andrew: [puts wymack on his hear me out cake]
kevin: [one second away from crying]
jean: [nodding seriously] absolutely yeah
neil: no you know i get it
Kevin is that one girl who shouts out that's my dad
Can you imagine how Andrew felt getting back from rehab? He’s just been through months of withdrawal and repeated trauma, but this is par for the course for him. This is what he does. He takes the brutality to protect his loved ones from it. And he gets back to find that the guy he had a crush on, who he thinks is a side effect of the drugs, walked into a torture dungeon for two weeks to try and save him from getting more hurt? No one in Andrew’s life had ever fought for him like that before. No one had tried to protect him before. Andrew knows how scared Neil is of Riko. But Neil went anyways. How heartbreaking must it have been for Andrew to finally experience being cared for?
achilles was a worse person in the iliad than in tsoa. some might say it’s inaccurate character adaptation, but i’d like to look at it as part of the tragedy.
it’s tragedy because now we have context. because we know who patroclus thinks achilles is. it’s tragic because patroclus knows the achilles who juggled figs and raced in lakes and adored patroclus’ mother’s lyre. the achilles patroclus knows would never commit such atrocities. the achilles patroclus knows wouldn’t torture somebody in such a way. that’s not his achilles. not anymore
it’s a tragedy because patroclus was the first to lose his life, but achilles was the first to die.
aaron watching andrew be forced to take a medication that will alter his mental state.
aaron seeing all andrew's nervous tics before he takes the first pill. aaron seeing how scared andrew is.
aaron sitting outside the bathroom door while andrew gets sick after trying to get off his meds the first time. when andrew finally comes out into the hall and sees aaron, he just walks right past him. "withdraw sucks doesn't it?" aaron says. "don't talk to me," andrew says back and aaron can't help but hate how tired and defeated andrew sounds.
Sometimes I lie awake at night thinking about how in the shower scene, Andrew took off his armbands. He wasn’t scared of getting them wet or anything; he was literally wearing the rest of his clothes, but he knew that he was seeing Neil’s scars so he let Neil see his
I've said it before and I'll say it again but Andrew going after Nicky for his rape jokes towards Neil was a response to his trauma not that he thought Neil was a babe
hc that immediately after the events of the trilogy neil crashes so hard. from christmas onwards his body has been abused and in various stages of healing and he is running through it all on adrenaline. this boy wins the championship and secures his safety and i bet just turns off.
there's no nathan or riko to be running from. the season is over, he has his trophy. there is nothing immediately pressing that concerns his performance on the court or his/andrew's/the team's safety and his body finally gets to come out of fight or flight and man is he fucking tired.
I always think about how we saw Andrew at one of the lowest points in his life. Like after thanksgiving, getting sober, and Proust (a reminder of everything that had ever happened to him), Andrew was probably near the most raw, unforgiving, and volatile he could ever be. Add that to the harsh personal contrast of how relatively calm his life was right before; it's safe to say we saw Andrew at his worst.
So when people say things like Andrew bottoming (something Nora said he one day does in the ec) don't make sense, or just overall say things that imply Andrew is exactly like how we see him for the rest of his life, it kills me. Because we saw him at one of the worst points in his life, but more importantly we saw him get given the tools and the people to heal. So yes, he's always gonna be rude as fuck and generally off putting, but he's gonna grow and transform in ways we couldn't imagine. He'll always have trauma, and his outlook will always be influenced by it, but he was a teenager in those books, and he has an entire life to live and heal with Neil and Bee and yes, Aaron.
Aftg is about overcoming trauma, and it doesn't necessarily focus on the healing part of that, but I still think it's one of the most important post-canon things that this fandom doesn't really talk about.
Objectively speaking, Neil should have issues with his sight if not be completely blind in one eye, at least the one near the burn scar.
For plot reasons none of this happened, but logically speaking being burnt so closely to your eye would damage the capillaries and the general sight + the other eye wouldn't be safe either because of the cuts, they got pretty close to it more than once so it should have some kind of damage.
This came up to me while i was thinking about Andrew discovering Neil's blind spot and using it so he can gaze at him for entire minutes until Neil finally turns around and catches him. (he calls this "observing" and "checking he's not hurt", but everyone knows he's just lovingly staring at Neil) (("You're staring" "No I'm not." "You were!" "Shut up, Josten."))
Neil at first doesn't even notice it, he knows that Andrew is always standing close to him, whether or not it's in his blind spot, so he doesn't bother turning to check, until one day someone sits on Neil's side before Andrew can and the midget almost breaks hell loose for his place. Neil calls himself stupid for not catching it earlier and the foxes are not even surprised it took him months to become aware of what was happening mere inches from him.
(everyone should thank @sapphoherselz for this one, she screamed at me to post this after i spent a good half an hour yapping)
Ain't it crazy how Andrew knows all of Neil because he has an eidetic memory but Neil knows all of Andrew because he paid attention and committed that shit to memory like the information was relevant to his survival even though he'd long since earned the safety of his long long life?
"I can never forget you" they whisper into each other's mouths. One echoes of inability. The other echoes of imperative. Both understand.
HEY PINOCCHIO
and they say romance is dead
The fact that the very first thing Andrew does when we meet him, and I mean the very first thing, is stop Neil from running. I'm gonna throw up
Please enjoy this shitty Dr.Minyard drawing thanks 🫡
Did anyone see the injured handball player carried off the field by opponent video???
Now imagine that but pro exy players andreil on opposing teams 😭😭
Maybe everyone thinks they hate each other or something and then Neil gets injured and Andrew literally abandons the goal to carry him off the field. Neil doesn't fight it either; just tucks himself closer and holds on and everyone around is just ?????????hate???didn't they hate?? eachother???
It would be SO cute and SO hilarious
(might write something about this 👀)
(in case you don't know which video)
I keep imagining Andrew as a little league coach to the most ferocious pack of little girls
Imagine a little 7 year old, chubby cheeks, missing tooth, two poofs of hair sticking out struggling to get the last strap of her glove fastened so Andrew comes over to help her out. As a thank you she picks a little flower and hands it to him. Andrew keeps that flower tucked behind his ear the rest of the day.
Or a bunch of 10 year olds decided that his black arm bands are boring so they conspire to get him a new pair that they all draw on themselves so he has something pretty to wear. Every time Andrew looks down at his arms he's reminded of their care and kindness.
Or middle school aged girls who ruthlessly go to bat for him whenever some random parent tries to use Andrew's sorted past as an excuse why he shouldn't be allowed to coach children.
Or Andrew being clued into all the hot gossip the team spills because they trust and value his opinions.
A group of girls who give no mercy and are hell on the exy court because they have the best mentor. Not only do they have excellent skills but they are by far the most coherent team.
Andrew being able to guide, lead, and support kids in ways he never received. Andrew being the coolest coach anyone could have ever asked for. Andrew Minyard, the only person who can truly understand and foster the feral nature of little girls.
Andrew Minyard deserves to score a goal. While playing goalie. Casually, not a twitch in his expression as the world melts down around him.
Its already canon in my mind
