“Let’s go team! Fight for your princess!”
steelypair
If there was one thing that struck a nerve with Adam, it’d be people trying to push shellfish on him, and those punks who rolled in from No Man’s Land trying to act big with stolen military hardware. Guy was probably some mercenary with the Medici. Could be with anyone in the city, and in Adam’s mind? That meant nothing good.
Walking over to the other, knowing the man was armed Adam hopped wearing the uniform of the Black Egrets would be enough to persuade the man to come with him peacefully. Adam whistled to get the man’s attention, putting his hand out to tell the man to stop Adam asked him, “What business do you have in the Canopy Kingdom, mercenary?” His voice was calm yet his annoyance was clear.
Brick really didn’t have time for these kinds of things. He was a busy guy. There were places that needed investigating, leads that needed following, some kind of meatloaf monster disguised as a nun that was apparently causing problems. He had a full plate, and here comes Buddy What’s-His-Name trying to load on some more.
The snaggletoothed grin of his ballistic mask flashed at the government worker, and the mercenary folded his arms in irritation. “I work here, same as you do. Why, am I under arrest for walking around in broad daylight, minding my own business? This place might be more of a dictatorship than I thought.”
“You are not being detained. I need to know who you work for. There are some unpleasant groups in this city.” Adam wouldn’t humor the dictatorship comment. He knew there were people who didn’t approve of the Kingdom especially after King Franz’s war.
Adam folded his arms in turn before continuing, “And if you do work for the people in that Tower.” He gestured towards a distant skyscraper with his head. “That’s when I, no we, will have a problem. Understand?” He needed to make it clear that the Medici held no sway over him. Sure he had heard stories about those who were likewise morally opposed to the Mafia, but Adam felt he was capable enough to confront some hired thug.
“I know all about the unpleasant groups in this city, believe me. According to some people, I bet I’m part of one.” He chuckled humourlessly. “All things considered, who I work for isn’t really a concern of yours. I go wherever the money is. Hell, end of the month I might end up working for you people.”
This man didn’t seem to be all that much of a threat. Sure, he was probably armed, but then, so was Brick. And the mercenary doubted that whoever this government worker was, he wasn’t on the same pay grade. “Listen, I have a lot of work to do. I’m sure it would be a great way to spend a lazy afternoon being interrogated by a guy who looks like he’d fly away in a stiff breeze, but I am in the business of being paid and business tanks when I take too long.”
“And I am in the business of keeping the people of Canopy Kingdom safe, and somebody like you working for the wrong people? That’s where people like me step in.” Adam stepped towards the mercenary. He was getting mad, he hadn’t drawn his gun yet, but he was getting damn near close. “And if you knew who I was you’d know it’d take more than a stiff breeze to take me out, and I am not some fresh faced kid who hasn’t seen what this world is really like. I could be your worst nightmare if lay so much as a finger on the innocent people of Canopy. Understand?” He leaned in to emphasize his point.
He chuckled. “I’m not going to lay a finger on anyone innocent. I’m just going after hooligans. Vigilantes, vandals, that sort of thing. For instance, apparently there’s some weird half-robot girl going around picking fights. I’m dealing with that. Zombie kid with a bone snake stuck through her? Dealing with it. As long as none of the civilians get in the way, we won’t have any problems at all.” Still not really buying the whole intimidation tactic. Probably because of the difference in armour… and armaments.
“Oh, well. This is embarrassing.” Adam remarked, rubbing his arm as he chuckled nervously. “It’s just, well you know, guy dressed like you armed to the teeth, usually up to no good, y'know?“
“Good to know you’re on the right side.“ Adam stuck out his hand, "Name’s Adam. Commander Kapowski to the Egrets. I hope there are no hard feelings.”
“Do you ever wonder if aliens are trying to cover up our existence?”

“I am Heavy Weapons Guy. What is name?” The Heavy ask the Egret standing in front of him.
Well, here was another man adding to the series of intimidating figures in Canopolis. People like this reminded Adam of how painfully average his height was. “It’s Kapowski, Commander Kapowski of the Crown Princess’s Black Egrets. May I ask your business with the Egrets?”
The giant Russian leaned in. “Heavy is here to kill Parasoul because she fired me from tiny Egrets.” He whispered softly so no one could hear him.
Well this is what you call a grade A problem. Adam removed the radio from his belt and spoke into it, “Egrets be on high alert. There is an assassin trying to take the life of Commander Parasoul. Repeat, the there us an assassin on the premise, block all exits and protect the Princess!” Adam knew he’d take a beating from this man, and Adam was ready to give one back.
Heavy then took the radio and crushed in in his bare hands, throwing the pieces to the ground. “First of all, I’ll shoot you. And second of all, I’m not assassin, I am mercenary.” The voice of the giant Russian was that of calmness and rage.
Adam chuckled, this was gonna hurt, but Canopy needed her princess. Adam drew his pistol as two helmets Egrets ran to his side. One with a automatic rifle, the other another pistol. All three aiming for the large man, Adam spoke once more, "If you cease now, you shall receive a fair trail. If you continue mercenary, we have a fine hole in the earth for you."

"I once had this weird dream where an elf was turning people into instruments with his magic violin. Weird."
“Ok hear me out, why is she called the Skullgirl? I mean they always have faces right, I guess Heartgirl just sounded dumb.”
