Band Bio - Behind the Hyde
On the 11th of May I played at The Latest Music Bar in Behind the Hyde and in the Elton Sam Band. My main performance is in Behind the Hyde, this band consisted of Amber and Elisha on Vocals, Me on Lead guitar, Connor on Rhythm guitar, Matt as our session bassist and Angus as the Drummer. We originally chose a few songs to do covers at various gigs as we were given the oportunity to play at the Ammex football stadium in Brighton, the gigs at the Ammex got booked by different bands in Brighton making us loose the oportunity.
After a gig we did on the 23rd of March (Latest Music Bar) we decided to re-write our setlists and rethink what songs we would play. Our original set list for college consisted of:
~ Psycho by Puddle of Mudd.
~ Thnks Fr Th Mmrs by Fall Out Boy.
~ Zombie by The Cranberries (which me, Connor and Amber played in our first college band on the 6th of Nov, 2014, this was our best song to perform so we decided to play it at each gig).
~ The Pretender by the Foo Fighters.
We also had two songs out of choice that we would play as Encores or replacements:
~ Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
~ Supermassive Black Hole by Muse.
So when we came back into the summer term in April we were told of the gig on the 11th of May, that’s when Amber and Elisha said they only wanted to do originals for that gig, the rest agreed and me, Connor and Angus jammed until we came up with a song which later became Child on MD, our first composition. Two Weeks later we came up with another song that we scrapped as nobody but me and Connor, later that week I came up with the Riff for the next song, working with Connor and Angus again, we ended up with our second composition called It Couldn’t be You. With both songs, we composed the backing track and Amber and Elisha wrote the lyrics afterwards; these two tracks became Child on MD and It Couldn’t Be You.
We chose to do our set list on the eleventh like so:
~ It couldn’t be you
~ Psycho
~ Child on MD
~ Zombie
and the Pretender as a encore.
We chose to do these songs in this order as we wanted to perform tracks that we knew well as well as the new tracks that we composed in the previous weeks. We structured the set list following the tuning of the songs, as the first two were in Drop D tuning and the last three were in E Standard. The choice of what songs we played on the night was simple, personally I wanted to play a different song rather than Psycho but everybody else preferred to play it as they believed it was our best track in that tuning. We chose Zombie as our last track as it has been our best track since the first gig. The decision to play the Pretender was floating around in rehearsals but it was more of a, “Let’s just do it” on the night situation.
The venue that we played at on the 6th of Nov, 23rd of March and the 11th was The Latest Music Bar in Brighton, we chose this venue as a default venue, incase we couldn’t get anywhere else. I know that Shana and Sasha took charge of managing the venues for the college and they told me they tried to get a few different ones including the Haunt and Komedia.
Evaluation and Reflection
- This should be ongoing (at least weekly)
- Evaluate each aspect of your work, I.E. Your rehearsals and/or productions.
How I think I did.
Personally I don’t believe I did well in the last gig on the 11th. I felt that the band needed more practice to tighten up the tracks we were playing, these tracks consisted of two tracks we composed (Child on MD and It Couldn’t Be You) and two covers (Psycho by Puddle of Mudd and Zombie by The Cranberries); we also played an extra track The Pretender by the Foo Fighters.
