Doreen Virtue was a very prominent force in the Hay House publishing company, and she made extremely popular oracle decks that often featured non-threatening and soothing images, with fairies, and mermaids, and angels, and Jesus, as she was very Christian and didn’t approve of spooky things. So, like, not the actual fae. Like garden pixies. Also the quality was kind of poor depending on what era the deck was published in.

This all changed when she was married.

Born again Christian, converted by her husband, Ms. Virtue was no longer content with her fortune selling the gentlest oracle decks money could buy— nay, she rejected her legacy, said that all fortune telling was ACTUALLY demonic and that she had been deceived into thinking that she was contacting angels, all her decks were lies, and that she would end all publishing of her tarot decks from here on out. The era was over. People thought about suing her since she said her decks had never worked and were a scam but I never heard that anything formal manifested.

So anyway yeah now her decks are collectibles, since she spent all her residual money on them to Christian charities and won’t be making any more. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Oh gods, DV.... She REALLY disrupted the new age/witchy communitu, though she ALWAYS thought witchcraft was evil/Satanic. Her first book (The Lightworker's Way) was published in 1997 and she became known as an expert on Angels, divination, the law of attraction, faeries, earth spirits, the various gods (as a metaphor for big-g God), healing, and empathy. Pretty much all the big topics in new age spirituality. She started creating her own oracle decks because tarot was too dark - she'd remove a bunch of Major Arcana and the ENTIRE swords suit from her own decks. So you can safely assume that her decks were all love-and-light, positive-vibes-only creations.

In 2017, she announced she converted to Christianity as a born again and renounced all her previous teachings as demonic delusions and lies. See, she wasn't a lying liar, she had been deceived. For 20 years!

The failure of an animal rescue (she was constantly asking for huge donations to cover feed and supplies) she had started in Hawaii with promises to her audience to never re-home or dissolve it were broken when she rehomed the animals & sold it. Theoretically she had been using her book, workshops, classes, and deck sales royalties to pay a monstrous amount in back taxes.

Imo, DV has always been nonsense, but pretty standard nonsense. The thing that gets me is how she continued to create and publish books and decks for nearly a YEAR after her actual conversion and deciding things were denomic seductions (keeping it all secret). She taught a workshop the weekend before her infamous video. I barely care how people convert from or two Christianity, but this kind of lying and deception - condemning people's souls to hell KNOWINGLY (in her opinion) is pretty appalling. People defend her saying she was under contracts, but I don't give a shit - I would break any contract to avoid selling people's souls to Satan (if I believed any of that). And then she decided to keep targeting and send folks after other spiritual folks, ESPECIALLY if they discussed her in articles or podcasts (coughcough).

Anyways, it was a huge thing and I feel SO BADLY for the folks she betrayed. I did a few podcasts on it and have references to all this somewhere I'd have to dig out if someone wanted them.

A friend, though, has been finding a ton of DV decks at thrift stores for a buck or two and selling them on eBay for $20-100 depending on the deck.

Real shit tho guys, witchblr puts so much emphasis on divining a little bit often that no one ever talks about the big divining sessions for when you need as much information as possible.

To all the new magic practitioners out there, when you have a few types of divination you're competent in and you have a big issue you want to divine about, GO ALL OUT. Invoke the gods, light the candles, summon the spirits of your ancestors, and use every method you can think of.

Here's an outline for an All Out Divining Session that has all the bells and whistles, so you can see what's what.

First, clean out a big space to divine on. My working altar isn't big enough for lenormand spreads and I don't feel comfortable casting stones on the surface of it because it's a family heirloom, so I clean the big open section of floor in from of the altar.

Cleanse the room you're divining in, check and reinvigorate the wards if necessary. Absolutely nothing is getting in except what I want there.

Spread a fresh cloth to lay your tools on and gather your materials, preparing all of your divining tools. If they need reblessed, reblooded, cleaned or fixed, now is the time to prepare them.

Ready yourself. If you want ritual purity before you directly petition someone for aid in your divination, now is the time to become pure. Change clothes, bless yourself, pray for clarity and Sight, drink your mugwort tea or inhale your Seer's sage smoke.

Cast a circle, light the candles. Invoke whoever is most relevant to the divination: Ancestors, deities, spirits, the holy dead, whoever. Ask them to help you See.

Divine. Go through every method you have one by one. Take your time and go over every omen.

TAKE NOTES. I have a draft book just for this purpose. As I divine I write down just the results of the divination, like drawing a tower out of my tarot deck. If any little revelations come to me, I jot them down. Then, on the next couple of pages, I write down what each thing means, like that the tower means sudden change and misfortune. Then write down what each piece of divination might signal in your life, and a few different ways combining all of these omens might work out- pick the scenario you think is most likely.

Come back to your notes when the whole situation is over and see if any of your predictions were correct. Where did you go wrong or right? Which portents did you read correctly? How did all of the pieces fit together? Reflecting on your past predictions will make you a better diviner.

Not all of these steps are necessary, they're really just the basis of how far you can go. Some gods don't need ritual purity before approaching them, some methods of divining may be left out because they won't be helpful. If you don't plan on petitioning anyone to help you divine or give you their wisdom, you probably don't need to be as stringent about being presentable and safe (though I really reccomend bringing in an entity of some kind because those divining sessions can be crazy good). You don't need to take narcotics to See. This is an outline, not a checklist.

Above all, keep trying! Your first couple of sessions might be confusing or disappointing, but you will get better with every whisper of the fates!

Unsure how to interpret your cast stones? Pull a line of bibliomancy to get an extra anecdote.

Can’t figure out what the role of the figure you keep seeing in your dream work plays in your life? Maybe pull from the Major Arcana.

Look at your transits for the overarcing situation then look to cartomancy for advice.

Hello Tarot Friends! So I’ve had some lovely opportunities to teach tarot over on discord, and one of the questions I notice most often is how to read court cards. While I do agree that they can be a bit trickier than the rest of the deck, they aren’t too bad if you think of them as one of three possibilities. This is how I understand and read with court cards. I hope this little info graph can help someone out at least a little! Maybe a little later on I will create something that goes into each court card more in depth.

Also, please keep in mind that this is only my own personal reading preference for court cards. Their are so many different possibilities. If you read them a different way and that’s working for you, then that’s perfectly ok.
