ROBB STARK*.
“The children are fine,” Robb whispered to Alicent, a hand lightly pressed to the low of her back in a move that he hoped she found comforting. “Everyone is on their best behavior right now, remember? They know how important the election is to us.” Because being an us at this moment was integral to Robb’s stature in the election. He needed to look stable and kind and family-oriented; his own family, after all, was none too excited about his current path. Alicent’s, however, gave him a second shot at remaining the perfect picture of the all-American family man. “The officers are there for our protection, not to take something from us. You know that.” @ofhightower
Robb Stark was her ticket. Her father had chosen Viserys for his riches and power, and Alicent had bore him the children she loved with all her heart (one parent needed to give a damn and it certainly hadn’t been Viserys). It was something that always took her aback, to think about how much she loved them, and she could never imagine selling them the same way her father sold her. MARRIED. Same word. When Viserys passed it left her children without a father, but more importantly without protection. Robb Stark provided that perfectly. He was no father, but he was a name all the same, the protection fit. Robb gained his own benefits from their relationship too, it was a mutually beneficial illusion. There was discomfort in his touch, unfamiliarity, but Alicent was nothing if not the perfect actress, and knowing Robb was pretending as well certainly helped. It was a lot easier having her partner in on the lie instead of in ignorance. “You overestimate my children. Knowing they should be on their best behavior doesn’t mean they will be.” She grimaced towards the officers. “We don’t know that.” For all she knew they felt loyalty to Viserys, perhaps on the Targaryen pay roll, and felt that she was betraying him with Robb now on her arm. Then again it was hard to betray someone you never felt LOYAL to. Viserys was not Rhaenyra after all. “You musn’t be so trusting Robb.” For a many in politics he had an awful amount of faith in people.

it was the sight of the police car right outside the tiny coffee shop and how it sent her heart REELING. if one of her children were being arrested ( again ) she would have known through a call, or witnessing it firsthand. none of them were minors any longer, and that man ( her husband, a part of her called him though the rest could not ) wasn’t around to make the instances vanish. “my instincts have thoroughly betrayed me.” alicent remarked with a grimace. “thanks to my children i cannot see an officer or their vehicle without concern.” concern for her children’s welfare, their life choices, among many things.
