Hermione pushed a curtain of hair out of her face and blew out a breath of a sigh that felt as though it lasted it forever. She’d been cleaning the house all day so she could put together a new bookcase in the room she’d made into an office.
“I’m not confident it will end Harry! This thing is awful and the directions don’t even work, who makes directions that don’t work!” She huffed and threw the paper booklet on the ground.

Secrets are strange for her, her family was very open with feelings and how they interacted with each other. So growing up Hermione didn’t see the need for many secrets from her parents at least. She never did tell them much about the Wix world, however, some part of her just knew that it wouldn’t go well to let them know about the vast differences and dangers. But now that she’s an adult and on her own, she feels strange about her parents. She misses them, yes but on some level, she can’t find it in her to feel regret about erasing herself from their memories.

ron hadn’t thought he would get sick of being cooped up in a hospital bed that fast, but hours after waking up he was already going stir crazy in spite of the burns covering his side. it had taken him a few moments to get himself up, but he made his way out of the hospital room as quickly as he could managed, making a sharp turn around the corner.
Hermione raced her way through the halls of the hospital as fast as she could. She needed to see Ron. Right now. After the war, more like seeing Ron laid out on the forest floor, Harry being carried by Hagrid, she felt such crippling anxiety inside of herself whenever she thought about her friends even getting hurt in a slight amount. To say that her insides were twisted up in knots and her throat closed up at the very idea of Ron being burned.
She barged into his room only to discover it to be empty, with a heavy gasp of agony she wildly looked around the hall causing her hair to fly around her. Where was he?! Did they take him for more scanning? Did that idiotic man leave already? Her anxiety increased but so did her fury. If he was skipping out she’d kill ‘im herself!

to be alone , comfortable in her own company , weaving though bustling cobblestone as she’d manoeuvred into shop after shop , was something in which hannah had excelled at. she herself had learned that , whether she’d grown used to it or not , that everyone had families to return to , significant others to wander the world with , and she had only ever had the static silence within her head . it was easier this way , better this way . a constant reminder of that every person you’d let in , every person who saw past the thickened layer of doubt and dark under eyes , was a person who you could lose .
it’s the curiosity that bites at her heels that causes her to turn into the apothecary , a morbid wonder as if in another life she’d frequent here more so than anywhere else . fresh scent of brews washes over her senses , and hannah cannot help but allow shoulders to fall , a veil of blonde curls masking her features as she enters . students had come and gone , surely sorted and settled into their houses with their new cauldrons courtesy of slug & jiggers . and she , well , here she was , light footfalls carrying her across the floor before gaze falls upon a familiar face . it’s a small sigh that escapes her , a selfishness within her that yearns to turn around . yet , she perseveres if only to save face , to remain in good graces .
“hermione –– “ her tone is laced with surprise , honey suckle sweetness dripping as eyes surely sparkle. in an old fashion , she finds herself much more like the hannah the world had once known , the one they’d remained blissfully unaware that had faded like a scar . “ fancy seein’ you here . would’ve thought the ministry was holdin’ you up in your office night n’ day ! ”
Hermione almost dropped the potions periodical in sheer surprise, well dropped was a mild word since she almost flung it in the others face. Blood darkened the skin of her cheeks as she flushed in embarrassment and clutched the thick booklet to her chest once she recovered enough to think about doing that.
“Hannah!”
Pulse rushing in her ears she gave Hannah a flustered smile before it melted into what she liked to call her publicity smile. Something fake but not plastic in feel. Not that Hermione was unhappy to see Hannah but tunning into people when she wasn’t expecting it left her feeling slightly paranoid still even when they were a familiar face.
It was strange she thought, so many people that had fought in the war or grew up around it had some of the best masks to cover the feels or thoughts they felt before they could ever show upon their faces. Was that an unseen part of the war, to be able to hide out of self-preservation even though things were safer?
“Ha! I hold myself in the office more than Kingsley does, half the time he begs me to go home so he can get a break.” Shit, well shouldn’t have said that probably. She gave another laugh to brush off the awkwardness. “How’ve you been?”