“Well, it’s not a complex matter, really. ‘Skullgirl’ is a man-made term, after all. There’s no real record of the first Skullgirls calling themselves that.
“Now, just think about it. All the Skullgirls seem to fancy a skull motif, don’t they? Not to mention, they always command the dead– skeletons, especially. If she were to be titled ‘Heartgirl’, it would be made to seem as though she commanded the heart, something more associated with the living than the dead. It would be deceiving, I think.”
“Plus, yes, ‘Heartgirl’ sounds rather silly.”
“Never really thought about it that way. I just assumed they were always called that, makes sense though. And I do suppose that Heartgirl would imply something with the living. Or maybe a blood monster or something, like an ancient vampire.” Adam stopped talking with the realization that that was a fantastic idea for a movie. “Could you imagine that? Some vampire from before the Canopy Kingdom trying to take over? That’d be such a great story.”
Well that just hits too close to the home on the nail, doesn’t it?
“Ohoho! Yes, a good story, for sure. Just far-fetched enough to be fiction, but if you put a bit of foreign magick in there, people might just be convinced!” That’s how to play it, cool as a cucumber. “But it’s a good thing that nothing like that exists in real life, isn’t it?”
Time to get away from that topic, and fast. “But that isn’t exactly the matter of discussion, no? While the Skullgirl has been the ‘Skullgirl’ for quite a while, it’s still a name from recent history. Even my father remembered a time when there wasn’t a formal title for the Heart’s host– rather, they simply called her all manner of terrible things.
“I believe it was an essay or some gossip rag that coined the term…?”
This guy was acting weird when Adam brought up the idea of a blood monster. Really wanted to get away from that subject. Poor guy must've been scared of blood or something.
"I guess I was too young to really remember my first Skullgirl, I only remember everyone called her that." Adam scratched his chin as he tried to remember the name but gave up as it still escaped him.
"And after her was Nancy, Trinity bless her. I guess her wish did end up doing good in the end though. And then there's the new one lurking around. Kind of sad isn't it? A poor woman turned into a monster? Her wishes twisted to kill."
ask-parasoul
Adam wasn’t doing much, outside of trying to look busy. The Renoir Palace was mostly empty aside from some people cleaning or a stray member of the aristocracy, a nice change from the streets and the shady characters that called them home. Presently he was admiring the architecture of the palace, arms crossed behind his back. Adam was more or less relaxing in the early morning before the palace got busier. He could hear someone walking behind him. Adam turned around to greet who ever it was behind him.
As he turned his contented smile and relaxed posture was replaced at once with a salute and a far more serious expression.
“Commander Parasoul sir!” He almost shouted at her. Dropping the salute, but not his ‘at attention’ posture, waiting for her to speak.
“At ease.” she ordered. “ Adam i’ve known you for years, and nobody is really around; Can’t we be slightly more casual?” She blushed soon realizing that was unprofessional, however it was sincere.
Adam exhaled as his posture relaxed, his hands returning behind his back..
“Yes Commander, eh, Parasoul.” He wasn’t really sure how to proceed. He had come to discuss the reports of the Skullgirl, but the Princess didn’t seem interested in talking work at this hour.
“I have some reports from New Meridian, but those can wait until more Egrets are here. Is there something that you would like to discuss Princess?” Adam was a bit nervous talking to Parasoul without a plan. He always was. And the way he fidgeted was a dead give away, same reason he hated playing cards Adam was easier to read than a neon light.
The commander rested her hand on Adams knee. “Is there anything *you* want to discuss? You seem more like a bit more uneasy than the usual.” She was staring directly in his eyes, soon realizing how inappropriate that was. She scooted back cheeks turning slightly pink.
Adam shuffled back a little bit. “I uh, well, I eh,” He paused running his hand through his gray hair. He was sure that she was flirting with him now, and frankly he didn’t know how to respond. Kill a man in war? Fine, that was his job. Talking to somebody he was attracted to? He had to keep reminding himself to breathe.
“I uh, How are you doing?”
She chuckled. She had never had a relationship with anyone, being under the throne she lived a sheltered life. Being the commanding strong woman she was she decided to be totally blunt and take a step. “What is this? I’ve never seen you act this way talking with Molly, or during training.” She looked at her lap and inhaled sharply. “ I think I have feelings for you.” Think? So much for being blunt.
Adam locked up. He had no idea how to respond to that. His pale face turned as he searched for the words. “I uh, you know, I.” For all his stalling Adam couldn’t be eloquent and just ended up saying, “IfeelthesamePrincess”
Her eyes were those of a deer in headlights. This was a first, she always knew he had liked her but it felt so good to confirm her suspicions. However Parasoul had really had been alone her whole life, even from friends she was quite distanced. “Well… What now?” She said slowly returning her gaze to him. “ I suppose there isn’t exactly an course of action plan for this.” She chuckled nervously.
Adam looked around trying to think of something. But he was coming up blank, he shrugged after a minute of silence. In truth he never felt that way about anyone before. He scratched the back of his head before asking, “We could have a private meal?”
Parasou’s mood
“I don’t like Beowulf because I keep running into people who keep spamming j.HP and not utilizing his other abilities”
“Also because he’s an idiot with a lame story and guys don’t belong in a game called skullGIRL!!”
