Isa rubs her palm over the denim on her hip once again.  She does it because it’s the only way she can forget about the feeling of Niall’s thumb on her lip, about how much she’d wanted to pull it between her teeth and tease his fingertip with her tongue.  She does it because it’s the only way she can forget how his lips felt on her cheek, about how badly she wants to know what they feel like on her neck, her chest, her—

But that train of thought is far too dangerous for her current state of mind so she pushes her hands down the sides of her thighs and traces patterns on her hip and tugs on the belt loops.

“How are you?” Liam asked immediately. “Are you hurt? Are you at home? Did you sleep? Please tell me you got some sleep.”

“Liam,” I breathed out, pinching the bridge of my nose between my fingers. I could feel tears pricking at my eyes, Liam’s concerns putting me in a place I didn’t want to be. “I’m…I’m okay,” I finally said. Saying I was fine seemed like a lie, even if it’s what I truly wanted to tell him. If I said I was fine enough times, wouldn’t that make me okay?

“Vera…” he said slowly, his voice drooping in tone over the line. “Will you talk to me, please?”

The door opens and another woman walks past her to an open cubicle.  She gives Isa a knowing look, the kind that is dripping with pity and says ‘been there, done that, sister’.  It stings.  It’s only for a second, but it’s long enough to cut deep and sharp in the way that another woman’s judgement always does.  The belittling once-over has Isa’s blood bubbling with anger and her spine stiffening with indignation.  Isabella Osorio Pérez does not cry over boys in pub loos.  She does not sit idly by and watch everything she wants lounge around in front of her.  She takes what she wants, she makes it happen.  And she’s damned if she doesn’t do the same thing tonight.

So Isa runs her fingers through her curls, rubs her red-stained lips together, and decides that when she gets back to the table, she’s going to make Niall forget about every other woman in the world.

Or, a story about an orphan girl taken from her village and into the imperial harem, with Zayn struggling to rule an empire that’s in strife and not knowing who to trust.

I’m bad at endings.  I’m bad at goodbyes and leaving and not looking over my shoulder as I go.  I’m bad at losing things and getting over it, at tearing down old bridges and building new ones.  And I’m really fucking bad at metaphors.

With the announcement that Horan would not be continuing his work on the children’s series, which he had dedicated to his son, Xander, we can’t help but wonder if something else is taking up all of his energy. Could it be that he’s decided to move on to writing serious literature again, like he had before he became a father? Or is there another reason entirely? 

Our source hinted that there was a possible candidate for Horan’s affections, though the prize-winning author has refused comment. Mr. Horan always has liked his privacy when it comes to his private life – anyone remember when he surprised the world with his marriage to Xander’s mother, actress Tilda Hart? (The pair separated last year.)

Niall snorted, rolled his eyes and tossed the magazine back onto the desk, having read enough. He could see what was so amusing about it to someone like Sterling, who was still fighting an amused smile from her seat on the other side of the table. If they weren’t in a classroom with twenty kids who were busying themselves with an art project – which the both of them were being horrible at overseeing, he realized – he might just flip her the middle finger for the smug look on her face.

As it was, he settled for sticking his tongue out at her and pushing out of his chair, making his way over to the tables where the kids were working to make sure that no one had glued their hands together yet. Luckily no one had, though there were a few pieces of paper stuck to faces.

Sterling – er, Miss Mitchell, he corrected himself – was still grinning as she followed him over, though her face lit up when her students started showing her their progress so far. Niall couldn’t help but smile as well. Her smile was contagious when it was that natural, sweet grin on her face. It struck him then just how fond he had grown of his son’s teacher, especially if he was thinking about things like how much he liked her smile.

A potential candidate for his affections? He couldn’t help but admit that much was true, though he doubted that even Mariska Teller could know that much about his life (even if she had been following him around for years).

breakfast at saint laurent by @styleslegends - a post break up au where olivia davis hates harry styles more than anything. if the title alone doesn’t make you want to read then corrina’s prose will. she is breaking my heart and i am okay with it. 

crooked love by @hurrricanes - okay, it’s based off the secret messages in taylor swift’s songs and sosie is so cool and works in tv and harry is a writer and my heart hurts thinking about these two, just read it. plus em is such an amazing writer, i am in awe of her and always threatening to fight her.

down & out by @inkoasis - in a sea of angst there is this shining beacon of warmth. this is an au where harry plays for the green bay packers and parker just got back in town and is trying to figure her life out. it’s filled with warmth and family and nicki is so brilliant i don’t know how to handle it half the time. 

