Investing in a higher nation
Colorado just took some brave steps in becoming the first state to allow truly legal, recreational marijuana dispensaries. These dispensaries will be selling smaller amounts of weed to locals and visitors to the state alike. Further, the marijuana sold at these dispensaries will be tracked from seed to sale… something regular pot smokers concerned with their long term health have been waiting for.. forever.
There were 8 stores that opened up this morning at 8 am, MST. There were many more that we’re approved to open and will at a later date. This is commerce, and the other states are paying close attention. California really should have been the first to do this and I only hold on to a few sour grapes that we didn’t…. just a few. But, congratulations to the good people of Colorado and Washington for doing the hard work necessary to make it happen, and provide a good example for the rest of us.
Money is the reason for the rhyme. With all this LEGAL commerce happening, and with only a very slight chance the nasty Feds will come in and mess with your freedom, investing in the marijuana industry is beginning to sound more interesting to many investors. Not just stoners like myself.
Our company owns a very little amount of PHOT, the ticker symbol for GrowLife Inc. We know this company well, as we’ve done work for them and been friendly for years now. (We just built http://cannabis.org for them… We’re really proud of it. Check it out, I’ll wait)
It was a nice introduction in to the stock market. We / I had never owned, bought or sold any amount of stock, penny or otherwise. We got 137,300 shares @ about 4 cents each. 6 months later those shares we got for about $3K are now worth about $22K or 15 cents a share.
Did we get lucky? Maybe, but I’ve always heard you should invest in what you know, and if we know anything, it’s marijuana. It’s our contention, that if given the same commercial freedom, MJ has every opportunity to rake in big-alcohol or big-tobacco kind of money. That doesn’t mean I’d like to see big-MJ go the exact same route as the others, but out of the black market is a nice move we can all agree on.
