One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

On 14th and 15th of March, students from the University of Leeds are putting on an independent production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, adapted for stage by Dale Wasserman. Look here for photos and information about our rehearsal period, fundraisers, and other exciting bits of news.

Apologies for the belated post, but two weeks ago we held our fundraiser at LS6 Cafe on Hyde Park Corner.

The event comprised of an open mic, a raffle and a bake sale, and was a huge success. Fun was had, and more importantly we raised lots of money to help purchase props and costume.

Several members of the cast and both of our directors performed, with highlights including Dave Reeson's acoustic version of Britney Spears' Toxic, and director Alex's Johnny Cash impression.

Sunday was our first cast social, with drinking games at Alex's followed by a live band and lots of dancing at Hifi's Sunday Joint in Leeds city centre.

Since my last post we have fully cast the show! Tonight was the read through, and even just hearing the characters speak has started to bring the play to life, and it is going to be great. Alex, Jenny and I are incredibly excited to be working with every one of the lovely people pictured above.

With our next rehearsal not until next week, we need to start thinking about fundraisers, as producing the play independently has meant we are currently budget-less, which is fairly daunting. If you have any ideas, send them our way!

Hello all!

The first round of auditions is over and with much difficulty we have finally selected people for callbacks tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who turned up, the level of talent was incredible and we wish we could cast all of you! Surprisingly, the men far outnumbered the women, which is a rarity in the world of university theatre.

Alex Hargreaves and Jenny Lucas, our directors, have been busy selecting extracts for the final round of auditions, while I get excited over stationary and trek through the snow to buy biscuits to keep our energy up.

If all goes to plan, in just over 24 hours we'll have a cast and can get stuck into rehearsals. I can't wait.