every moment matters by @nofockingwya - this is such a beautiful story, emily and harry met and fell in love and then life happened in the cruelest way. fair warning i cried reading this, but it’s such a realistic story i welcome the pain.

leather and lace by @mackabees - this story is about romee and so far we don’t know the whole story but what she deals with is v v personal for me and probably lots can relate. it’s also a post break up ou, where something went down between harry and romee and there are a lot of hurt feelings and fleetwood mac references.

matters of the heart by @afitzgeraldfic - a fairytale au where claude is not your typical princess, zayn is her best friend, and harry is a v v mysterious servant. honestly, the world that alice has created with this fic is AMAZING and her writing/descriptions will make you want to yell at her in the best way.

on pins and needles by @madminniefics - liam is a football player that put a roommate ad up on craigslist and it turns out that stevie is not a boy. this fic is so cute and i adore rj and her writing, plus boy/girl accidental roommates = sexual tension.

polaroid by @stilesharrystyles - i don’t even know where to start. faye is adorable and the most understanding gal around and her boyfriend harry woke up one morning thinking he was part of a massive band called one direction. it’s a au/ou crossbreed and i am so intrigued by eliza’s writing and her plans for this fic.

skinny legs by @harryscribbles - harry is an arrogant writer and freddie is an intern working at the publishing house he uses. sam has created such complex and beautifully flawed characters i don’t know how she does it and she handles some pretty heavy topics with such grace. 

stars in your eyes by @wokeuptired - gwen is a ballet dancer and niall is a maths student, and they are friends…only friends. the characterization of niall is so different in this fic and the dynamic between him and gwen is such an interesting one, and natasha’s writing is kind of beautiful so yeah. 

the nice guy by @onismanxiety - rian is a model only so she can afford to go to uni for engineering and she had absolutely no interest in love, then came harry who kind of messed her entire world up. jo has made such a realistic world with this fic and she is kind off shattering hearts, but if you are in the mood for an ou this is the fic for you.

turn off all the lights by @buzcutt - a uni au where mel and harry live in a house together. the prose is beautiful and mel’s inner thoughts are fantastic and it’s filled with so much depth and fascinating characters, georgia is just an incredible writer.

vo’ke by @beggingforfics - harry is a realist that doesn’t really know what he believes in and scarlett has found herself in the middle of a supernatural mess on her reservation. i yell at hannah a lot over this fic, i have no idea how she came up with this but if you want something that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, then read this fic. oh and there are werewolves. 

waking sober by @jetblackkhearts - elena and harry broke up a while ago and then now he has showed back up again and elena really doesn’t know how to handle it all. again, this fic is filled with complicated people and heather is handling such a common problem with such beauty my heart just aches reading it. 

what a feeling by @ninetyfovr - another post break up fic, it’s an ou set after 1d’s hiatus and harry is a wonderful mess that is trying to figure his life out in new york city only to run into kodi, aka the one that got away. emma is out to break your hearts with the dynamic between harry and kodi, again i am okay with it.

“Liam,” she said breathlessly, his name slipping effortlessly off her tongue though she’d stumbled over it all week.

“Hi Ces,” he murmured, his soft voice sparking a warm feeling that spread right through her. She had to fist her hands in the fabric of her dress to resist reaching out for him, swallowing past the lump that sprung up in her throat. Liam smiled gently, his cheeks pressing up until his eyes crinkled fondly, a sight so familiar that it brought a smile to her own face.

“You’re back.”

“I’ve got an interview that I just couldn’t miss,” he told her and she could tell by his pointed tone that he’d seen her text, and it was part of what had drawn him back to the city. Her cheeks burned under the pressure of her grin as she looked at the ground sheepishly, peeking up at him as she chewed on her lip. “An interview that I’m going to be late for if I don’t get moving.“ 

He took a step backward toward the front door but his eyes remained trained on her, roaming over her and pausing where the swell of her stomach was just barely visible beneath her dress. There was a proud gleam in his warm brown eyes when they slid back up to hers. “You look good, Cecily.”

The coffee shop was warm and smelled like home. Really, anything that smelled like coffee beans and espresso felt especially homey to me. A lot of uni students gathered at their tables, notes and books spread across the tops. I smiled, thinking back on the fond memories I had here while I was still a student. Niall and I used to come nearly daily to get work done, even if it was just for a few hours. Eventually, it grew to Niall, Zayn, Soledad, and me, or any combination of the four of us. My cheeks flushed when I thought about Liam first approaching me here, just a fit lad looking for an open seat.
