While there's no lack of strong, brilliant women in her life, Joy identifies her mother and daughter as two of the most influential among them.
"My mama because she has always been very gung ho. She knows what she wants, and she perseveres to get it. She has been a very devoted housewife and has always taught us that family always comes first. And to this day, I always prioritize my family.
And my daughter Alyssa. She's blessed but practical. She is beautiful and smart, yet humble. She's strong-willed yet mild-mannered. She's very opinionated yet soft-spoken. She's her own individual and speaks her mind. She influences me because of how kind-hearted she is. And you know the choice that she makes, she can be very firm about it and indecisive about things. She, and my family, continue to be my inspiration to do better and be a better mother to them."
When it comes to her Open Access BPO family, Joy shares that she doesn't really set out to intentionally inspire others. But she does maintain a family-focused approach to being a leader: warm, relatable, and approachable.
"I'm very transparent with my team. Very candid with them. f anything I choose to always be accountable and comfortable with the decisions I make for myself, for my family, for my team, and this organization.
I don't interact with them with the purpose of inspiring them. All I can do is share with them how I handle certain situations when I know they’re in a similar situation. But I don't think I've done anything intentional to inspire them.
I think more than anything, I choose to be relatable to them."
When asked about maintaining a gender-equal organization, she says that she's confident Open Access BPO isn't gender-biased when it comes to developing employees.
"For me, we're not in a position where there is inequality. I think in other countries or more traditional companies, you see men dominate the leadership roles.
But I don't think we're in a position to address it, since it's not a glaring issue in our company. Look at our leadership teams. There is a good mix of men and women leading our teams."
