HC Ramble, Love in the Clouds Pt. 1
On my second rewatch and the scene after Ji Bozai was healed from Heavenly Grief and Ming Yi confronts him about the secrets he kept from her, made me think; what if the vicious cycle of lies between Ji Bozai & Ming Yi leads Ji Bozai into hiding the solution to stop the Sky Swallowing Array from Ming Yi. Like, guys, hear out my thesis:
I believe even after Ji Bozai found out that Ming Yi is Ming Xian and that she was dying and thus needed the Golden Millet Dream to survive, the scars left from her second betrayal were still there. Discovering his master was the reason he ended up in the Sunken Abyss might‘ve rippen them open again (yet another person whom he fully trusted but who betrayed him).
Thus, this goddamn idiot possibly goes like: It’s only her and me who are at the needed Transcendent Stage to stop the Sky-Swallowing Array and it’s clear that one of us must die to succeed in doing so. She is rightfully surrounded by people who love, trust and support her: Her companion beast is revived; she found her true father, has her friend Zhang Tai and the chosen warriors of Shouhua Academy at her back and now knows that her mother also loved her. She’s set up for an awesome life, and she deserves to enjoy it to her fullest. Between us, I’m the more expandable, so I’m the only one who can do this. While she loves me and will try to save me at any cost, because that’s the kind of amazing person she is, I as an individual am not essential to her. Not in the way she is to me. Otherwise, why would she not have confided into me and instead stolen the Golden Millet Dream behind my back? Breaking my trust all over again, when I had fully opened up to her and chosen to believe in her? Why would she have considered her survival and trusting me as opposed to each other? It all indicates that, when it comes down to it, she’s capable of living her awesome life without me (which in this case might actually be a good thing). She will find someone else she’s willing to lean onto and get support from in tough times, because again she deserves only the best. If I openly tell her, she’ll have to make a choice between me and her life all over again, so this time I’ll make that call for her sake.
The initial lie, with which Ming Yi approached Ji Bozai (even if very understandable in context) led them both into a vicious cycle and they’re still caught in it even at this point of time. Then Ming Yi tells Ji Bozai honestly and frankly, that she will not find anyone else but Ji Bozai, that when she first approached him, she had ulterior motives, but even as that changed, she couldn’t tell him because of her initial lie, that their misunderstandings and secrets made them miss out so much and that’s why she doesn’t want to regret anything anymore, so please let’s not try to solve problems alone anymore but overcome them together. That and telling Ji Bozai she wants to live with him restores his full belief into her and her actions (the flashbacks) and he can finally let go of any and all conscious or unconscious doubts about their relationship and embrace it wholeheartedly again. In this way Ming Yi successfully purges that cycle she started and breaks them out of it for once and for all.
I think it's kinda poetic, lol.
Naturally, Ming Yi still absolutely has the right to be fucking angry about this decision from Ji Bozai and not forgive him so easily.
Or well, maybe the cycle was only truly broken, after both of them apologized to each other at last (Ji Bozai, that immature brat, finally grew up to have a mouth to apologize 🤣)
