              ‘  i do no such thing.  ‘  summer defended, but within moments she felt a heated blush coat her freckled face and lifted her hands to smack over her cheeks. what did qrow expect from her ? they’ve known each other for years and still he managed to get her to blush from calling her CUTE. was she cute ? summer hardly thought so, especially when she looked like a spotted tomato. 

              although summer was determined to prove her partner wrong, she knew qrow was right. her laughter was stereotypical and more than once she found herself hiding or fanning her face from embarrassment. gods, it was so easy to fluster the short rose.  ‘  ne vous moquez pas de moi ! it’s not my fault, it just happens.  ‘                                                           / @cyniqrow

              although the word comfort never came to summer’s mind ever since getting captured, the former huntress couldn’t deny the sense of relief that came with being alone in her dark and expectantly cramped cell.  being alone meant summer had a moment to  BREATHE  and allow herself the luxury of tearing up after a brutal day spent with salem herself.

             she couldn’t cry, though.  all the tears that stung her once beautiful, now blinded eyes never fell down freckled cheeks.  she’d cried too much in the first few years.  now, even covered in bruises, cuts, and burns, summer found herself incapable of real release. not when she tried so damn hard to force herself to feel absolutely nothing.  upon hearing the faint click of heels, summer quickly backed as far as she could against the stone wall and anticipated salem’s return.

                she’s missing one of her favorite pair of panties, unbeknownst to who would’ve stolen them in the first place. qrow ?  a likely culprit, but also someone who might BRAG about it soon after. shrugging it off, summer simply sighs and decides to blame zwei. he enjoys chewing her cloaks, summer deducts --- ah well. she’ll just have to buy more.

everything was falling apart. the world was falling and all he could think about was where his damn sisters were, teammates and friends the furthest thing from his mind when he couldn’t see any glimpse of red or gold.

   maybe he shouldn’t have been surprised when he heard the familiar accent but he was, startling for a moment before his mind catches up with the sight. fists uncurl, catching her hands quickly despite knowing he shouldn’t drop his guard in a fight, relief enough to choke him as slate eyes meet silver.   ❛ i can’t find them. i wasn’t — ruby was in the stadium and i wasn’t. and yang’s gone too. i don’t know where they are. ❜

                    summer was vigilant for the both of them, silver eyes bright and daunting while she almost DARED any grimm or disgruntled villain to try and harm her boy.  his own worry over his younger sisters must have been mirrored in summer’s expression due to the few beowolves now turning on them, panic and fear filling their senses. 

                     they were dead before they could go near summer’s son. she wouldn’t let them hurt her children ; summer simply couldn’t cope with losing any of them --- the thought alone enough to make her feel sick to her stomach.  ‘  i know. i know, but we need to get ourselves away from here before we try to find them.  ‘  gripping her axe in one hand, summer grabbed for mercury’s and began dragging him further from the fair grounds.  ‘  tai and qrow are looking for the girls. we arranged to meet at a bar down the block, but the building’s been destroyed.  ‘  

                     so where were they ?  summer was very clearly doing her best not to panic, and despite how many times she tried to call tai, her scroll just wouldn’t find any service. they had to be okay, they had to be.  ‘  mercury, we ---  ‘  she was cut off by another grimm landing in her path, successfully knocking her back with a winded gasp.

he was eight or nine when summer found him. marcus finally relented and took him into mistral proper, if only to stop him whining, and summer was there. she took one look at the scrapes and bruises and the way mercury flinched when someone raised their voice and that was the end of that. she gave him a choice, didn’t kidnap him, but mercury hadn’t had someone that cared about his well-being for two years. it wasn’t a hard  choice

once he actually got back to patch though? regret. a lot of regret. he didn’t feel like he belonged there. she had two kids. she had a life. he should just go home to his dad before marcus got angrier, he was already going to be so mad that merc had left. summer didn’t let him. she knew he needed time.

it took a few months, but he settled in. summer wasn’t at all subtle about the fact she had adopted him, for all intents and purposes, and even if that was weird the girls got used to it in the end. ruby grew to wish yang and merc didn’t get along so well, different sides of the same annoying coin, but despite how often they teased her there was no denying that he had developed a fondness for both of them. the siblings he’d never wanted, all that jazz.

he never called tai or summer his parents. there was too much baggage. they never pushed it. he was part of the family now, regardless of what he called them. he is still unspeakably grateful for that.

still thinks qrow’s hair is bad. qrow found it funny

     the door to the cell opens seemingly on its own, the heavy barricade creaking before hitting the wall with a thud. the harsh click of heels, too quick to be salem’s and too uniform to be cinder’s, echo about the cavernous cell. they’re accompanied by the scent of freshly brewed tea.

          ❛ to my knowledge, ❜  comes the doctor’s calm voice. it seems to echo, boom in the room about them.  ❛ you take your tea with cream and five sugars, correct? i think i recall that being an added detail in your file. ❜

              throwing the steaming tea in watt’s face seemed like a far more satisfying start to this conversation, but something told summer to refrain but playing a bad prisoner. instead the weakened huntress remained towards the back of her cell, tiny frame sat on the squeaky cot with a tattered blanket pulled in her lap. 

             she looked BAD from all the abuse she endured by salem, but summer still reached out and graciously accepted the tea with the ghost of her former smile.  ‘  that sounds right. i haven’t made my own tea in years.  ‘  she spoke after a moment, the ceramic mug being pulled to her lips for a sip.  ‘  i have a file ?  what else does it say ?  ‘
