'Friday the 13th' Photoshoot. "Who said Jason is dead.." Model: Ricky Sercombe This is my image for my final evaluation, "The Square Project". To obtain this type of effect within photography, I had to set my camera up for a long exposure. To obtain the long exposure for this specific shoot, I had to set my camera up with my ISO on 100, an aperture of F/8 and my shutter speed on 15 seconds. This was my first time ever experimenting with a long exposure and to be honest, I didn't have much hope in myself that it would come out well. I had to research online different images with long exposures in them and how they were created and produced. This took me 2/3 days to get my head round and be able to work out the camera which I had also had already 1 day of experience with. Multiple images were shot with a long exposure but just didn't have the right scene I wanted to create. There were a few minor setbacks for this shoot. One being that it started to rain upon the LED lighting, which reduced a lot of the time I was expecting to shoot for. The second setback was travelling to location it reduced a lot of time that the model and assistant had for me on this Photoshoot. The third setback was my camera settings not being correct for over an hour.. I had continuously tried to shoot and correct my settings each shot but couldn't get around why my images were coming out completely pitch black. I had altered the ISO, aperture and shutter speed multiple times. Finally I began to realise a correct setting for my aperture and shutter speed and noticed that overall my ISO was the major issue and it had to be brought up. Setting up the shoot on location was very risky.. Using expensive equipment on uneven ground, being in complete darkness with just a small torch to get things started, wasn't the best asset. I thank my assistant for being there for me for that shoot, as I do not know how I would of got everything done within the 2 hours I had. The inspiration I had upon this shoot was from other 'Tumblr' users that I follow on my blog. I had seen some amazing woodland images over the period of Halloween and the month of October. There were people uploading creepy and random images of eerie locations, models in makeup and models in Halloween costumes based on horror movie characters. I found my horror movie character very suitable for the location I chose. The horror movie character famously known as 'Jason Voorhees' is the main character in the film franchise 'Friday the 13th'. It was out of randomness this shoot came to light because the model had bought this costume for Halloween. The location was shown to me a few weeks back by my assistant/friend on the way to visit a family friend. It was great to know that the model and I had a great insight of the movie franchise and how Jason Voorhees preys upon his targets, stalks and brings them down. This made the model feel as he was casted for an upcoming film and allowed him to behave as the slasher himself. I look forward to using long exposure a lot more and creating more horror photo shoots. Thank you for reading.
