Today’s painting exercises!! 🌈
My painting finished w extra details!!!
Josef and Alber’s Exercise #3
It didn’t come out how I wanted it to but I thought I’d post it anyway. I think i’ll give this another try soon!
My still life! Didn’t get a good picture before the school closure 🥺😞
Here are my collages! 🥰
My opaque oil painting of “Untitled” by Philip Gusto! Making this piece was a fun process & very messy. Mixing different tones of paint was sooooooo satisfying! I think the proportions are pretty good, too, besides the right figure not being rounded enough & “glasses” should be more oval-ish & not like circles.
Sadly can’t find pictures of my transparent painting, so here’s the opaque one!!!
My warm and cool paining
This is really cool
This painting is so nice! I feel like the colors are simple but really effective in contrasting. Good job!!!
quarantine selfie aka potato vibes! lol hope everyone is doing well & staying safe :)))
With the release of a massive new monograph and a retrospective traveling from London to Paris to New York, artist David Hockney—and his beloved dachshunds—is in the spotlight
This artist is a favorite of mine, because he does amazing human portraits, but also did a whole collection of paintings of his dachshunds!! Absolutely adorable and awesome to see how he could paint a scene so quickly when dogs move around constantly, hence all of the different angles & poses in the paintings :) Check out his painting please, they are the best
The artist has spent her career using abstract and figurative images to tell enigmatic stories. But a recent work has made her an incendiary figure.
Dana’s work caught my eye from the powerpoint, especially the second piece! I think this article is a really interesting expression of her, how her anxiety & sleeplessness pushed her to make racial and political paintings that are amazing. Read this if you get the chance :)
Hi all :D
So, I’m almost done with my painting. I’m not sure what color to paint the background.
I loved doing this painting, not sure if I started it correctly because obviously I don’t have the technique, but little by little I started getting the hang of it. The hardest part for me was blending the paint to transition from the dark purples to the yellow.
Hope y'all like it.
WOW I LOVE 😍
I love the blending, it’s very Cezanne-like!
Color is one area that, for me, is pure, fun intuition. I usually work without color to develop an idea, and color studies come next in a gouache or oil sketch. I make choices based on what color I want to see and feel in the painting space, what the form seems to demand, what colors I’ve used already in the group of paintings I’m working on, and maybe other artists I’ve been looking at. I think I’ve been traveling more esoteric color avenues, but it’s always a struggle to look beyond your own natural predilections.
Sascha Braunig
I find this quote from Braunig as a really interesting take on color; seeing what speaks to you is human nature, and I’m grateful she acknowledges that. It is also true that she mentioned natural predilections, because we do hold biases no matter how unbiased we attempt to be.
Discord color update.
It really looks like a real painting lol. Really good job!!
Three photos I would like to paint, but I like the one with the moon in particular.🔥🔥
The moon is cool, it has a ton of texture & contrast!! do ittt
A b&w picture I want to paint! I wanna get a little abstract with it :)
I think an obvious mood for this image is relaxed/chic. I think an unexpected mood would be wacky, colorful & playful. I’m thinking of doing a rainbow! :)
Discussion Question(s) 2
What are some ways in which we might find an image? What are the limitations of these ways?
How is ‘Google image search’ limiting? (Is my google search the same as yours? Why why not?)
How might we search deeper for images that are less repeated, rare, unique, lost….?
1) You can find images from online, from physical things like magazine, or create a photo yourself.
2) It’s limiting because of Google’s prioritization of advertised sites. Also, there’s so many images online hidden behind thousands of other pages and search options. We can never truly see everything on the internet.
3) Maybe find a niche website most people wouldn’t use?
