she shrugged. “sure, if you want to.” she slid over, making room for jean underneath the levitating book. it took a little bit for jo to swallow her pride enough to ask for help. but there was this one spell she couldn’t get. she always had trouble with words surrounding water or anything aquatic. she just didn’t run into them an awful lot. she pointed out the particular word. “i think it’s something to do with water, but i don’t know the action, whether its conjuring it or dispelling it.”

Jean scooted into the space the fellow girl made for her, squinting as she tried to get a better look at the text printed on the book. Her eyes scanned the page for a minute, trying to get a better sense of what context the word was in. "It definitely is about water, you're right about that," she said, offering up a smile, "It looks like it's to dispel it, but I think if you do the same actions in reverse, you can conjure it."

Jialun rolled his eyes, leaning against the side of his doorframe. That’s just how I talk, he thought, slightly wounded. “That depends,” he replied, fingers drumming a dull rhythm against the wall, “On what you wanted me to do for you.” 

He glanced to the side, shrugging. “I’m a simple guy. Favor for a favor is what I usually ask for — unless you have any gossip to share.”

"I don't know enough people at camp to know any gossip," she contemplated for a moment about whether or not what little knowledge of camp she did have would count a 'gossip', and decided against that route. She was hesitant to reveal what favor she wanted, and instead tried to gauge what the price would be.

"We'll have to go with the favor, I suppose. What did you have in mind?"

Rowan chuckled at the other’s words. “Don’t worry, I think I might just be the one doing the butt kicking,” she teased, immediately going in for the attack.

Jean grinned as the girl lunged at her, and she easily dodged to the side, albeit a little slowly, causing the girl's fist to just brush her shoulder. She resumed her stance, waiting for the girl to attack again. Unless it was a real fight, Jean wasn't a particularly aggressive girl, so she preferred to let her opponent do most of the attacking.

      “seriously, don’t apologize. I’m just glad it wasn’t the sharp end of the sword that struck me,” chance reassured her with a smile. he slowly made his way over to a weapon rack and hung up one of the practice swords, his head canting to the side at she spoke. “with swords, yes. my luck wears thin with those so it’s about time i switch back over to my bow for a while.”

"I'm still sorry," Jean took the opportunity to throw in one last apology, even though she wasn't sure he would accept it at all. "I think you're really just scared of getting your butt kicked again," she teased, a bit of a challenge in her voice. She admired his ability to work with a bow, though, considering how extraordinarily bad she was at it.

      “wasn’t expecting that,” he mumbled, rotating his shoulder after he was jabbed with the handle of a sword. “seriously if you’re planning on ruining my shoulder, at least put the blade through it so i have a decent story to tell.” chance stated, looking to the other and processing his words for a moment before taking a step back, a grin forming on his lips. “lets not get any ideas though! maybe next time… you lost your chance today.”

"Sorry!" Jean squeaked at the boys comment, turning away from him to put her sword down and adjust the grips she had on her hands, "I just forget it's not a real fight, sometimes." She did get a little bit too into fighting, and she should probably just stick to the dummies the camp set up just for stabbing-purposes. It just wasn't as challenging for her, though. "You're done already?" she tried to keep the surprise out of her voice, "I'm staying, I need to work on my form."

“I heard you were in need of a favor. Lucky for you, fate is my territory — chance, destiny, you name it, I might be able to help you out.” Jialun met his visitor’s eyes, a small smirk on his face. “Of course, everything has its price.”

"That's...ominous," Jean swallowed a giggle, not wanting to offend the boy. It did, seem extremely creepy, however, and she wanted a better gauge of what he wanted. "Price? What do you want, then," she questioned, "A blood sacrifice? My first born child? Actually- the child thing may not be a great idea, at the rate my love life is going, so, you might be stuck with the blood sacrifice."

“Are you here to train or did you just want to chitchat and gossip like an old lady,” Rowan teases the other with a smirk. “It’s either one or the other, pal.”

Jean adjusted her fighting stance, sizing the girl up as she did so. "I'm here to train, of course; I just thought you might want more time to prepare before I kicked your butt."

“Look- I’m fine,” Harrison groaned as he lowered his ice pack just enough so he was able to clearly see the person standing in front of him. “It’s just a minor periorbital hematoma,” he explained with a small sigh as he slowly recovered his eye. Truthfully the black eye was painful and embarrassing but he really didn’t want to explain that. “There’s some edema, but no major side affects. It’ll be gone in about a week or so, so you really don’t need to worry,” he pleaded with the person. Of course- he didn’t stop to think that the person might not care about whether or not he’s okay- they might simply be staring at his eye. Or maybe they were wondering how he got it.

"Okay, look, I'm no healer, but I'm in the infirmary a lot because I'm a wreck of a human being," she started out as she walked towards him trying to get a better look at his swelling eye, "But, I truly believe that you should maybe go get that looked at." Not that she didn't believe him that it would be okay, especially with all the medical babble he went on about, but Jean couldn't help but worry about the boy. "What happened, anyway? That's a real shiner."

