The Flight of Dragons (1982) dir. by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin, Jr.
Caves are weirder and more varied than you think
So I might have been excited when this came across my dash because I’ve been in one of these multiple times and some others are on my “must visit” list.
For anyone interested:
1. Marble Caves (Cuevas de Mármol) in Chile - open to kayakers
2. Fairy Caves (Gua Pari) in Borneo - open to tourists who can handle going down and up a lot of stairs
3. Cave of the Crystals (Cuevas de los Cristales) in Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico - not open to the public
4. Raufarhólshellir in Iceland - open to the public, has adventure tours (which is why it’s on my list)
5. Lechuguilla Cave in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico, USA - You can only visit this if you are a very, very lucky researcher or park employee
6. Coconino Lava River Dave in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA - open to general public
7. Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico, USA - this part of the park is open to the public, and is accessible to most people! This park has a well paved trail through the cave with handrails and an elevator. This park has a special place in my heart.
8. Nettlebed Cave in Kahurangi National Park in New Zealand - I don’t believe this one is open to the general public, but I think you can hire a tour guide?
9. Moaning Caverns in Vallecito, California, USA - tourist destination with a vertigo-inducing spiral staircase
10. I think this is Namakdan Salt Cave in Qeshm, Iran - open to tourists and tentatively on my list. Another picture of Namakdan Salt Cave:
More caves:
Gyokusendo Cave in Okinawa, Japan:
Fern Cave in Lava Beds National Park, California, USA:
Ice Cave also in Lava Beds National Park, California, USA:
Waitomo Glow Worm Caves in New Zealand (you can float on a tube through this cave!!)
Important to note that cave of the crystals is "not open to the public" because it's normally filled with boiling water that the giant crystals grew in. It was temporarily drained a little to study it but the air was still hot enough to kill you if you stayed in there for too long :)
So I see you all are exhausted by streaming services effectively recreating cable. I see you’re all tired of ads. Pirating is a great alternative, but I have another fantastic option for you all!
I live in Seattle. And in Seattle we have America’s largest physical media store, Scarecrow Video. They are a non-profit that has pretty much any film or tv show you can imagine. Like, everything. So much so that one of our local cinemas does a program with them called “Unstreamable” where they show a film from Scarecrow’a archive that you can’t access anywhere online. It’s a bit overwhelming to go to their store, which is two levels of every program under the sun.
ANYWAY, I bring this up because they recently started a Rent-by-Mail program. It’s pretty similar to what Netflix used to do. You can rent up to six titles (barring their super rare stuff and pornos) and they will ship it to you, then you return it in the included pre-paid envelope.
Why does this rock? Sure, you still have to pay money, BUT you are supporting a non-profit that is dedicated to preserving media instead of some corporation looking for endless profit. They can also expand your palette with their vast selection. And if you have a favorite piece of media, you never have to worry about it disappearing! All their stuff is there in perpetuity.
So this is all to say, now that Scarecrow has expanded their reach beyond the Greater Seattle Area, I implore you to check them out. If you don’t want to rent right now, the could always use donations to keep them afloat.
You can check out their catalogue HERE!

oh this is a life saver
So these are both “Aw Fuck I’m outta real food” meals BUT ALSO: if you’re learning how to cook, these are great “baby steps” meals to learn how to cook basics into something enjoyable without “wasting” anything expensive. Though I maintain that even cooking screw-ups are valuable in terms of lessons learned.
Also they’re great for when you get absorbed in something and you realize your blood sugar is dropping and you need to make something Quick.
Making basic storecupboard or fridge ingredients less basic and more nutritious.
This is wonderful.

Hey, here's the full set of the brand new Disco Elysium pics!
Prints are available, and maybe these work well in poster format (which inprnt started doing a while ago)?
I'm sad I didn't get to draw any cars, would be nice to do 1 more, but I need to move on... Also, there has been a promo on all summer at inprnt that might end soon, so these are at 35% off right now!

Goddammnit I'm writing a hamtaro ttrpg fuck all yall
It's a caltrop core game because fuck it. Roll xd4 related to a stat, keep the highest roll.
4 - You Succeed and something good happens
3 - You Succeed
2 - You Beans it
1 - You REALLY Beans it and something bad happens
Each stat has an empty list below it for HamChats. The categories are Chat, Sense, and Do. The HamChat you begin with are Hamha (Hello!) Hif-Hif (Smell), and Dig-Dig (Burrow), respectively. You choose where to place the numbers 3, 2, and 1 into your stats.
When you meet another animal, the GM will give them at least 1 Hamchat you don't know to sprinkle into dialogue. The first person to correctly guess the meaning gets to add it to the category they feel is the most accurate, expanding their repertoire.
Go forth and do hamster things
