“being in the water isn’t relevant. i’m also not in the water anymore.” she pointed out quickly, brows raised. “besides, i’m a lot more deadly than i look.”

“you’re literally being so hostile right now. you rise out of the water like some lazerus character and then unleash unwarranted anger on me. no helping hands in this world are not dead, not as long as i am around. so unless ya got a change clothes and a place to sleep, you have the choice to follow me or continue to take your chances. your choice. but sweetie, either way i’m leavin’. i tried.”

(&& eliza):

studying the younger girl for a second, eliza couldn’t hide the puzzled expression on her face. admittedly, she didn’t really know anything about gardening, so she wasn’t sure why the woman had tied a rock to a flower. “what’s the rock for?” she asked, genuinely curious.

the small brunette looked up and smiled. “oh, umm, it’s just until i find something sturdy to hold it up. the rock is gonna help it stand for now, so the stem doesn’t break but a rock will get in the way of growth if left, i need some branches and some twine.”

she shrugged, “i still think i’d be in a better position than you.” she pointed out.

“says the girl in the water with a not functioning gun. i’m a lot faster then i look.”

(&& maggie):

“it’s a good idea.” maggie smiled, nodding her head. “i used to collect rocks, then my sister and i would paint ‘em. we’d put them in the garden after that.” maggie reminisced, a smile on her face. “they remind you of your daddy. you should keep ‘em. it’s nice to have something so we don’t forget those we’ve lost.”

“some people i know used to do that, but the’d take them different places, leave ‘em for others find. i like that.” she sighed, “i lost him a long time ago. long before this. but i got rocks now. the world is so dark it feels childish to hold on to such small things but then i think and remember that those small things make it a little better, make it feel like it’s gonna be okay. so rocks.”

(&& jesus):

the older of the two sighed and nodded, “talk to me, ari. what’s wrong.”

“i just feel like something bad is going to happen. like something. i mean i know the saviors are out there but . i don’t know, i haven’t been able to sleep.”

(&& beth):

she nodded, “do you know ‘im?” she asked quietly, “you don’t know where i could find ‘im, do ya?” she hadn’t seen him since her death, after all.

“I know of him but i’m not sure where he is currently, a woman i know talks about him sometimes.” ari pointed to the crossbow. “those are hard to use you must be talented.”

(&& laney):

laney raised a gun. it was wet and not much good to her, but it was better than having nothing. “i–i… i don’t wanna fight.”

“you’re gun is wet it’s not gonna work and if it did you’d bring every walker within five miles towards us, is that what you want?”

(&& maggie):

“whatcha doin’, ari?” maggie asked as she approached the brunette, offering her a small smile as she sat down next to her. “got a lot of rocks. i used to collect little smooth stones m’self when i was younger.”

looking up at the woman ari offered a small smile. “i like rocks. my dad had a collection. i remember. when they took me away i grabbed a few, makes me feel grounded. it’s nice to have something to connect to when all we have is our sanity left.” she joked, only slightly though.

laney had hidden in the little river to get away from a group of survivors she could only describe as ‘the worst of humanity’. she’d been lucky to keep away from them, lucky they’d assumed she’d been killed. but now, exhausted and hurt, laney climbed back onto the riverbed, coughing out water as she did.

ariadne stopped in her tracks at the sight of the woman coming out of the water. it was like myth, aphrodite born of sea foam walking on land. she took a step back and clutched her back. brown hair fell in her face and she looked around. “what the hell.”

(&& beth):

“no, wait, i can do this.” beth told the other person with a little grin, excited to be of use again. “daryl taught me.”

ari looked at her strings tied to the trees to lead her way to the hilltop. she stopped as she came across a young woman with a crossbow. “daryl?”

(&& jesus):

“oh, right, i see. so things are doing well, then?”

a sigh. “i’m actually not sure how to answer that question.”

(&& jesus):

“what are you up to…?” jesus asked slowly, walking up to see his foster sister sitting quietly by herself. he raised his brows. “something with a rock…?”

“the bud is too heavy for the stock to hold. i’m tying the rock to help balance it. technically i need a twig but this will do until i can find the right one.” she said quietly.

Ari picked up the strange rock, let the weight fill her hand. she bounced it around before putting it away to add to her collection. it was strange but in world where people had nothing, ari wanted something to hold on. a rock collection was how she coped. it grounded her in the strange reality that was her life for the last few years, that would be her life until she died. as she started to walk back ari noticed a flower stalk that was falling. she eyed it and then pulled the rock out of her back. trying string around the stock and the rock to balance it the dark haired girl sighed.
