I don’t ever want to hate on book styles that I don’t like because not liking something is not the same as poorly written. And fanfic can be problematic for sure.

BUT they are correct here. These books are barely edited for grammar and spelling. The plot, characterization, and writing styles are often juvenile at best. Most are copy paste of other stories or clearly ripped off fanfiction stories with ‘original’ characters with the personality of wallpaper inserted. Even in books written with ‘spiciness’ as the main point often have poorly written sex scenes that questions their knowledge of sex in general. Barely concealed r*pe and ab*se is written as love stories with the reasoning behind it to increase the sexiness of the book rather than to darken the story or tell a complex story.

Most of these books are only best sellers because they are popular. Booktok reviews are impossible to trust because they’ll hype trash just for views and paid promotion. And tbh I think being able to self publish on Amazon to booktok pipeline is too frequent.
