a (moderately) easy brownie recipe for chocolate loving regressors! 🍫
note: as easy as these are to make, they do require using the oven, so make sure to safely use the oven when taking them in and out, or ask someone for help!
please do not be intimidated by the length or wordiness of the post! i just feel the need to overexplain
full disclosure this isn’t really a “recipe”, it’s a box mix with substitutions and add ons to make it waywayway better than average brownie mix!
ive been baking for a long time now and have made this many many many times and its always a hit, so if you need any credentials….. yea
your brownie mix of choice
melted butter or margarine (amount dependent on your box mix)
milk (amount dependent on your box mix)
eggs (amount dependent on your box mix)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
1 tablespoon espresso powder (optional)
other add-ins of your choice (optional of course)
if you’re more familiar with baking, feel free to mess around with different amounts, but im keeping this simple with safe amounts!
substituting box mix ingredients 🥛
like i said, use your favorite brownie mix! but for the sake of simplicity and instructions, ill use the betty crocker fudge brownie mix for this recipe
the recipe says to use 1/2 cup of oil and 3 tablespoons of water, but in order to get the best results, we’re going to use melted butter or melted margarine instead of oil, and white milk instead of water! the number of eggs will stay the same
to break up the block of text,
for this box mix we’ll need 1/2 cup of melted butter/margarine, three tablespoons of milk, and two eggs!
step… zero lol: preheat your oven, to see what temperature you’ll need see the next section
step one: one stick of butter or margarine is 1/2 cup, so for this recipe, take one stick and put it in a bowl, then microwave for 1 minute, afterwards put it in the fridge for only 3-5 minutes, to avoid it becoming solid again
step two: put your box mix in a large mixing bowl, then add your milk and eggs, once your butter/margarine is melted down and cooled, add it in too
step three: add in your salt and vanilla, and give it a mix, but if you have other things to mix in, don’t mix it completely yet!
step four: add your chocolate chips and/or espresso powder in this step if you’ll be using them, you’ll also put in your other add-ins, and continue to mix, but be careful not to overmix! it should look slightly grainy and not completely smooth
the bake time and oven heat will also vary depending on your mix and your pan size! these are the instructions for our mix
for dense and fudgy but not too raw results, i try to go for a lower mid range on the times, but if you prefer a loose brownie or a cakey brownie, feel free to bake on the lower or higher end, or maybe even a little less or a little more (just don’t go crazy and risk burning them!)
pour your brownie mix into a well sprayed or buttered pan, put some chocolate chips or desired add-ons on top if you’d like, and put it in the oven for your needed time!
this step isn’t at all required, but after taking them out of the oven i like to SLAM them on the counter a few times, this levels them out
afterwards, leave them sitting on the counter for AT LEAST 30 minutes! things continue to bake for several minutes after they’re out of the oven!
after the wait, there’s nothing left to do than cut into them and enjoy!
brookies - use cookie dough (premade and homemade are both fine ofc) and layer it in the brownie pan during assembly however you’d like (or use brookie box mix!)
peanut butter brownies - you can either accomplish this by microwaving peanut butter for around 30 seconds then swirling in spoonfuls to the batter once in the pan, or by using peanut butter chips!
s’mores brownies - line up the bottom of your brownie pan with graham crackers before pouring your batter, after you pour your batter add marshmallows to the top!
caramel brownies - you can accomplish this via adding caramel sauce to your batter, swirling in caramel sauce to the batter in the pan, or adding caramel chips to the batter (or you can use salted caramel brownie mix!)
cosmic brownies - this one is a little more difficult because you’ll have to make a chocolate ganache, but the baking process will be the same, then afterwards you’ll spread the ganache on top and sprinkle on rainbow candy chips!
trashcan brownies - sweet and salty lovers, this is for you! mix potato chips, butterscotch chips, pretzels, m&ms, or other desired add ins to the mix and on top
happy baking, friends! 🍽️
