Peter spoke distractedly as he shifted the gear he was carrying around so he could use the camera rig he had for sports and action events in order to hopefully take a few good shots of Tony, anyway.  Stepping closer, Peter made sure to mind a sphere of personal space while snapping.

“Nice moves, by the way.  Very ‘Interpretive Dance’.  Shows your sensitive side.  Can’t wait to sell these back to you in the morning.“

Mary Jane had been leaning over their kitchen island, manicured nails flipping through the glossy pages of a magazine. A high fashion one she’d been told showcased her latest promotional picture for a brand she’d been representing for a little over five weeks now. It was exciting to say the least and part of her wanted to buy every one off the stands just to cut the photos out and tape them around the apartment. She was even sure that Peter wouldn’t protest but the idea did seem a little childish so instead the redhead settled on just doggy earring the opposite page and pushing it towards the corner of the bar. 

It was an insane feeling, seeing the blown up photos of herself plastered around in magazines, billboards and even on a few buses. Finally it seemed her career was taking off and she had the job offers to prove it along with the paychecks. A fact she was quite thankful for, especially considering the recent lack of love Spiderman was receiving from the public and press. 

A familiar and welcomed voice sounded from the opposite room, forcing her out of her own musings. “Yes to the movie.” Comes her easy response as she pushes off the island and practically dances towards the living room, twirling on her toes as she moves. “And in order to find the remote, you may actually have to try looking for it first.” Leaning over the doorframe Mary Jane pauses, her fingers resting against the wood as her hair falls like a curtain framing her face. It wasn’t everyday she got to spend lounging around the apartment, not when her time was filling up with bookings and plane rides across country. So it was these times that she choose to mess with Peter in the sweetest way possible.

Grinning playfully she pushes off the frame and moves towards him. Continuing her little twirls before stopping directly in front of him, his bent knees grazing against her own. It wasn’t that she wanted to annoy him, just capture his attention for a moment or two. “Hm, fashion advice Tiger? Well I think for starters you might consider getting rid of the pair of jeans you’ve had since senior year.”

The light brush was enough to shift his focus, hands moving to hold everything securely so he didn’t drop the rig as he looked up.  He was learning it was best to listen to her more subtle hints, because Mary Jane wasn’t subtle for long.

“…but, these jeans are ridiculously comfortable.  I do my best thinking when I’m comfortable.  And it’s not for me besides- thanks, babe.  I meant for this.”

He sat forward, reaching past her legs to the coffee table to pick up the same pad of graphing paper he had used however many years ago.  Giving her a small tug to sit in his lap, he angled the scribbled drawings towards her until she took hold of it to flip through herself, if she chose to.

“Hornet suit.  I need colors that don’t scream ‘Spidey’ or even ‘New Avengers’.  It also can’t look completely put-together, I’m trying to hide in this flood of newbies.  So maybe a little silly, almost?  Does that make sense?”

He frowned up at her, eventually crinkling his nose and smirking.

“…probably doesn’t make any sense.”

Well either way its okay I’m sure because my super smart boyfreind makes up for the intelligence department while I carry on in the looks. Personally I think we do a pretty dandy job of evening each other out in the relationship in the end. What is Goda’s camera anyways?

And it’s an extremely fast camera that they could possibly use to track movement of cancer cells, for example.  They’re calling it “the selfie that could save your life”.

Gotta admit, that’s pretty fascinating. Technology really has come a long way. Yesterday we were wondering the possibility of Hovercrafts, today we’re discovering atom behavior in nuclear fissions. I assume you’re big into science?

It’s a hobby, sure.  I like cameras too.

And Pluto.  I like Pluto, a lot, and NASA’s got new photos posted.

Danke.  They’ve created a camera that can film otherwise unrecordable processes, some occurring in under milliseconds.  The belief is that it can even track cancer cells in the blood stream.  Atom behavior in nuclear fission reactions, shock waves, combustion, laser cutting...the camera can help us fill in the blanks concerning a number of things.

It had been four months and Peter felt no less entitled to scold himself for putting faith in the New Avengers program.  He had done his best to get along well enough and his unhappiness wasn’t with Kate or Alex or anyone in particular, just that he had let his guard down-started to believe- and that Parker Luck must have taken it as a cue to rear its head.  He had lost so much, so fast.  He had given up so much for nothing; college, relationships, and now even the webs.

He still found himself reaching for the costume at the back of the closet now shared with a budding supermodel, the temptation to don the suit strong but always unsuccessful.  He couldn’t afford to chance it.  The line between super and mutant was invisible to some people and regardless of what freaks may have been out there he himself remained undefinable.  He was neither, he was both, belonging nowhere.  All he knew without a doubt was that he was hunted and hated.  Spider-man had been a Jameson target for as long as Parker could remember, but the media hype and resentful atmosphere of the city had set the Bugle EIC up to deliver a killing blow to the tune of a million dollar bounty for the Wallcrawler’s head.  Well, mask.

There was supposed to be a climactic showdown between the hero and his arch nemesis.  Luke fought Vader, Batman fought the Joker...Harry fought Voldemort.  Peter had days where he played the scenario in his head of confronting J. Jonah.  He wasn’t old enough a man that some part of Peter wouldn’t punch the stupid little mustache off his face.  It was misdirected anger, but it would have been so satisfying.  He couldn’t blame the journalist, either, as Peter was always asking “Is it me?”

The city had answered “yes”.

He currently sat on the sofa, parts and tools scattered over their small coffee table as he tinkered with a set of dart gauntlets he could use while moonlighting as one of the flood of newbie vigilantes.  SHIELD may have enlisted the Spider but The Hornet could help keep the rampant crime at bay, and Peter Parker could have something similar to a life somewhere in between it all.  An open carton of cold beef and broccoli sat amongst crumpled balls of paper (rejected designs) and empty coffee cups, testament to the hours he’d spent toiling over an outfit that would serve him better on patrols than large sweatshirts and train bandit handkerchiefs.

“Em?” He piped up though his eyes stayed trained on what his hands were working on, always appearing so grim when his concentration was so focused.  “C’mon, are we watching a movie?  I can’t find the remote.  Plus, I need your fashion sense.”
