“Maura Isles, you are under arrest for the murder of Brad Adams” Jane’s voice was almost a whisper and she was trying her best to not show the emotions in front of Maura.
Maura didn’t know what to say. She was being arrested by her best friend for something that all the evidences showed that it was her but she couldn’t even remember what happened.
The two stared at each other forgetting for brief seconds that what would come after this would break them...shatter their friendship. With a clear of the throat Frost got the attention back.
“Jane…”
“Do we have to do this?” Jane was really trying to maintain the stoic face
“It’s procedure Jane” was the calm response from Korsak.
The Detective turned her face to the blonde Doctor and in a slow motion got the handcuffs from the keeper. “I’m so sorry Maura…”
Maura tried to hold off the tears while she turned and put her hands on the back. The cold metal entered in contact with her skin and Maura couldn’t take anymore. Tears started to fall down and the humiliation that this was happening in front of Korsak and Frost was killing her.
Jane then turned Maura back and with the hands on her shoulder stared in her eyes. Jane too couldn’t take anymore and the hurt was shown in her face.
“I…I’ll make everything I can to clear you Maura, please, be sure of that”
“I…” Maura was afraid that she would said something inappropriate so in the end she nodded her head weakly.
Forgetting that her partners were there Jane leaned and just let her lips kiss the Doctor’s forehead for a few seconds. Maura then backed off and fearing that she would crumble on the floor, started to walk off. Korsak and Frost stood at each side and accompanied her off the house. Jane felt the silence and for the first time since she met Doctor Maura Isles a feeling started to crawl into her soul. Wiping with angry the tears that dared to fall she closed the door and walked away. Loneliness.
She felt alone.
