Her dad wasn’t perfect, but he was there. At least he tried to be for the most part. That was more than she could saw for her half-brother’s mom, who’d skipped out after Toby was born. “Riley’s actually managed to get me to do some homework lately. Eighth grade’s no joke,” she admitted, blowing out a breath. “I was thinking about taking Toby to see a movie this weekend if that’s okay. You could come too if you want.”

“Ha, wait until you get to high school. It’s even lamer.” His smile falters a little at the thought of ruining what little time his children spent together. “I think I’ll pass, I have some things I have to do for work, but maybe next time?” Being pushed aside when he was younger stuck with him, especially now when Shawn’s the one he’s being pushed aside for, again.

Maya didn’t spend too much time with her dad, but every once in a while, they’d set up some time to be together. It being Eric’s birthday was definitely a good reason to spend some time with him. Walking into his apartment, she smiled over at him. “Happy Birthday Dad.”

“Ah, there’s my daughter.” He smiles, throwing the rag on the counter he was previously cleaning Toby’s mess with. “Thanks.” Walking over to Maya, he wraps his arms around her in a tight hug. “Where have you been lately? We missed you.”
