Raelle & Scylla + script descriptions in 1x01: “Say the Words”

Can we talk about this for a moment?

This scene after Abigail’s nightmare where Raelle finds herself touching her palm. She was thinking about Scylla and the mark she gave her so that she would be always able to say hi to her.  Probably her train of thought went like “Scylla, where are you? Please.. tell me you’re ok..”

Then this happened

Her face in disbelief like “Oh crap.. am I hallucinating?”

Then something clicked in her mind “She’s alive!” that little smile right at the end. She had hope, maybe she would be able to see her, despite what Scylla’s teacher told her. She believes she can see her girlfriend again.

And right at the end at the episode this happened. Scylla locked and tied to a chair, waiting for another interrogation.

She tried to send a message to Raelle, she wanted to contact her.

All of her focus to this message. She was hoping she would be able to let Raelle know she was fine, she was alive, she didn’t leave her. She had hope too, she had hope to see her again, to be able to hug her and tell her she was sorry and that everything would have been just fine.

Hopefully soon they’ll meet again.

Ah the question as old as time. Here are the facts (I also turned this into a points scoring game halfway through and will not apologize for my rankings): 

Raelle Top: 

This entire scene goes to Raelle, but specifically here Raelle grabs Scylla’s hair and tugs her head slightly back to tease her and let her know who’s really in control. +3

Self-explanatory. +2

She wastes no time pinning Scylla’s arms down AGAIN and rolling her over. +1

Raelle grabs Scylla and initiates the kiss. +3 for not being freaked out that her girlfriend just ate the mysterious spores released from a mushroom grown out of a dead bird. 

The intentional height difference as Raelle comforts Scylla by holding her and telling her it’ll be okay. Enough said. +2

Controversial, yes, but the fact that Scylla easily lets Spree!Raelle top her within SECONDS of entering the room is all the evidence I need. +1.5

Raelle grabs Scylla’s hand by the wrist and pulls it down because she needs to go protect her. Important to note that while Scylla’s hand is on Raelle’s shoulder, Raelle’s hand is on Scylla’s waist which is where the “dominant” partner is supposed to place their hand. +3

Raelle stands protectively in front of Scylla. +2

Raelle pulls Scylla in for a passionate, purposeful kiss. +3

Scylla initiates first kiss, that takes confidence. +3

Scylla rolls a non-protesting Raelle over to lay on top of her and convince her to stay a little longer. +2

Scylla pulls Raelle back in for a second kiss before leaving. +1

This picture is worth every single piece of evidence on the Raelle side. I mean, the positions. The eye contact. This OOZES top energy. +9,999

So it’s up to you to make up your minds. I’m gonna go with switches (sWITCHES), but Raelle definitely leaning top while Scylla leans bottom.

Do you think that the bird charm/sexy weird gift made by Raelle herself? There's no she purchased it through online. 😂And, I want to hear your opinion about the meaning of the gift. Some says that the symbol is for protection.

Raelle, being the useless lesbian that she is, read the entire Codices Byron gave her after Beltane. At first she laughed it off and dismissed it, then picked it up again and had to admit that making your gf a gift that captured her sexy weirdness was actually A+ advice. So Raelle went out, found a dead bird, and made Scylla the “Corsage” as a reminder of the beautiful moment they shared in the graveyard when Scylla was teaching her about death (also a dead thing for her Special Necro is just on point adorably cute). I’m pretty sure that was also the moment Raelle started to fall in love and because she was still too nervous to say “I love you” in episode 5, this was Raelle’s way of physically conveying her love even though she lacked the courage to say the words.

I say “Corsage” because that’s what they called it in the show, but I am on team this is really a combat charm and here’s why. Scylla’s parents are dead; she never received a combat charm from her mother to keep her safe in war. There is no Ramshorn family heirloom to be passed down from mother to daughter. These are obviously a big deal in the MFS universe because Tally’s mom, though disapproving of her daughter’s choice to join the military willingly, still makes and sends her a combat charm to keep her safe. 

Someone somewhere last week pointed out that the symbol on the charm is an Algiz, and it is. An Algiz is the rune symbol for protection. This would therefore add to the theory that this is more of a combat charm than a simple “Corsage”. 

It also looks as though Tally’s charm incorporates an Algiz along with potentially (I’m no rune expert so someone confirm) the symbols for Earth (representing stability, home, strength) and Kalc (Representing chalice and offering), which (if true) would literally represent Momma Craven offering Tally a source of protection and strength from her home/family. Which is pretty beautiful. 

Also, for all you Earpers out there, the Algiz may look familiar...

And this is what really hits me in the gut. Because Raelle was making her a combat charm to keep her safe and the implications it has about family. Because of what Raelle learns about Scylla’s family during Beltane, and because of her coming to terms with her feelings and saying “No matter what happens, I’m with you”, her gifting this to Scylla is Raelle saying “I am your family, I care if you live or die, I am going to keep you safe and I won’t leave you.” Scylla’s parents are dead, but Raelle is now her family. I bet we’re going to see this come up again in the future.
