whether you are a long-time follower or just the most casual passerby, you are always welcome to my blog at any time.

but who am i? let me present myself:

my name is mailyn. it is not my real name, of course – i know better than to divulge my actual name here – but it is what i go by, so please do not call me anything else.

i myself don't know how old i am. maybe i'm as old as the stars themselves, or as young as a newly sprouted flower. imagine what you think fits me best.

i am fictionkin – i.e., i identify as a (or in this case, five) fictional character on a spiritual level. if you have any questions about this, i will gladly answer them.

and if there's one thing i know for sure about myself, it's that i, with all my heart and soul, love english literature. (right now, my brain is kind of obsessed with the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald... don't pay too much attention to that.) i will almost always post about books, and occasionally some pieces i wrote myself, but don't expect too much from them as they look just like they've been collected from a leftover bin bag.

greek tragic myths actually have loopholes...

...and this is something i have thought again and again for a little while now, because its logic just didn't make sense.

let's take, for example, the myth of daedalus and icarus. you cannot tell me that, as overprotective daedalus is, it never crossed his mind that he and his son would escape during the night, thus avoiding the blazing sun and icarus's demise.

something similar would have happened with the danaids. they were fifty sisters, which is quite the number, and have apparently been stuck in tartarus for a considerable amount of time.

then why didn't it occur to them that they'd get out of this mess if, let's say five of them would cover the holes of their barrel with their hands, while the others continue filling it up. or even better, they'd follow the advice of our dear penelope and sew parts of their togas together, then put the fabric inside the barrel to stop it from running (though technically that would mean filling up the fabric, not the barrel... whatever. without having any examples, i know there are a lot of greek myths that work through that same kind of logic.)

i might be overthinking this, as i started writing this post at two in the morning. but seriously, some things in greek mythology just do not make any sense in the slightest.