“i don’t get it,” the thunk of the book hitting the table punctuates his words, hand remaining splayed over the cover of the book harry had borrowed from hermione, “it just - ends like that?” there’s a mixture of confusion and light outrage coloring his voice and he slumps forward a few inches. his glasses are just slightly askew on his nose and he stares at her with an intense look, lips pressed together and brows furrowed. “you didn’t tell me it ends like that.” @onlyhjgranger
Hermione uncovered the pastry container and quickly took a bite before asking, “Get what? it's a wonderful storyline!” She genuinely loved the obscure parts of it and wished that the story was longer. But Harry's reaction had her hiding a small grin as she took another bite. His precious face had his emotions concerning the ending was so plainly written there that a giggle just slipped out of her. “Sorry, but I can’t share spoilers! Did you like most of it though?”
Music pumped through the amplifications spells causing the walls and floors to pulsate almost from the bass. The outfits were more daring on the half-blood and muggle-borns than the purebloods, since they had likely seen the muggle world version of clubbing at one point or another. This? This was by far the strangest but oddly fascinating blend of the two worlds Hermione had a foot in. A baffled smile kept overtaking her lips are she stood on the edge of the crowd of people.
When she was younger she’d taken classical dancing lessons --waltz, foxtrot, and more. But the way people were able to trash about gave her a pause, she’d been able to be carefree at the Yule Ball with Viktor but it seemed that was all his doing since she couldn’t seem to bring herself to do that tonight. Maybe it was because she hadn’t seen anyone she knew yet? Either way, she was to the side and safely drinking a bubbling glass of the clubs specialty drink. The club wasn’t large but with so many people her age packed into it this week, it sure was amazing to see. No one seemed to give a shit about anything but the music and the good times.

It felt like a graveyard. What used to be a bustling business has now crashed but hasn’t yet burned. Yet. Two years later and the Ministry was still behind on repairs from the damages the Second War caused. But it didn’t come as a surprise to Zach, he thought as he walked through the lobby, the echo if his footsteps loud in the relatively empty establishment. People were still on edge, though You-Know-Who’s body was in the ground and Potter had made it known how he was able to come back the first time. Zach’s hand instinctively went to his forearm. Shame swelled in his chest, but that part of his life was over now. Or was it?
Zach entered an Elevator, a frown etched deep on to his mouth, thoughts swimming inside his head. Kingsley had provided him a job, so didn’t he deserve to be here? In this skeleton of a government? He was brought out of his thoughts as someone entered the elevator to accompany him and although Zach didn’t think it was possible to frown more deeply, he had. “Granger,” he acknowledged her, though his tone could have been less clipped. After her and her friends destroyed not only the Ministry but Hogwarts as well, they had saved the world. Still, it wasn’t like they were exactly close before that.
There were some curses that honestly sounded so much better to her when not using wizarding slang and fuck was definitely one of them. Coincidentally that word was all that ran through her head when she saw Zacharias Smith entering the lift with her. That pompous prick drove her up the wall at Hogwarts, she’d never been able to stand people who were so smug about everything but especially those so smug about being pureblood. And if Smith didn’t brag about his bloodline, his looks, or any achievements then you'd know it was an imposter because the man just wasn’t pleasant. At least not in her opinion.
“Smith.” Biting her tongue she glanced over a few of the papers in her arms. Even while reading she kept herself hyper-aware, something about him just never had her fully at ease. Hermione paused to reread the page she had been looking at while humming under her breath when her realizations about the budgets were correct, folding the edge of the paper over to remember to bring it up to ministers attention. The lift jolted harshly as it came to a stop on the mail floor.

