Another woman diagnosed at 31 accepting I’ve been profoundly hurt my entire life. Grieving what could have been. Trying to love me. Fighting to understand. Happy everything has an explanation. That was a roller coaster to read, huh? Lots of twists n’ what not. Imagine how I feel.

I listened to Good Days immediately after my diagnosis and basically every day since. It’s been one of my favorite songs for so long, and I feel so many things about my diagnosis that I’m still processing. “Tell me I’m not my fears my limitations I disappear if you let me.” is such a comforting lyric.

I don’t understand this “more adult level 1 diagnoses are taking resources away from level 3 children and adults!” rhetoric. And that we’re all just mentally ill. The Atlantic even wrote an entire article about it. Y’all know that….we have to sit in a room with a doctor for hours while they test our brain? Right? My processing is literally so shot that it affects every part of my life and my body. That’s the kind of information (just one of many things) in a report that changes people’s lives instead of just hating ourselves because simple things are so damn hard. You know I’ve been called “short bus” and also “gifted”? What?

I’m not taking anything from higher support needs children and adults and refuse to be gaslit that I am. I am seeing the ONE therapist in my town who specializes in ASD in female-identifying people. And I go to an autistic-friendly meditation workshop. How dare I take resources from the children! My therapist is giving me tools because I literally can’t even tell when I have to PEE. The horror! I just went my entire life getting chronic UTIs! How dare I not be in pain! And I can barely afford any of it.

Interesting that when more women, queer folks, and black folks start to get help it’s “an over-diagnoses” problem. But go off.

100% me! When I was a kid, I took headphones with me everywhere so I could have loud music and listen to my songs over and over. It pissed my dad off lol and I’ve always loved concerts. But like? Groups of people talking or loud TVs make me want to rip my ears off?

I think some of you forgot that autistic people sometimes act strange and say things that are poorly worded and speak with incorrect tone and misunderstand or miss social cues because they are autistic

The tone thing is so real. When my assessor asked me “what would you change about yourself?” It was easy. “How I communicate.” Just a life of feeling trapped.
