translation: PHILIPPINE EAGLE ATTACKED BY OVER 30 MONKEYS

A Philippine Eagle was rescued after being attacked by more than 30 monkeys in Bukidnon.

According to the indigenous Lumad who rescued the eagle, he was simply picking fruit when he heard a loud commotion from the trees, which is where he saw the eagle being attacked. The eagle is now under the care of the DENR for medical attention and rehabilitation.

translator's note from me: this got attention because the Philippine Eagle is also known as the Monkey-Eating Eagle.

and so the reactions are kinda hilarious. it started with people cyberbullying the poor bird, calling her an embarrassment

but then people came to her defense because 1v30 is not a fair fight

update on this diva, now named Sawaga-Dalwangan!! she's recovering well :D

“Sawaga-Dalwangan is now alert and responsive. She is eating on her own, her wounds are clean, and the maggot infestation is gone. She has completed her antibiotics and other medicines, and there are no signs of an active infection,” said PEF in a statement. (link)

it's with a broken heart that i bring sad news. Sawaga-Dalwangan has unfortunately passed away.

not only did she fight 30 monkeys, but later articles described that she was doing that while already injured with metal pellets embedded in her wings, most likely inflicted by hunters or poachers.

may her struggle and passing inspire more attention towards Philippine Eagle conservation. consider supporting the Philippine Eagle Foundation.

i hope we can all remember her bravery and her fighting spirit. rest your wings now, Sawaga-Dalwangan.
