She chuckled watching him with the kitten, it was so precious and he was so good at it. She sometimes wished her abilities were more like his. She would have loved to talk to animals like he did. Gwen listened as he spoke and nodded, “Yeah of course, Teddy. Like I’d call anyone else.” She chuckled and scratched between the kitten’s ears. “Oh! We should go to the pet store and get her a collar and stuff!” She needed to pick up a new scratching post for watson anyway so might as well and any excuse to spend time with Teddy was well worth it. 

“Thank you again for doing this Teddy.” She kissed his cheek and smiled, “So! Come on let get you out of work and go adventuring. Let me know if I owe you money too. I may be your friend but ya’ll got bills to pay too.”

 “Baby, I’m not going to charge you for the appointments. I will have to charge you to get her chipped, and obviously, if you’re gonna get her spayed that too. I recommend that you do.” He scratched the top of Pheobe’s head before moving back to the computer to continue typing on the file to make sure everything was documented for future reference. “The worming and flea medication is about... I wanna say over the counter it works out at something like 63$ and it’s up to you to remember to come in and get it, but if you sign up for the pet care plan we’ll just send everything you need to your house when you need it, and that works out at 48$ a month, there’s a 10-percent discount on prescribed medication should she ever need it, and she gets a toy with every check-up. We would normally discount every second 6-month check with the plan too, but I wouldn’t ask you to pay for check-ups. Which reminds me...” He pushed himself back on his chair to wheel across to the other side of the room, inside one of the cupboards was a box of cat toys and a jar labeled ‘kitten’. He took a treat out of the jar and put the box in his lap to wheel himself back.    “So, dis one you can has now on account of you being so good at the vets today,” he said putting the treat down on the table for her, “and you can choose a toy.” inside was a selection of balls, with and without feathers and different textures, mice shaped toys and fish-shaped toys. "We can get you more toys at the store, but this one is from the vet for being well behaved today, thank you."

He blushed feeling Teddy’s hand on his face, he actually got to see the hand, the hand he’d felt and held so many times. Theo refocused on the phone and got to see the man he loved and his best friend. “I mean, wow, I knew she was pretty after all the guys that hit on her but seeing her she really is. You two are way too pretty.” He chuckled and kissed Teddy’s cheek, “I could see how you two could look like siblings.” 

He chuckled at the image of Richard, “Oh man, that hair on you dad!” He’d felt the Hedwig wigs before, “The wigs blonde right?” Gods he felt stupid asking but he knew it didn’t bother Teddy. “it’s great to see the woman you become and you’re dad looks great in a wig.”

   “You are literally the sweetest man.” Teddy mused, leaning against Theo a little and brushing his nose over his cheek before pressing a kiss to his jaw. This was all so surreal, but he tried not to think too much into it and went back to looking for photographs, “I’ll tell him.” he chuckled, before picking out another photograph of their two dogs, Sinatra sat open-mouthed looking like he might’ve been smiling and Toto sat in front of him between the larger dogs paws, holding his favorite red bear in his mouth.     “There you go, there are our sons.”

  She followed him threw the clinic and nodded, “Yeah, she was out side a crime scene.” Gwen scrubbed between Pheobe’s ears and she purred and nuzzling into her as she started walking back and forth again. “You okay with that, Phe?” The kitten mewed, “I’m gonna assume that is kitten for yes?” Gwen couldn’t help but melt every time the little creature made a noise or a simple movement. “She’s just so cute, Teddy.” She set her on the exam table and started letting her explore doing her best to keep her away from the edge. “Come on little one. stay on the table for momma please.”

    “She’s alright,” Teddy argued gently. He never liked to rush an animal’s first trip to the vet, it could be a weird experience and he understood that. This was why he sometimes ran behind, but those that visited him knew the time he took was for a good reason and they never minded the wait. After a moment she made her way to his side of the table and he took the opportunity to begin his examination, “This is my favorite bit.” he smiled, stroking all down her back with both his hands first then going in with soft massaging motion.  “Coat feels good, skin feels good. She feels a little underweight but I’ll check her on the scales in a minute. Can you open your mouth for me please?” He opened his own mouth to demonstrate. Part of his power was animal control, creatures just did as he asked and this was no exception. It came in very handy in situations like this. “Shiny white toofy-pegs, everything looks good.. Oh, you’re doing so well Pheobe. You’re a good girl. So I need to check your eyes next so I’ll shine a really bright light in there just for a few seconds so it might be a little bit uncomfortable for a minute,” he let her go so he could move to his drawer and take out a small pocket torch, “everything will be okay, I promise.” He turned the torch on and put it between his teeth so he could use his hands to manipulate her eyelids. There was a small struggle, but Teddy made a noise that seemed to comfort her into staying still for him. He was happy with the condition of them, he went on to check her ears, and then listened to her heart and lungs through his stethoscope and again everything seemed okay. He fleaed her and demonstrated to Gwen how to give her a worming tablet - though naturally, he offered for her to call if she needed help because no cat liked to be force-fed medication. The worst part was the vaccination, Teddy felt awful for doing it but it had to be done.  “So, because she’s just marginally underweight right now I don’t want to chip her. So, she needs to come back in two to four weeks for her second shots, so we’ll see what she’s like then. I’m not too worried about her, but give her wet food, leave out dry food in between meals and try her with kitten milk. If anything happens that you think isn’t right, please call me... Do you have any questions?”

