Inktober Day 14 - Simon the Digger (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)

Wow, I can’t believe TTGL is 10 years old already :S Well, today I drew adult Simon, using fineliners (because the brush pen was misbehaving again).

I was considering doing the stark shadows and harsh lines style that TTGL uses for the eyecatches, but today was busy so didn’t have time to.

I have heard video game reviewers mention they can write off game purchases on their taxes because it is a business expense. Since studying different games is so important to game developers in crafting newer and better experiences, do you guys write off your purchases for games as well?

I certainly do. Generally, I claim:

games of all types (board games, card games, video games, pen and paper RPG, etc.) 

consoles and accessories (including controllers, monitors/televisions, etc.)

conventions/conferences (E3, GDC, etc.)

tournament fees 

relevant reference materials (books, memberships, etc.) 

tools (Photoshop, Visual Studio, Unity, Unreal, etc.) 

computers/parts for any machine I develop on

electronics I develop on (mobile handsets, tablets)

As long as it is provably relevant to making me a better or more capable developer in some way, it counts. Of course, this just means I don’t have to pay income tax on the money I spent on these things. It does not stop other taxes (e.g. sales tax) on these things, and that money is still gone. It’s just a slight discount every year around tax time, provided that my total deductions are greater than the standard deduction of $5000 per year that everybody gets.

So my last job kinda dicked me after I left. I worked overtime but they only paid me for about half the work I know I did. I calculated the hours, but while I’m on the other side of the country I can’t physically prove they’ve done me wrong (I’ve tried). That paycheck was supposed to pay for my plane ticket to World Wide Words 2017, the biggest Japanese internet rap festival in the world (also probably the only one, lol).

My friends are waiting for me there- they’re expecting me, and I want to go to them. But I can’t without the money. Even working overtime at my NEW job won’t cover it, and I’ve got less than a month. I need some serious help.

Everyone, please… If you could do me a solid and give this a good ol’ signal boost or shoot me an email, it’d mean the world. I’ve got a deal up there too for if you wanna buy art for a friend. Thanks in advance, everyone.
