Elsa had returned to Arendelle earlier than expected. Friday game nights were a regular tradition, but her showing up on a Wednesday morning was incredibly odd.
She headed straight towards the study. Anna was in the middle of important documents, her head resting on her hand willing herself to stay awake.
She was shaken from surprise seeing her sister standing in front of her.
“Elsa! Are you ok? Why are you here? I mean…I’m glad you’re here! But what’s going on?” Anna stumbled over her words in both excitement in seeing her sister, and fear of something wrong.
“When was the last time you slept?” Elsa got straight to the point.
“When was the last time you slept?” Elsa couldn’t ignore the bags under Anna’s eyes and how worn she looked.
“It’s fine, Elsa! There’s so much to do…”
“You need to take care of yourself…and not run yourself into the ground trying to take care of everyone and everything else. You can’t be everything for everyone.” The irony of her statement did not escape Elsa.
Anna simply stared with an almost defiant look. “You are really one to talk.”
“We aren’t talking about me.” Elsa stated with a dismissive wave of her hand. “Go to sleep…I can help you finish here.”
“I’m fine, Elsa….wait, how did you know of my sleep pattern anyway?”
“You mean lack of sleep pattern?” As if on cue, Gale blew through the room.
“Gale!” Anna shouted. “Stop being such a tattle tale!”
Elsa gave a sly smile, being the fifth spirit and connection had its benefits.
“Go to sleep, Anna…you need to rest.”
Exhausted from the long night (and the many sleepless nights before), Anna stopped fighting.
Elsa led the younger girl to bed and began to sing, “Where the north wind meets the sea…” Before she even reached the second verse, Anna was fast asleep.
