it must just depend on the virus and how your body reacts to it. i do not have a medical degree but i know that there's some viruses that you would typically only get once because after the first time your body knows how to fight it off.

"Typically" being the operative word in that sentence. I have the chicken pox for the second time, even though it's rare it happens.
