You're in her DMs, I'm the antibiotic-resistant norovirus hiding in her lower intestine. We are not the same.
YOLO? NO. Reincarnation! Karma! Everyone acts like they're not coming back and that's exactly why we have things like garbage island and people not using headphones on public transit.

I love the locked tomb series. Only book series that made me go hmmm maybe I should read the Bible.
absolutely love the no-look pass
Following the #tlt tag is wild. Every other post is like here's a nuanced analysis of scene I do not remember with citations to literary figure I've never heard of and pop culture reference that is somehow also a Bible verse.
Wicked the musical is literally only for thirteen-year-old lesbians and people who used to be thirteen-year-old lesbians.
We see the aviators Gideon wears as anachronistically modern for this archaic world, and Harrow reacts to them accordingly, but we must not forget that they are an ancient artefact, pre-resurrection. For all we feel like they mess with her Ninth image they must actually strengthen it to the other houses. This Ninth cultist is wearing ten thousand year old glasses to block out the light. I dare you to think of something more Ninth than that.
Prologues
I was having dinner with a good friend last night, who is currently working on a redraft of her novel; she's taking a workshop that sounds awesome, but she was nervous about having added a prologue, because she'd heard from the other participants that prologues can be offputting. Apparently one person said that if there's a prologue to a novel they just don't read the novel, which absolutely floored me. (It turned out that people liked her prologue, which is just more proof that once you know the rules and reach a certain level of skill, you can break them with impunity.)
I don't read prefaces to books anymore, because usually they contain brutally detailed spoilers, but I still read the actual book. I doubt I even notice a prologue normally. But I know that a book having a particular element that's offputting to a group of readers also isn't confined to commercial fiction -- a lot of fandom won't read fic in the second person or the present tense, for example.
So I told her I'd put up a poll and report back on the results! Tell me all your thoughts on prologues!
A prologue in a novel is
Fine, I doubt I'd notice
Not my favorite but doesn't prevent me from reading it
Downright irritating, and if it's bad I won't read the book
A real turn-off, and if I don't love the author I won't read
An absolute dealbreaker, an immediate no-read
Other, which I will share in notes/tags
Irrelevant, just show me the answers please
I'm setting it to one day because I'm going to be seeing her tomorrow and I figure I can report back then. :D
There's so much potential in a prologue, but I feel like in practice it's usually more for the author's benefit than the reader's and doesn't actually add anything to the reading experience.

ahsoka, ‘dreams and madness’ / jeanne d’arc, albert lynch / i was born for this, alice oseman / l’orléanide, philippe-alexandre le brun de charmettes / bigmouth strikes again, the smiths / ahsoka, ‘fallen jedi’ / joan of arc, princess marie d’orleans / ahsoka, ‘master and apprentice’ / joan of arc, john everett millais
I'm calling it now. Dave Filoni gives Shin a redemption arc just to have her sacrifice herself at the end of Season 2 to save Sabine. Gives them plenty of opportunities for Shin and Sabine interact (and capitalize on the fandom) without having to actually commit to a gay relationship on screen.
Mark Zuckerberg has many things to apologize for, but one thing he doesn't get nearly enough flak for was making that "interested in men or women" checkbox before it was socially acceptable to be gay. It was like, here, proclaim your heterosexuality on Facebook or risk harassment by actual people who go to your high school!
