"Is it a sign of my questionable character that this is probably the least violent friendship-meeting I have ever had?"  Karolina laughed lightly, running her fingers through her hair for a second before following along at his side.

"Clumsylina would be a-okay!  And I’ll just call you that-David-guy-who-is-now-caramel-macchiato-flavored.  Actually… no… that was bad…"  She heaved a sigh, obviously not sure if her humor was alright or totally out there today.  "Consider your noisy neighbors missing.  I’ll get on it right away.  It’s been a while since I’ve gotten in a good…er… axe-murdering."  Yeah, no.  That was also bad.  Maybe she would do better to find something non-murder related to talk about.

Luckily, David’s phone conversation gave her enough time to think about what else she could say.  She returned his smile when he hung up, and locked her hands behind her back.  ”Cool!  So we’ll head back to your place, you can throw on a shirt that doesn’t smell delicious, and then I can take you out for a replacement bagel!  Then you can get to work and pretend that no weirdo chick ruined your morning.  Sound fair?”

"Nah, more like a sign of the times.  I think... we've all had our fair share of violent meet ups, these days."  He wouldn't press that point, because he'd be lying if he said he'd always had the most smooth experiences with befriending people.  Especially... recently.  A thought ran through his head and he had to dig his nails into his hand to stop from thinking about it, a strange empty feeling settling into his heart momentarily.

"That's a pretty long nickname," he observed with a smile, trying not to laugh at her over compensation.  She was friendly and easy to get along with.  She'd make for good company for a while.  Maybe getting some coffee spilled on him wasn't so bad, after all.  "How about you just call me David for short?"

Slipping his phone back into his pocket, he nodded, "Sounds like a plan, although for the record... you didn't ruin my morning.  In the grand scheme of things, you probably improved it.  This beats work any day, trust me."

He sure as hell ain’t wrong, that’s literally all they did to him throughout the entirety of New X-Men. And it’s STILL like that - it’s still nearly always about the adult X-Men and THEIR bullshit politics, rather than the lives, happiness and well-being of the kids who look up to and depend on them. He has a lot of good reason to hate the X-Men and strike out on his own, and I love how they’ve been dealing with this in YA so far.

I think in terms of RP, a little trigger warning goes a long way.  It least demonstrates a knowledge of the severity of the topic they're getting into.  If someone can't understand why certain content might be upsetting to people, they really need to get themselves sorted.

No links necessary--it makes sense that the more lightly people treat the topic, the more 'normal' rapists think it is.  No one is doing the issue any favors by making jokes and perpetuating the sort of thinking that makes people place the blame on victims.

I as well have a problem with sexual or gendered violence being used for entertainment, or as a throw away plot device.  I think that it's important to remember that while we are writing whatever we write for our own enjoyment/whatever, there are still plenty of people around us who see what we post.

Karolina grimaced, and shoved the napkins back in her purse, before laughing just slightly.  ”I’d say that I’m having a hard time imagining something worse than having a caramel macchiato dumped all over your chest by a stranger but…I’m pretty sure I’ve had worse, too.”

Reaching out, she accepted his hand and gave it a friendly shake.  ”I’m Karolina.  But you’re more than free to call me ‘clumsy’ after that stunning display I made.”  She motioned the way he’d pointed, “If you’ll lead the way, I’ll trail along.  I promise not to axe murder you or anything.  I mean… usually I might consider it, but today I think that would just add insult to injury.”  She really hoped the joking tone came across well, because she’d been making enough of a fool of herself today without adding ‘implicating yourself as an axe murderer’ to the list.

"See?  We've both had worse, no harm no foul.  Still.  Guess it's one way to make friends."  He shrugged.

"I think Karolina will do just fine--Clumsylina, maybe?  But that just seems rude."  His tone was light, and he tossed her a side glance with a smile, "I appreciate you making the concession for me today--being axe murdered on top of having my shirt stained might be just a little bit too intense for me.  I've got some loud neighbors, though, if you're really feeling the urge.  Can't say I'd mind if a few of them went missing."  David fished in his pocket for a second and whipped out his phone, pressing a speed dial before holding a finger up to Karolina, as if asking for a spare minute.

"Hey, it's David.  Going to be a little late today... yeah.  Yeah.  No, I'm sure you guys can manage without me.  Like... two, three hours, tops?  Mmmhm.  Thanks."  He flipped the phone closed and then looked back to her with a smile, "We're all clear."
