I just want to crawl in bed with someone I care about and have my heart feel at home again and watch movies and talk about random stuff for hours
“People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is ‘you’re safe with me’- that’s intimacy.”
— Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Finished reading Gideon the Ninth recently! I can’t believe how Harrow and Gideon moved back to Drearburh together at the end and maybe redid the decorations so that they weren’t so awful and lived together and adopted a cat and had coffee every Saturday morning with Palamedes and Camilla :) :) :) :)
So I just finished rereading GtN and my appreciation for this unassuming line has grown even further:
Just. The way in which – at the highest emotional point in the book, when you’re completely devastated and heartbroken – it hits you with Harrow’s point of view and how she sees Gideon, and specifically her eyes, in stark contrast with how Gideon describes hers, and there’s this unfiltered, almost teasing, glimpse of how Harrow has been feeling about her and you’re hit with an overwhelming sense of loss for what could have been…
Anyway, I love suffering.