He considered the options and nodded, “I never say no to naan or bhaji.” Theo could wait to kiss him, he’d been waiting years to be with someone he loved this much he could wait forever for him. “Hmmm, That’s a hard choice baby. I do love giant pitchers of booze and drag shows are always fun. Plus the blind guy explaining why he’s covered in glitter at work the next day is always a kick.” His fingers found the nape of Teddy’s neck and he started turning his curls between his fingers. “If we go to The Boston we’re gonna spend most of our time judging and fighting off people wanting to dance with us. Actually we’ll have that problem period. Lets choose after dinner.”

“What kind of naan?” He used his phone to write in the notes exactly what they were having because he just knew as soon as the server came he wouldn’t be able to find anything on the menu. Teddy listened to Theo as he spoke, continuing with his note, barely reacting when his fingers moved through his curls because he had just grown so accustomed to Theo’s touch that now it was only worth mentioning if he wasn’t touching him. But he did suddenly feel very domesticated, he realized quickly that this was going to be his life forever now. Those would be the only fingers to ever touch him so intimately, this would be the only man he’d probably ever split a dish with, one day they’d look over this same menu together and ‘just have the usual’... and that excited him.  “I love you.” was his response to ‘let's choose after dinner’. Which made little sense in context but perfect sense to Teddy’s line of thinking.

“I’ll call them later. Their in India again anyway so it’s not like I can see them in person right now.” He chuckled and was nearly bouncing he was still grasping the situation. He was finally going to know what his loved ones looked like. “Thanks baby.” He kissed his cheek and smiled, birds were so beautiful he hadn’t expected them to be so pretty. “Awe look at them they’re so pretty.” He stared at his own face, “Man it’s weird seeing my own face…” he went back to looking at Teddy as still soaking in his everything. He wanted to make sure that no matter what that he would always remember how he looked. He turned back to the photo realizing something, “So when you sing when I sing when people talk and what not remember the things I see. It’s colors. I’ve been seeing color all this time and had no idea.”

Teddy smiled at him again, briefly lifting his hand up to touch Theo’s cheek with so much tenderness, making sure that one touch somehow carried every ounce of love he had for him. “It’s my favorite face.”  He continued to search his camera roll, “Things will make a little more sense to you now maybe.” he muttered, picking up another photograph of himself and Gwen, “This is what Gwen looks like... She’s beautiful, huh? She’s so pretty.”  His heart swelled with affection for his friend. Gwen was one of the most important people in his life, she was more of a sister than a friend. She was family.  Teddy was back to scrolling and he found a photograph of his father, Richard as Hedwig, and he let out an amused noise, “So this is my Papa as Hedwig. I should probably show you what he looks like out of drag, but you’ve met my Hedwig - or Tedwig as we call her - enough times. I was... I was 10 when my father gave birth to this person, I feel like... in some ways... she is my mother.”

He knew calling his parents would end up being a long conversation so he had to think of something else. “Oh! Okay do you have pictures of my family? And Gwen? That way no long phone calls trying to explain everything and wasting time.” He had no idea how long he had if it was permanent or if it was something that was limited.” 

He kissed him again, “And then yes I wanna see everything.” He thought again and gasped, “Omg what do our dogs look like?” He was so excited he could hardly stand still. “Also hate to sound like a child but you’re gonna have to explain colors. I mean which ones are which.”