Kaia had a strong preference for being outdoors most of the time and it wasn’t unusual for her to drag her harp out and find a quiet spot near the lake to practice. Her mind was at peace and her fingers were dancing faultlessly over the strings until she heard someone shout and looked over just in time to duck and avoid being smacked on the face by an unidentified flying object. Once she caught her bearings she gave the other person a look before breaking into a smile. “Thanks for the heads up.”

Jean had always been clumsy, ever since she was little, and coupling that with her immense strength as a result of being a child of Ares often lead to disasters. Today was one of those days where she seemed to be tripping over everything. As she tripped for the third time that day, she threw what was in her hand at the girl walking in front of her on accident. "Shit....watch out!" the girl called, giving her enough time to dodge. "It's my fault for throwing it in the first place, sorry 'bout that."

“Your aim looks like shit. Stop overthinking it. Just shoot.” Sloane spoke up from her place in a nearby tree, one leg bent at the knee and settled on the branch, the other freely swinging off the side. She usually made it a point to hang around the infirmary, but had decided to make her way to the archery targets, just for the hell of it.

"You know I'm a better swordsman," Jean complained in reply as Sloane criticized her aim once, "Maybe I just need to accept I'll never be a good shooter." She tossed the bow to the side, taking a seat on one of the benches close by.

"I mean, they're beautiful flowers, and don't you get me started on how beautiful those sticks are," she replied, trying to prevent the edges of her mouth from creeping up into a smile, attempting to maintain the image that she was completely serious. “Yeah, of course,” she snapped out of her trance once and for all, starting to follow the boy to the mess hall.

Stumbling out of his sleepy cabin, he ran into someone, blanket falling off his shoulders with a whine. “Hey–watch out, come on. You are never suppose to stand too long outside of the hypnos cabin, everyone knows that. You’ll get sucked into it if you do, either that or you’ll fall asleep. Were you falling asleep?” He said with a click of his tongue before rubbing his eyes. “Never mind…wanna go get some food? If I don’t eat, my blood sugar is going to drop and then I’ll have to go to the healers and if My mom finds out, she’s gonna threaten to sue the camp again, even though that’s impossible but the anxiety of it all will give me hives…”

Yes, Jean was falling asleep, but no, she would never admit it to the boy who stumbled out of the cabin. “No...I was just, admiring the architecture?” she lied, although the inflection in her voice made it so it was obvious it wasn’t the truth, and she knew the boy wouldn’t buy it. However, she jumped on the chance to get something to eat. “I was actually just headed that way when I got distracted by this cabin...the architecture of it, I mean.” She listened to him chatter on, having never met anyone as chatty if not more so than she was.

“It’s alright… I’d like to say I’m normally not so quiet but that would be me lying… I just don’t talk as much, as most people, I guess.” he says still somewhat quiet. “I’m also just tired.” 

"You're also a bit nervous, I'm assuming," Jean adjusted the bag over her shoulder, "You would be kind of crazy if you weren't. But you'll be okay, I promise." She tried to give him her most reassuring smile, but as a fairly new camper, she knew how hard it could be to adjust. "Where are you from?"

“i dunno, when i came to camp i guess. some siblings taught me how to start levitating, and i started reading up on it. now i can do this kinda stuff in my sleep.” no really, it did drain her to keep things in the air for a while, but books weren’t difficult. she laughed slightly. “pretty fast i guess. it’s al i really do. besides, i’m trying to memorize these spells, but they’re all in latin, so i have to translate them to greek first to really understand them. my latin vocabulary is lacking.”

"Do...you maybe need help translating?" Jean suggested cautiously, slowly moving to sit by the other girl so she could have a better view of what was on the pages. "My mom is a doctor, and she always really emphasized Latin in our education; she always said it was important to know, because the roots are in everything."

“Can’t you tell when someone is trying to sleep?” Sure, it was the middle of the day, and they’d fallen asleep in public, but in their eyes that didn’t make waking them up any less rude.

"Um...sorry, but actually no," Jean replied, sitting in the empty spot about a foot down from where they were laying. "Are you okay? Why are you falling asleep in public? I could have drawn, like, anything on your face and you would have never known it was me."

Cass raised his eyebrows, a daughter of Ares, well just his luck to meet someone who was not only possibly the most chatty person he’d ever met, but she definitely could kick his ass in a moment if he deserved it.”Nice to meet you, Jean, and yeah thanks for the help.” he says handing her the duffle bag he was carrying before. Surely it lightened his load somewhat, but he was still lugging a suitcase behind him and his massive book bag. “I’m Cassian, by the way.” 

Without asking this time, she simply reached over and grabbed his suitcase, as well. She could tell he was struggling with it. It was a rare occasion that she could purposely use her strength for something other than ripping open another bag of pizza rolls. “Nice to meet you,” she smiled as reassuringly as possible before continuing.

“I promise I’m not always this chatty, new people just make me...nervous. But I can’t imagine how nervous you feel right now.”
