His eyebrows raised in an arch as he watched the other male fumble his words before falling off the poorly constructed fence. This man was a disaster and it made Cristo all the more interested.
Talaya wasn’t viscous until she needed to be so Cristo didn’t worry when the big cat decided to investigate the poor boy. “Nice to meet you, Fane. Her neck to the back of her ears are her soft spots. If you want to experience her claws then go for the tail, if not then stay clear.”
He took Fane’s hand and helped him up, taking in the other’s body with his gaze. “You look well fed for a bard, I take it business has been good?” He asks. The Kraken rarely has bards onboard, most complain it’s too rowdy and chaotic to perform. Rojas had given up on them, but now that Cristo was captain he had hoped to change that. “How much do you usually start your bargain?”
Fane pet her tentatively, expecting that she'd be like every other cat that he'd touched that either showed him the sharpness of their claws and ran off the moment his fingers met fur. But she let him touch without showing any kind of aggression. "Huh," he mused, scratching behind her ears. "You have no idea how little animals tend to like me."
"It's not bad," Fane said with a shrug. "The cook at the tavern likes me and feeds me more than she has any right to do for free." He frowned, thinking about what he remembered of The Kraken and what kind of fee he could start with. "For a larger ship, I usually start at five-pound per day, plus room and board. If you intend to sail with me, I am willing to swing a sword to defend the ship, but then I expect a share of the loot like any of your crew would expect on top of my original fee."