It was difficult at first - even now, half a year in in - for Susan to walk the same corridors her aunt had. To be in the place that she gave her life to. Though she was newly placed in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, after putting it off and assisting in various departments, she still found herself offering her time to whoever needed it. This morning she held documents close to her chest, having fetched them for an old family friend who worked in the Department of International Magical Cooperation. Maybe she was avoiding the second floor, and maybe it wasn’t the right thing to do - but it was a work in progress. It doesn’t get easier, her mum had told her, but you learn to adjust. The sound of people entering the lift shortly after she stepped in pulled her thoughts, glancing up to find a familiar face quickly joining. “Hermione,” she greeted, a small smile pulling at her lips, “good morning.” Seeing her fellow Hogwarts alumni often relieved Susan, reminding her she technically wasn’t alone in all of this as she felt. She hoped she hadn’t looked as tired as she was, but nowadays it seemed it was easier to get by when everyone looked the same. After all, she realized that The Brightest Witch of Their Age probably had many other things attracting her attention. “How are things with The Minister?”
Today was going to be great damn it or so help her Hermione just might send a severing hex at the next idiot that said taxes needed to be lower for those only in the upper echelon of wizarding society. That was one of the reasons the Voldemort won in the first place, people hadn’t been created equally. And today's Wizagamot vote could sway things in Kingsley's platforms goals. It was bullshit but at least she had all of the files on hand for the historical proof of why this didn’t work --both muggle and magical!
She used wingardium to float a couple of packets out in front of her as she held the others and stepped into the lift, this might just help her read a few as she rode it down to the courts. Hermione couldn’t withhold her gasp of surprise when she heard her name and peeped her head ot from behind the papers. “Susan! How’re you?” Quickly grasped her wand in her crowded arms she cast the counter and caught the papers while giving the other her attention.
“Sorry, there’s a meeting in just a little while and I was trying to prep a bit more last minute! I’m well, just,” She paused briefly, ”---busy. Too busy honestly. Even after a year, there's still so much to do and it feels like there's far too little time. What have you been doing? I sometimes see you in the halls, I’m sorry we haven’t talked sooner!”

Hermione stifled another yawn behind her hand as she squeezed past the flowing crowd of people. She hated that to get to her flat she had to go through Diagon Alley after work. It was always so busy now that people had started to feel safer. Which was a good thing don’t get her wrong but MERLIN if it wasn’t exhausting sometimes!
Shuffling her way past what looking to be an overbearing mother clucking at her gaggle of young children Hermione ducked into Slug & Jiggers and couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. The place was close to empty at this hour and after the day she’d had it felt amazing to be able to just get what she wanted and hopefully leave.
Walking quickly through the aisle until she reached the new potions weekly magazines, she flipped through until she got to the new discoveries section. Hermione quickly became absorbed in the world of potions and knew the shop keeper probably would understand considering she did this everytime the periodical was published before she’d ask to talk to the brewer so she could debate. Some part of her wished that she actually knew a potions master simply to debate the ingredients and how things had to be made. Was instinct or tried-and-true method better?

Hermione remembers her first snowfall at Hogwarts because of the peace that came with it. She can remember the quiet that spread through the dorm and the way the wind hushed, a difference from the way it tended to whip around the tower on the colder nights. She crept out of bed that night, careful not to disturb her dorm mates quiet snoring and went to the window by her bed. Sitting down she had placed her hand against the chilled glass. The snow was drifting lazily down from the sky and owls occasionally flew out behind the tower.
Hogwarts was beautiful in the snow.

boggart: what’s your biggest fear?
Currently, Hermione's biggest fear is failure combined with the idea that her work will never be finished. She feels that if she doesn’t work harder than ever before, including when her life was constantly on the line, she will let those around her down. That if she doesn’t work hard enough, fast enough, wix society will fall back into the pureblood dogma that seems all too easy for those around her to fall into. Her biggest fear is that her work will never end.
dementor: do you want to kiss anyone?
She wants to kiss a few people actually. Hermione may have a difficult time expressing romantic emotions sometimes but that doesn’t mean her exploration of her sexuality isn’t alive and well. She looked at the people in her year and felt a yearning but didn’t know how to express herself due to always feeling so tense from school and well the war. As such she’s been hesitant to even express herself this way. As of right now she is so wrapped up in work that she doesn’t know if she’s coming or going.
