"suddenly," it had become something of a habit since she began journaling again. speaking out loud her thoughts, it helped given the mess that dawn was used to circling her like oxygen itself. sometimes the only way she could hear her own thoughts at all was if she spoke them out loud. "no one cared where i was." a deep breath in, and then one out. those memories struck her painfully no matter how far in the past it was. the feeling stuck. "i miss that." missed? the tense made her pause with her pen, pausing in lament. then, dawn resumed. "someone caring where i am all the time..." it wasn't the same as it used to be, but that feeling had never been forgotten. she inhaled deeply, forgetting just how deeply emotions had hit her even with a simple journal entry documenting past feelings. for the first time she realized she was in company of another. they'd been quiet, and she'd been focused. "sorry i was just..." words escaped her as did explanation, and any lie felt kinda pathetic. "... writing?" dawn landed on, lamely.

Fuck, fuck, fuck. Not much ruffled her feathers (fur, in her case?) but seeing Dawn did just that. She hadn't meant to stumble across her, in fact the moment she snagged Dawn's wallet (sans her ID) and left her sleeping and sound was the last time she ever thought she'd see her. Deep in her bones, she knew this wasn't going to be a joyous reunion. Hayley left and with her, all of Dawn's money. Hayley always left, it was easier to be the one leaving than to get left. She's had enough of that in her lifetime. She had to look after herself, even if that meant hurting people in one way or another. A mindset she truly hated, she didn't want this kind of life for herself, but fate had another plan for her and here she was. She has had to roll with the punches since she was young, too young. Hayley kept a good five feet between the two, already expecting the situation to turn hostile. "Fun." The word fell between them, "You're a long way from California."
