Butterflies and Violence. [Blackinnon]
āāOh man, how is the old guy?āā Marlene asked, stepping back and folding her arms around herself. Although summer was in full spring, nights still got chilly and goosebumps rose up on her bare legs.Ā āāYou say that as if there are decent snakes. The party was great, you definitely missed out. I smashed an expensive looking vase, got drunk, smoked cigarettes with Rabastan and managed to piss off Lucius with just a charming smile. Anyone would think that the sod hated me.āā
Marlene paused on the Rabastan subject, opting to brush it off rather than admit sheād spent the night with him in her parents beach house, drinking. They may not be a thing, but yet it still felt wrong to spend time with any other guy. Which was stupid. Marlene quit her mental debate, brawn winning over brain as she spewed the words out like some kind of secret test.Ā āāHeās quite interesting to hang out with. Drinks just as much as me. Merlin knows I needed a drinking buddy being cooped up alone in this house. āIām not staring.āā
She spoke sharper than she meant to, defensively before pulling herself together and giving him a sly smile.Ā āāI just forgot how hideous your face was.āā Marlene quipped, sauntering back inside with a sultry smile.
āI guess you could say heās hanging in there.ā Sirius shrugged.Ā āHeās old, and heās worrried. No oneās heard from Andromeda since she took her lover boy and ran for the hills.ā he looked at Marlene with wide eyes. āYou havenāt seen her or anything, have you? She hasnāt written?āHe shook his head quickly.Ā āMeda was a decent snake. I liked her just fine, and there was that Julia girl. A bit mean, I guess, but she was alright.ā He rolled his eyes after a second.Ā āIām implying that hanging out with Rab is a bad idea. Iām bad news, heās a bad guy. Literally.ā
There was something off between the two of them, he could practically taste it in the air around them. But, it could have been the fact that heād been standing in front of her for nearly ten minutes and neither one of them had pounced on the other. Of course, it didnāt help that Mar had been acting strange since heād arrived.Ā āHeās not interesting, heās an ass. You didnāt grow up with the kid. I did. Iām not lying when i tell you he used to rip the wings off of butterflies.ā Sirius shook out h\his whole body as if to physically remove the memory.Ā āDoe drinks just as much as you do. I drink just as much you do. Hell, write Lupin the next time youāre feeling lonely. The blokeās got the tolerance of a giant. Stay the hell away from Lestrange.ā He paused for a moment to ass the word please, but stopped short.Ā āOh, you so were! McKinnon, you canāt lie to me!ā He spoke gleefully.Ā
He watched as she walked inside.Ā āBullshit, Mar. You could never forget my face-- hideous or not. You love me too much.ā With that, he followed her.