   “No, hey listen, you can facetime them if you want.” He said, pulling out his phone anyway because he did have photos of both their families on his phone. His home and lock screen was a photo of himself and Theo, but he immediately unlocked it and went into his camera roll, laughing at his excitement “I will explain the colors to you.” he agreed, keeping close to him as he pulled up photos. The first one on there was one of Theo taken a couple of days ago when his birds had used him as a resting perch, “So the one in your lap is Boo Radley, he’s a magpie, he’s black - which is the darker color,” he pointed it out because he realized Theo probably wouldn’t have any concept of light and dark, “and white. Then on the couch next to you that’s Chester, black-headed Caique, this is green... this is yellow. And as always on your shoulder is Frogs. He’s got an orange head; technically apricot-headed or white-bellied Caique. He likes you a lot.”

He debated for a moment and then shook his head, “I like when we split, that and it keeps me from completely stuffing my face and regretting it later.” He chuckled and took another sip, “Chickpea mush sounds brilliant. Plus gotta leave room for more booze and dessert.” He kissed his cheek again and rested his chin on Teddy’s shoulder. “I really want to kiss your neck and listen to you moan…Which club were you thinking?”

“I don’t mind.” There was something a bit romantic about splitting a dish, Teddy was a sharer by nature, anything he had he always offered to others. “Do you want anything else with it? Naan bread or samosas? Bhajis?” He’d already got his heart set on poppadoms, he’d been thinking about mango chutney for most of the day if he was going to be honest. Theo’s comment about kissing his neck made the hairs on the back of it stand on end, he couldn’t help but lean into him slightly, “You can. After dinner. I promise. I was thinking Urban Tiger because they do an offer on cocktail pitchers after 10pm, they’re like 14$ for two. Or we could go to The Boston, it's drag night.”

He wiped a tear from his face and kissed him again, “Oh like I care about bear slobber.” That smile, it made his heart stop for a moment and then beat twice as fast. “I don’t know what’s happening but lets just enjoy it.” He pulled Teddy into a hug and spun him around, “Are you done at the zoo I know I kinda was freaking out and you probably have a lot more to do.” 

He wanted to spended time with him and he need to call his parents and his sister he wanted to see them. He wanted to see Gwen, he wanted to know what all the colors were and he wanted to see his and Teddy’s home. He wanted to see everything. “I need to video chat mom and dad, but I just wanna keep looking at you for a moment. How did I get so lucky?” 

Teddy clung onto him and laughed as he spun him around. He didn’t know if he should laugh or cry. He was elated of course but he felt so emotional, for Theo and for himself.  “I -- I can be. I mean if you want I can -- I can show around. Y-- your call, of course, we can do... anything. Anything you like. Anything you want, just name it.” Teddy didn’t want to think about the fact this might not be permanent, but there was so much potential for what they could’ve done.

He shrugged, “I dont either. You’ve met mum.” Theo chuckled and started drawing the notes being played on the radio it was so easy for him but he could never figure out why. “Oh that is fun to say. Paneer Dopiaza…sounds like the scientific classification for an species of deer. Or a pokemon.” He kissed Teddy’s cheek, “You sound cute when you say it.” He smirked and moved back a little, “Lets get that and we can share and be dorks and you’ll make me love you even more if that’s possible.”

Teddy set the menu down and pulled out his phone so he could Google the ingredient, muttering “Dopiaza.” under his breath. He chuckled as Theo kissed his cheek, dancing a little to a song in his head as he waited for his 4G to kick in and load the results. “I’m really glad we did this. Oh here -- Oh I can’t have it it’s cheese.” He screwed up his face in disgust and shook his head as he read the words ‘curdled milk’. “Do you want that or do you wanna share my chickpea mush?”

He saw him and then it registered, he should have guessed by the pace that it was Teddy but the second his voice hit Theo’s ears he smiled on the verge of tears. He had never thought he’d get to see him, ever. He couldn’t speak he just looked at him for the moment, “I have no idea.” 

One hand moved from Teddy’s hand and he touched his face, he was getting to see the face he’d mapped with his hands and lips. “I can see you, I can actually see you.” He kissed him and smiled, “I don’t care whats happening, I can’t believe I can see you.” He could sit there and just stare at him he didn’t need to see anything else this was what he wanted to see the man he loved. his thumb brushed across Teddy’s cheek as his fingertips it looked just like it felt in his hands. “You’re so beautiful.”

Teddy had dreamed about hearing those words from those lips for so long. He was never bothered by Theo’s blindness, but there was always a small part of him that wished Theo could see him.  “Are you--” he was cut off by a kiss, and he never got to finish that sentence. Theo was looking at him; actually looking at him. Not by coincidence either, on purpose, Teddy knew he could see him. The final statement made him sob with joy, his smile practically split his face in two. “I can’t believe this is happening, I don’t understand. And... I just realized I have bear slobber all over my face, I’m so sorry.”
