aaah i love knowing the orginal meaning of the thaursday line🥹 ive always wondered, if his little poem before every trial was translated differently because of wordplay too. i also always think about kirigiri saying he sounds like an aspiring poet lol, i do think they carried over him being super poetic in his thoughts to english though :)

As for Makoto's 'inner poet', I do also think it's translated well into English for the most part. I looked up some of his 'poetic' lines from the top of my head:

If you're inspecting the cherry blossoms in the Dojo during Chapter 6, one of his lines goes:

Cherry blossoms make me think of flower viewing, but to be honest, I prefer girls over flowers...

In the Japanese transcript, there's a small difference:

お花見って言えば桜…でもボクは花より団子だな… When you say "hanami", you think of cherry blossoms... but honestly, I prefer dango over flowers.

He's referencing a Japanese idiom - 花より団子, or dango/dumplings over flowers. It means "practicality over aesthetic" and is often used in context of people coming to hanami mainly for the food and drinks instead of viewing the beautiful blossoms.

Why the decision to change 'dango' to 'girls'? I looked into it and realised the English text was likely referencing the shoujo manga, Boys Over Flowers (花より男子).

About ao3, I deleted my account after being troubled over that story for a long time. I wrote it when I was young with half-baked ideas and nearly no plan. As I've grown, I attempted a few times to revamp it but I've fallen out of love for it. It was painful to even look at it, with all my old ideas and old art, that I made the rash decision to delete it all.

Do you remember this line? He says this when you examine the sauna during Chapter 6 at some point.

Y-Ya know, if you pronounced "Thursday" like "Thaursday"…that'd be kinda funny…

It seems kinda nonsensical, doesn't it? Yet strangely funny.

However, in the Japanese transcript, his line goes like this.

も、木曜日を… もきゅ曜日って言うと… かわいらしいな… If you call Thursday... "Mokyu-day"... it sounds kinda cute.

He's just playing on the word for Thursday, 木曜日 (mokuyôbi), by using mokyu, a Japanese onomatopoeia for cute things.
