he’s the king of finding a back door, sliding by on the skin of his teeth and making up an excuse why his actions are sensible and defensible. her logic is flawed, by his standards, but if it makes her feel better and it’s what she believes, who is he to argue? ❝ it’s cute that you’re trying to justify a relapse. ❞ no matter what she calls it, or how serious the instance was, he still views it as a loss of self control, a failure (though his own moments of weakness have been often and many). ❝ i think your idea of a hall pass and mine are two entirely different things. ❞
New to town but her story already known it’s not like she could hide who she was for long. Somehow the truth was going to find a way to come to light. “Cute?” Olivia’s teasing already beginning. “Since when is a relapse cute?” Her eyes a bit more dilated than usual. She wasn’t even pretending that she wasn’t making mistakes left and right. “What are your ideas of a hall pass?” Genuine interest in what he would respond with. “Wait,” she held up her finger reaching for her phone. “I should write these down. Research on the mental workings of Nate Jacobs.”

Rue like, kinda doesn’t want to be at this party. She comes with a friend, and she feels like, weirdly out of place despite the way the party feels like she’s just walked in on some fam-jam situation BACK HOME. But the truth is maybe that she’s still sometimes on unsteady grounds, hovering somewhere between fine, and relapsing to the depths of the earth, for Rue, there was no fucking middle ground, and it was all too easy to feel as if the bottom was about to fall out from beneath her.
But with that sudden and unexpected intrusion of space, her startled expression melted into a grin, and without thinking, her arms wind around the other woman, chin on top of her head. It’s an ODD RELIEF that swept right through her, even if it took her like, a minute to digest that the joke was a joke, and not to let cold fear slip like a knife between her ribs because she also like, didn’t have $120. “Well look who it is…. Liv, you’re lookin’ like… fucking… awesome. Where the hell have you been hiding out at? The library? Trying to be all healthy and glowing and shit?”

Liv’s hair and outfit to the nines she wouldn’t have tried to go out looking her best when she was at her worst. While this party seemed homey, it wasn’t home to her. She didn’t even know how to respond to Rue. Hiding did seem like the only way to describe where she had been. After making such a big deal of her sobriety it was harder to admit to backsliding, and slipping into less than healthy habits.
“Ha,” she laughed. Even Rue’s hold felt light, as if it was the only thing grounding her. “Sure, healthy.” She did try this whole juicing thing during her small moments of sobriety, anything to offset the fact that she was filling her body with toxins. Still not admitting to Rue that she and Liv were one and the same she wasn’t sure if she could even be around the girl who she had bonded with during her darkest moments. Reaching for a beer that had just been brought by someone she didn’t know she gave Rue a look as if to tell her everything with that bit of a sip. “We should get out of here.” She shrugged, putting one hand in her pocket. “I just got here but is it just me or is it kind of weird?”

Disappointment, sadness, guilt, she wasn’t even sure what to convey as she caught eyes with Jess. Already opening her mouth to say something she paused to assess how bad this could be. She had no actual excuse, but it was worth a try. “All I ask is that you don’t get mad at me.”
