sometimes you have to put your little guy in the Horrible Situation Factory so he can grow. i’m sorry little guy. it’s for the plot.
“Years ago a friend of mine had a dream about a strange invention; a staircase you could descend deep underground, in which you heard recordings of all the things anyone had ever said about you, both good and bad. The catch was, you had to pass through all the worst things people had said before you could get to the highest compliments at the very bottom. There is no way I would ever make it more than two and a half steps down such a staircase, but I understand its terrible logic: if we want the rewards of being loved we have to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known.”
— I Know What You Think of Me, Tim Kreider for the New York Times
after YEARS of seeing this quote online and finding it to be the most deeply and resoundingly profound writing i finally found the source article and absolutely nothing could prepare me for this opening paragraph
Okay but the whole article is really interesting and also contains this quote which I’ve never heard before but really like:
“Anyone worth knowing is inevitably also going to be exasperating”
Sometimes you get a brief glimpse into the American worldview and decide that you don't want to know.
I cannot stress enough that this meme is entirely literal. there's no reference or subtext you don't know. these are simply the objectively most popular works of art from each denomination.
hi yeah i found out recently that the popular caramelldansen (you know. the one you know.) is actually a fucking nightcore remix and this is the original
forbidden knowledge
Caramelldansen is the ultimate relic of the past because it wasn’t just a meme song it was a Nightcore remix meme song that got even more popular than the original.
Even darker secret knowledge the original dance also isn’t that version either. Most can see the original dance in the background of a scene in Fast&Furious: Tokyo Drift.
It’s not Nightcore, it predates Nightcore. The term you are looking for is Speedycake. After the late* DJ Speedycake.
The dance used in the vast number of 2d anime-esque caramelldansen vids has nothing to do with Caramell; it came from a gif on 4chan referred to as “Popotan dance” that started as fanart of an adult visual novel because of course it did. Speedycake was making his remixes at the same time as people were making popotan dance gifs of everything, and the memes converged into a compound supermeme that swept the internet.
The video above is yet another fan-made video, using 12 characters from the iDOLM@STER series. (Hint: the band that created the song is Swedish, so anything obviously Japanese did not come from them).
The first official video released by Caramell was this version, six years after the song was first released and two years after it started to spread as a meme:
fucking terrifying how deep this rabbit hole goes
DJ SPEEDYCAKE IS FUCKING DEAD?!
According to his Twitter he’s just as surprised to learn he’s dead as we are
“You need to believe in things that aren’t true. How else can they become” - Hogfather, Terry Pratchett
gnomes in a tree stump weeping with guilt as they turn their lollipops in the keyholes to arm and launch the intercontinental ballistic thistle
their commanding gnofficer standing behind them with a pine needle saying he won't hesitate to gnexecute them for defying a direct gnorder
immigrants are stealing your social security benefits and stealing jobs and ruining the country? well, yeah, but it’s just one. and his name is Elon Musk
"Average immigrant steals 2 American jobs and thousands of dollars a year" factoid is actually just a statistical error. Apartheid Nepo Elon, who steals millions of jobs and billions of dollars, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
cop: can you describe the woman who stabbed you
male author: lithe, spirited, outgoing, and not afraid to speak her mind. she was a raw sexual force and she knew it. she was dandelion fluff on a summer day, gone in an instant, leaving you with nothing but the memory of her touch and the faint taste of strawberries on your lips
cop: great we have a motive, but we still need a description
PSA: tumblr user littlefuckinmonster is stealing human bones from cemeteries in Louisiana. Please don’t let them get away with this and spread the word/signal boost!
this post is officially a decade old now
For anyone who wasnt around when this happened, this was real. Littlefuckinmonster was actually stealing bones from cemeteries. She is the bone stealing witch. She was specifically stealing bones from poor people. She was arrested for it.
Not only did the user in question get arrested, but 4 months later, the state legislature passed the Louisiana Human Remains Protection and Control Act, created specifically because people heard about this case and realized there weren’t any clear laws about who has what right to own human remains and who enforces those rights.
“the council has passed a law against the bone-stealing witch” sentences that would actually be very easy to explain to a medieval peasant
Kinda surprised how many different animals can be black and tan
i love "bump uglies" as a euphemism for sex. like yes put that gross in my yuck and squarsh it
One time I was leaving a friend's place and an older lady with basically no English came up to me and communicated that she was very cold and needed a ride. She pointed to tell me where to go.
I got there and her daughter or granddaughter came out and was like omg her phone died we were worried
And then the older lady said something and the younger lady translated.
"She knew she could trust you because you have pink hair"
I thought it was funny at the time. But when I think back on it I think she was basically saying "you had a visible sign of not vibing with the system I was afraid of"
Be weird. Be colorful. Help random people.
this is actually so funny jackbox said go get jokes
