The whitelighter laughs at his best friendâs confusion and shakes his head. âMm, pretty sure thatâs my fault, actually,â he mutters, voice muffled by her hair and their embrace. âBest way to find your brother is if weâre all in the same place, right?â He pulls back, just a little, to look at her. âThatâs the last time your life is put in danger for me, or my brother.â How the Whitelighter could have made any other choice than to appeal on behalf of his best friend and her cause.. It had been worth the extended sentence. Lexi didnât need to know every single detail. Sheâd done enough for him over the past century for him to spend a few years in pain if it meant she got to come back. To be reunited with the people she loved.Â
âItâs time we find YOURS.â Stefan told her, raising a hand to gently touch her cheek before he wrapped his arm around her again and brought her back into his arms.Â
Stefan wanted to answer with something positive. He wanted to tell Lexi that he was absolutely fine. What sheâd seen had just been him freaking out over something small. But he couldnât bring himself to do it. Sheâd find out from him either way. âNot really,â he answered honestly. âYou?â
She almost wanted to shake her head, sure that she shouldâve expected no less given that he all too often liked to be the martyr..then again they both did; she was willing to be on her own for the rest of eternity knowing that he was living a higher purpose and now heâd brought her back, she wasnât sure whether to slap him or hug him.So she went with the latter. âI was fine you know, you didnât have to go playing the hero.â she added more as a thank you than anything else before she pulled back at his next words, taking her a second to process what was going on.
âYou brought him back too....-â her words werenât much of a question but a realization, something she found herself emotional over even more so when she wondered what it had cost him because she didnât imagine that the Elders were just happy to bring two people back from the dead, no questions asked. She let out a sigh, hugging her best friend a little tighter.
She was glad heâd been honest, she wouldâve gotten the truth out either way and hell it wouldâve made her no less worried if heâd said he was fine. Given her own state, she was sure sheâd be doing enough worrying for the both of them. âYeah, not really.â She replied, before giving another small sigh. âBut I am glad to be back and iâm glad youâre back too...-youâre never getting rid of me ever again.â
