what if the jellicle moon is the eye of the everlasting cat .. thats why the cats have to wait for a full moon to have the ball and make the jellicle choice, theyre waiting for the everlasting cat to fully open their eye to overlook the ceremony..

also like to imagine that macavity lives in a secluded dark and shadowy part of the junkyard. hes hiding from the light of the jellicle moon/the eye of the everlasting cat because he's disgraced and doesnt want to be seen by them

maybe for a short while after demeter got away from macavity she tried to stick to the shadows and hide from the light too.. feeling this sort of misplaced guilt for having ever trusted him. felt like he "tainted" her if that makes sense...

takes a little while but bomba and munk are able to reassure her that Its Not Her fault at All and that the everlasting cat knows and is forgiving and that she is loved <3

That's an interesting idea when you also compare Grizabella with Macavity.

Grizabella escaped from the tribe years ago but she ends up swallowing her pride and stepping into the Jellicle Ball once again, she wants to be seen by the tribe and the Everlasting Cat, she wants to be forgiven and accepted once again.

Now I'm thinking that Old Deut wasn't the only one who saw Grizabella sing during Act 1, the Everlasting Cat saw her too, they probably saw how hurtful and full of guilt she was and it influenced Old Deut's decision to choose her. And also in "Memory" there's a lot of mentions of the moon and the moonlight.

On the other side Macavity hides, he's in the shadows and even takes away the light from the tribe at the end of his fight with Munkustrap and when he appears, the scenario turns dark and red. In the end, it doesn't matter what he does or if he raptures the leader or the light from the tribe, he's disgraced and he's never gonna be seen by the Everlasting Cat.

While Grizabella looks for redemption, Macavity hides from it.
