuff, which aromatic asexuals would be relating to (genuine question).
that banner was a pre-existing one i'd made specifically for aroallo posts! i didn't feel like making a whole new banner just to exclude the "aroace" part, but to be perfectly clear, i have no problem with people tagging this post as aroace!
