While Percy and Luke are supposed to be direct character foils and parallel each other, if Percy was in Luke's place —not having a mom and being on the run with Thalia and Annabeth as a kid and then the Thalia incident happening—, I still don't know think he would've joined Kronos when he got older. At least, not like that.

The reason Luke did so was because of his fatal flaw. Excessive wrath. He was so blinded by his rage and so furious at the gods that as long as he could get back at them, he didn't care if he hurt anyone—including someone he loved, like Annabeth. And he didn't snap out of that until Annabeth reminded him of his broken promise, and managed to control that anger.

Percy's fatal flaw is excessive loyalty. He could make a horrible decision that could doom the world if a loved one was in danger, and in fact he could've likely been the one turned into a tree instead of Thalia if he were Luke's place because there is a chance he would not have been capable of leaving her. And Kronos wouldn't have gotten him to join him so easily because in order to join him, Percy would have to betray Annabeth, like Luke did. And while Percy would 100% resent the gods, the whole thing about him is that he is too loyal, so he would've never been able to do that. That is the key difference between them.

I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything

When I worked at Target, it was during the winter, and this guy comes up to my register with a neutral-colored beanie with a fake fur pompom on top. All embarrassed and cringing, asking me if it was a woman’s hat and if it would be weird for him to get it.

I was like, “It’s just a hat. If you like it and you wear it, it’s not a woman’s hat, it’s just your hat. You don’t need to follow what the tag says if you don’t want to.” And it was like I gave him some kind of awe-inspiring wisdom he’d never considered, and he left with that hat on his head.

More cishets need to hear and internalize this message because so many of them are avoiding things that would make them happy just because of it having a label on it for whatever gender.

while i hope the AI boom dies out i also hope we start acknowledging data center water overconsumption as it's own unique issue because like. it's not AI itself that harms the environment it's the hardware hosting it, right? same reason nfts and cryptocurrency were also bad for the environment. the root problem isn't going away so long as we allow big companies to continue hitching their wagon to the next big tech trend. i worry if they don't get stronger regulation we'll just be repeating the same issue whenever the next toy comes along.
